Chapter 412: THEN WHY?!!!

Chapter 412: THEN WHY?!!!

Avelian wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tightly and burying her face in his chest, nuzzling into him and resting in his comforting scent.

"I can’t...I cannot live without you, Draven. I cannot breathe." She spoke in a barely audible tone, sobbing uncontrollably.

Draven was silent. He could not seem to utter a word, overwhelmed by the fact that he never dreamed there’d be someone on this earth who would ever love him this much.

"Sunshine." He began to caress her hair. "Please go. Let him save you. Don’t die with me; it would be very selfish of me if I allowed you—" He profusely coughed a mouthful of blood.

"No...please...no more." The tears spilling from Avelina’s eyes smeared his face. ’I would die with you, anytime. I want to die with you because I feel alive with you."

"Without you, everything in me is gone. Everything is pointless; it becomes as though I no longer exist. Let me die with you. Allow me to be in heaven or hell with you, wherever it will be."

She kissed his lips, whispering, "My heart yearns to be with you, no matter where it is. I’d burn with you. I’d love to, because no matter what, our souls would always be together, even if it were to be in hell."

Draven took a deep breath and wrapped his arms around her.

"I am sorry for everything. I am sorry for every pain I’ve ever caused you. Everything is my fault, and I could only wish there was a chance for me to make life much better for you. If only you hadn’t met me, things would have been much different for you."

"Dra—"

"Shhhh." He shushed her up. "But then again, if we hadn’t met, I wouldn’t have known what love was or what happiness truly was. You made my life colorful. You fixed me and everything around me."

"You were my salvation, my love." He delivered a warm kiss on her head. "Let us be together again if there is a next life. Let our hearts skip a beat when we meet so we can know that we’ve found each other in the next life. A touch of our hands and an interlocking of our fingers would give us clues. It would be like a magnet, and nothing would be able to separate us."

Avelina chuckled softly, nodding her head. "You are right. Tell me, do you think we will be together in every universe?"

"Yes," Draven answered, cackling. "In every universe, Sunshine, you and I will be together, in every form. If heaven could hear me, I would pray for one more chance for the both of us. Just one. Let us live again...together, in a much happier and simpler, exhilarating life with the child we couldn’t protect."

"Happily...this time....around..."

"Yes, happily this time around... I love you, Draven."

"I love you, Avelina. Always...and forever..."

And with that, both drew their last breath. Their last breath, for a new life to come and possibly...be granted.

Lucifer, who stood staring at their lifeless bodies, sighed deeply.

"I did not want to witness two lovers...die. Rest in peace." He hit his chest, and with one long breath taken, he snapped his fingers and disappeared out of sight.

From outside the mansion, fireflies flew in out of nowhere, surrounding the two lifeless bodies. Why? No one could tell. Was it Lucifer who made it possible? Perhaps.

——

Pierre, who had caught up to Loui, gripped his hand, pulling him back.

"Loui!!" he screamed his name.

Loui, who couldn’t run anymore, breathed heavily, his eyes shut. Slowly, he turned around and faced him. "Pierre, what do you—"

As if it were a moment’s clarification, his soul and Pierre’s soul shook, causing the both of them to quickly look at each other.

"Don!" they exclaimed.

Apparently, they had all made a pact with Draven—one that would make it possible so that if he ever died, they would know instantly.

Pierre’s body shook, and he turned around, glancing in the direction they’d run from. "N-no... Don is not...dead...right?" he asked, and when he got no response, he turned around, snatching Loui by the collar. "Say something to me, Loui! Don is not dead, right? He is not, right?!"

But Loui didn’t give him a response.

Without haste, Pierre rushed off, running back to the royal mansion at a speed he’d never run before. Loui, as well, ran after him, wanting to confirm for himself.

They’d arrived at the royal mansion after an agonizing long few minutes. There were no guards at the gate, so they scurried inside and only came to a stop the second they came across Draven’s dead body hugging Avelina’s dead body.

Pierre was completely at a loss for words; he could only stand there and watch.

"No...no, no, no!" He covered his mouth, staggering back as tears began to build up in his pupils. He couldn’t cry out loud but could only sob silently, with tears profusely spilling from his eyes.

Loui, who was staring at the corpse, dropped to his knees, his head lowered.

"I’m...I’m..sorry..." he mumbled, beginning to cry.

He loved Draven; he cared for him, but... what could he have done? His hands shook, and he drew a deep breath, throwing his head back to stare at the ceiling.

"I’d thought...I’d thought things would work out somehow. and—"

"Loui..." Pierre muttered, turning his head to look at Loui.

Loui glanced at him, slowly getting up on his feet. "P-Pierre?"

"Why?" Pierre pulled out a gun from his pocket—the one he’d always had on himself. "Why did you do this? Are you happy now?" He aimed the gun at Pierre, a saddened smile evident on his face.

Loui slowly shook his head, also pulling his own gun out. "I don’t feel happy at all. I loved Don as much as you all did, and—"

"THEN WHY?!!!" Pierre shouted at him, beyond hurt. "Why did you do this to him? For your sister, you hid from us? Is that why?"
