Chapter 411: Let Me Die With You

"I was going to take you back with me, but dammit, how am I supposed to do that now that you are on the verge of dying? I can only wait for your soul, that is, if it’s being sent to me; if not, I doubt we will ever...meet again," Lucifer mumbled, averting his gaze with what one would call a saddened expression.

Draven didn’t say a word but only lay still, breathing as much as he could. Even if he was about to die, he was not entirely sad about it. He got his revenge, although not in the way he wanted, It was still something, and that was enough for him.

He drew a long, deep breath, ready to die, but that’s when a voice—that soothing voice he thought he never heard again, sounded.

"D-Draven..." It was Avelina. She was still holding on.

Lucifer turned his head to see her crawling, pulling herself all the way to where Draven was lying helplessly on the floor. "Oh, she’s still...alive. What a strong woman you are." He was genuinely impressed.

"Draven...D-Draven..."

"Avelina!" Draven’s lips trembled, and he reached out his hand for her, trying to find her.

Avelina crawled over to him, despite bleeding profusely, and extended her hand out to touch him. Draven’s arms were spread out, and the blood dripping from his wounded eyes had soaked up the white clothing that had been used to bind his eyes.

She moved over, laying in his arms and cuddling closer to him. She stared at his face and reached out her trembling fingers to touch his face.

"Draven...Draven, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry, I couldn’t do anything for you." Her tears were pouring onto his bloody facial skin.

A soft breath fled Draven’s noise, and his lips stretched into a relieved smile. "Your scent is still as comforting as ever. I thought I would never hear your voice again."

"It’s sad I cannot see you anymore, sunshine." His voice was broken as he lifted his hand to cup her face. "... But do not worry my love, I have not forgotten your face; I can’t so soon and never will."

Avelina dropped her forehead against his chest and shook uncontrollably, her sob heavy and non-stop. "Draven!" She grabbed onto his hand, which was cupping her cheek. "Do you feel it? You don’t have to see me. You just have to feel, my love. That is all." Her tears dropped onto his hand, and she snuggled in even closer, wanting to melt into him.

A chuckle from Draven sounded. "You are my sunshine. I never thought I’d be laughing or smiling before I died. But here I am, with you."

"Mhm Hm." Avelina nodded at him. "We’ll always be together. It doesn’t matter where it has to be."

Draven moved his hands across her face, trying to feel every inch of her facial structure. Even though his vision was clouded by nothing but darkness, he could still picture her in the midst of it all.

"You have lost so much weight. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry...I am really sorry that I could not protect you and our child like I promised. I tried, I really tried." One could tell he was crying from his tone.

"No, no, no." Avelina shook her head at him, sobbing profusely. "No, please don’t say that. Don’t say that to me, please. It is not true. It is not true at all. Nothing is your fault. You tried your best, and it is not your fault." She placed soft kisses on his forehead, her arms wrapping around him in a hug. "Do you feel better? You remember my kisses on your forehead, right? They always made you feel better. So, tell me, do you feel better? Please tell me that you do. Draven, please!"

"Avelina..." Draven spoke her name in the softest voice she’d ever heard anyone utter her name in the whole universe. It was almost like a heart-aching whisper.

Avelina lifted her head to look at his face.

"I want you...to do something for me," Draven said.

"What is it? I will...I’ll do anything for you." Avelina caressed his cheek, gravely weakened due to the huge loss of blood.

Draven smiled ever so gently and ran his fingers through her wet curls.

"I want you to leave through that door and exit the mansion. Don’t worry about your injury. That man over there will heal you before it can kill you. Everywhere is falling apart, and—"

"NO!" Avelina disagreed, shaking her head. "I cannot do that! How can you ask me to do that?"

"Avelina, listen to me. I don’t want you to die here with me. You have a lot of life ahead of you; do not waste it on me. Live and move on, okay? Have a family, and be happy. I want you to be." He tucked her behind her ear, his smile wide. "But... just know that whether in heaven or hell, I will always be with you, sunshine." His smile was cynical.

If only his eyes were still there, he’d love to peer into her beauty and her lovely hazel pearls one more time.

Avelina lay still, gazing at him in disbelief. Broken, hot tears were dripping from her eyes, falling onto his face.

"Draven, how can you say this to me? Why?" she asked. "I love you, and I cannot be without you. I cannot breathe when I’m not with you. I thought...I thought I could, but I realized I was too bound to you the second you left me outside that barrier. I desperately wanted to come back to you. You were my home, Dravan."

"Do you think that anyone could ever replace you? Do you think that anyone could ever love me like you did? Do you think that anyone would ever care for me like you did? Take care of me like you did? Protect me like you’ve done? Make my days wonderful like you’ve always done?"

She shook her head with a wide smile, her eyes crinkling into a curve. "No, there is nobody on this earth or in any other universe who could ever compare to you. Only you own my heart; no one else, my love. You are half my soul, so if you truly love me, don’t—don’t ask me to go, please. Let me stay with you. Let me die with you."
