Chapter 397: C-Child?
Chapter 397: C-Child?
Old Master Lenort took a deep breath.
"This ceremony will be on hold for now. I want all of you to return to your quarter, until further notice."
"But why?" Valentine asked. "Can’t we just—"
"Valentine!" Lumian glared at him. "Let’s go!" He stormed towards him and before Valentine could utter another word, he snatched him by his arm and dragged him out of the hall. Lestat followed suit with his wife.
Draven left with Avelina and so did Ryan, until it was just Lilith and Old Master Lenort stuck in the hall.
"I don’t like this!" Lilith scowled at him. "How can you—"
"I have to kill him!" Old master lenort declared. "He cannot be chosen, he will not rule. Not only watch. I will kill him for the sake of this country and have another heir chosen. I have to do it."
Lilith raised a brow at him. "And just how do you plan to do so?"
"One way or the other!" Old Master Lenort declared and began to storm out of the hall.
Lilith could only stare at his disappearing back, aware that everything was about to go downhill. Never had she glimpsed such yearning to kill within Old master lenort.
...
As soon as Draven shut the door, Avelina turned around to stare at him. "Draven!"
Draven took a deep breath, aware of what she was going to talk about.
"Avelina, I didn’t see this coming as well. If I knew this would happen, I would never have participated." He shook his head at her.
"T-then, what do we do right now?" Avelina bit into her lower lip. "You saw his face and his reaction. He will definitely kill you."
"Relax." Draven grabbed her shoulders. "It’s okay, calm down."
"I’m not going to let them kill me, because I will kill them before they do! I’ll pay them back for everything and my mother’s death!" He breathed, walking over to the table. "I didn’t want to react so soon and just slowly planned out my revenge. But since it’s come to this, I might as well start, don’t you think?" He glanced at Avelina.
Avelina’s heart was beating rapidly, not sure how to respond. Wasn’t it too risky? What if he loses his life in the midst of his revenge? What if something goes wrong? But then again, if he doesn’t act, they will kill him.
"Draven, why don’t we just leave this place?" She asked.
Draven turned to look at her. "And run?"
"You want to run?" He probed, his head tilted.
Avelina flickered her eyes, at a loss for words. Of course, she didn’t want to run, but this was too risky as well. She couldn’t seem to explain what it was, but the constant uneasiness she’d been feeling was suddenly spiraling out of control at that moment.
"Avelina, listen." Draven stood before her, his hands cupping her cheek. "If running was possible, maybe just maybe I would have resulted in that and saved some people that I could have saved. But you see, no matter where we run to, they will always find—"
His phone on the bed suddenly rang.
Draven glanced at the bed and picked it up. He looked at the screen to see that the caller was Mr Jean. Was there a problem? Why was he suddenly calling?
He answered.
"What is it?"
[What we spoke about last time, Your Highness, I think I might have a clue of what could possibly be going on with your wife]
"Huh?" Draven furrowed his brows. "What is it? Is she sick?"
[No, I don’t think so. And I also do not think it is an effect of being turned]
"Then, what is it?" Draven questioned.
[Can you have your wife do a pregnancy test?]
"Huh?" Draven was taken aback. "W-what do you mean? Pregnancy test?"
[Yes. It didn’t cross my mind the last time I spoke with you, but there is a ninety percent chance that she is with a child. It should be able to explain the constant vomiting and mood swings]
"But that’s not—"
[Your Highness, you spent your heat with her, didn’t you?]
"I...did," Draven responded.
[Then, have her run a pregnancy test]
Draven didn’t say a word but slowly turned his head to look at Avelina who was gazing at him with confusion-filled eyes.
"Draven...is everything okay?" Avelina asked.
"I’ll do as you say," Draven said to Mr Jean and hung up the call. He threw the phone on the bed and stared at Avelin, still trying to process the situation.
Avelina was getting antsy. She grabbed his hand, forcing him to look at her. "Draven, what is going on?"
Draven scratched his head and grabbed her shoulder, gently peering into her eyes.
"Sunshine, you know how you keep having mood swings and vomiting constantly...?"
Avelina nodded at him, biting her bottom lip in nervousness. "Is there a problem?"
"I think...I think you might be..." Draven breathed heavily.
Avelina cupped his cheek, a worried expression evident on her face. "Be what?"
"I think you might be with a child. You’re possibly pregnant," Draven responded, his gaze soft.
Avelina’s heart skipped a bit at those words and her hand cupping his cheek, dropped to her side. "C-child?"
Draven slowly nodded at her. "I’m sorry..."
"What are we going to do, Draven?" Avelina was starting to panic. "How are we going to deal with it in this horrible situation? What if I lose it? What if it gets—"
"Avelina!" Draven shook her, snapping her back to her senses. "Calm down, please! We are not sure yet, so until we confirm, please relax, okay?"
Avelina frantically nodded. "B-but what if I really am? What will we do? What if it gets hurt? What if they hurt...I’m not ready...for this...Draven. What if we can’t protect—"
"It’s okay!" Draven pulled her into a warm hug, wrapping his arms around her. He began to caress her hair. "You don’t have to worry. I’m here with you. If truly you are, you do not have to be scared. I’ll protect it, I really will, I promise. So calm down. I’m not going to make the same mistake twice, okay."
