Chapter 50: You Are Not A Very Good Liar, Beautiful
All Avelina had to do was run for the barrier once she had climbed through the gate. Opposite this world was the one she belonged in, waiting. She could possibly reach and grasp it.
It means...freedom... Avelina was fleetingly dazed.
The opportunity for freedom was right in her face, and all she had to do was grab it—to run with it!
However, why was she hesitant? She definitely does not want to stay here!
With each passing second, she loses every bit of this opportunity right within her grasp.
Why am I not moving? Why am I being reluctant? Avelina was starting to get annoyed with herself.
"No, no, no!" She vigorously shook her head to snap into her right mind.
"It’s not like I wanted to be here in the first place. I will do anything to leave!" She made up her mind.
Avelina grabbed onto the gate and climbed it skillfully with not much effort. She jumped down on the other side and breathed nervously.
She smiled faintly as she scanned the deserted road with not a single vampire moving about.
This is the chance that the heavens have laid out for you, Avelina. Don’t think of anything else! She shook off any convincing thoughts that may have been popping into her mind.
"This place is not for me. I have to go back to where I belong," she mumbled to herself.
Building up as much courage as possible, Avelina took her shoes off. Although she wasn’t exactly sure how far she had to run to get there, she grabbed her dress and began to run for the barrier.
Fifteen minutes... Twenty minutes... twenty-four minutes
Avelina finally came to a stop.
She couldn’t tell how far she had run because she didn’t look back for once, but she was sure that she had run far enough.
The soles of her feet were burning and aching badly. Not only that, but she was seriously out of breath. Her craving for water at that moment was like that of a hungry baby.
Avelina took deep breaths and lifted her head to glance at the sky.
"Draven," she muttered to herself. "Urgh! I am such an awful human being!"
She buried her face in her palms, starting to regret running off.
She made a deal with him, so how could she still do this? How would he feel when he realizes that she is gone? What if he finds her before she even gets to the barrier? Would he kill her?
Her body shivered at the thought.
"Avelina, what have you done?" she began to ridicule herself.
Her whole state of mind was emotionally shaken.
"I’m so stupid! Now, I have to run back again!" She slapped her forehead.
Escaping was both dangerous and daring. She was not even sure how far the barrier was, so it could have been noon before she’d possibly gotten there, which technically meant disaster.
"All my courage just flew out of the fucking window." The urge to weep overwhelmed her.
This is no time to cry! She slapped her cheeks and deeply exhaled.
Apart from this, she intended to return to the royal mansion and stay with Draven. She was going to keep the deal and be honest! No more running away!
Once the three months were over, she would secure her freedom and leave. Three months may seem like a lot, but she would grind through it.
Avelina smiled widely at herself and sat down on a stone at the side. She was too bone-weary and needed to at least regain half of her strength in order to be able to run back.
"Let’s never make impulsive decisions ever again," she muttered to herself while gently massaging her aching feet. ’
Three minutes plus passed, and Avelina finally stood up to her feet. She held onto her shoe, reluctant to wear it. It would definitely hurt a lot.
While she was contemplating whether or not to wear the shoe, a car abruptly drove past her and stopped.
The car was unfamiliar, as the only car she was no stranger to was Draven’s. This left her to realize instantly that it was not Draven. She heaved a deep sigh of relief.
Avelina watched as the door of the car opened. A figure stepped down, and she stared intently, trying to figure out who it was.
Her eyes flickered the second the figure began to approach, and in response, she began to take a step back. She could not exactly tell who the person was, as he was completely draped in black clothing. The only thing she was able to make out was his ice-blue eyes, a replication of the blue morning sky.
"Hello, beautiful," the unknown figure said.
From his narrowed eyes, Avelina could tell that he was smiling and that his voice was familiar too. She believed that she had heard it somewhere before, but the problem was, where?
Avelina thought seriously about it, and as though something had clicked in her brain, she widened her eyes.
"Edward!" She remembered him from the ceremony and the auction.
"You remember me!" Edward’s hearty laughter resounded. He opened the umbrella he held and sheltered himself from the sun, then went ahead to take off the veil that was covering his face.
Very sure that he was not intending to harm her, Avelina relaxed her tensed body and asked, "What do you want?"
Edward smiled at her.
"It’s nothing really. I just happened to pass by. What are you doing out here?" he inquired as he lowered his eyes to look at her bare, dirty feet.
"Oh, you are running away," he figured it out before Avelina could even respond.
Avelina vigorously waved her hands at him. "That is not true!"
"Huh?" Edward was confused.
He asked, "Then...what are you doing out here, barefoot with your shoes in hand?"
"Uh..." Avelina scratched the back of her neck as though it were itching. "I was just bored, so I came—"
Edward chuckled, interrupting her. "You are not a very good liar, beautiful."
