Chapter 395: What Do You Think Will Happen?

Draven rubbed his temple, stressed out for reasons he couldn’t exactly tell. What the hell was going on with him? Why can’t he seem to stay calm?

Avelina could sense his distress due to the mating bond. She stared at him and suddenly stood up from her seat, wanting to go to him. But she had no way to do so, and could only stand and gaze with a concerned expression.

"Avelina, please sit down," Aurora tugged at her.

Even though she was reluctant, Avelina sat back down.

"These candles in front of you will light themselves in flame and whoever’s flames burn the strongest is the chosen one," They all gave a nod.

Mikhail stepped away.

The entire hall was silent as they watched, the majority betting open Ryan. Old Master Lenort didn’t seem worried, it was as though he was confident that it would either be Ryan or Lumian—they had the most potential out of all his sons.

The unknown man suddenly smirked, his golden eyes rising to look at old master Lenort. He didn’t say a word, but old master Lenort could feel someone’s intent gaze on him.

What seemed like an agonizing few seconds progressed before the pillar before Ryan lit up.

Ryan’s eyes widened immediately, his soul-shaking in relief. The fire was impressively big, more than they had even expected.

The crowd applauded, some holding a proud smile on their faces. Old Master Lenort and Mikhail exchanged glances and he cackled softly, very much certain that Ryan had been chosen.

The next flame burned, but this time it was on Lestat’s pillar. It wasn’t as high as expected, but it did seem a little bit impressive. Lumian took a deep breath, having lost hope.

For his younger brother’s flame to light up before his, meant he had no chance. But this also meant that Draven didn’t either. He sighed, shaking his head.

A few seconds and another pillar lit up in flames. It was Valentine’s pillar, shockingly burning closer to Ryan’s flame.

How?! Old Master Lenort was beyond shocked. How can that be possible? Valentine wasn’t married and the rule stated that one who wasn’t married was not eligible to participate, so why was his pillar burning? Was there some kind of mistake?

Valentine himself was left startled. "Why...is my pillar burning? Aren’t in—"

"You are not eligible!" Old master Lenort declared, obviously nettled. He was frowning deeply, unable to explain the scenario himself.

Valentine scoffed, averting his gaze. Why was the old man speaking as if he even wanted to be among the participants? He didn’t marry for a reason and was just merely shocked and puzzled.

He took a deep breath, sneaking a glance every now and then at Olive who would glare at him to focus in response.

Of course, the next pillar that lit up was Lumian’s pillar, and shocking to every single one of them, it burned way stronger than Ryan’s flames could ever.

This immediately caused Ryan’s soul to evaporate out of his body. He choked out a breath, running his eyes up and down Lumian.

"W-what the fuck is going on?" He questioned, turning his head to meet his father’s gaze. It was as if he was seeking an explanation.

Old Master Lenort’s jaw was on the floor. Why Lumian? Yes, he did believe in Lumian, but his highest bid was on Ryan!

Lilith rapidly blinked, shocked herself. Well, it wasn’t like she could complain, all three boys except Draven and Valentine were her biological children, so whoever gets chosen, she wouldn’t mind.

Although...she would have loved it more if it was Ryan, after all, he was her favorite.

Aurora on the other hand was just as startled. She didn’t expect it at all as just like everyone, she had expected it would be Ryan as well. Avelina on the other hand, was merely surprised, her gaze never leaving Draven.

The way everyone was thinking, it was as if Draven didn’t even exist. Well, it was not like Draven cared. He couldn’t really be bothered as he was not even one bit after the throne.

"What do you think will happen?" A voice suddenly rang in his ears, startling him. He quickly turned his head, but there was no one speaking to him.

Draven frowned, suddenly wondering if he was hallucinating. What the freak was going on? Since ever stepping onto the hall ground, he’s been having it rough, sweating out of unidentified terror and now this? Who the heck was it messing with him?

His gaze halted on the unknown man in a cloak, but the man wasn’t looking at him, however, he was staring at Old Master Lenort.

Draven pinched between his brows, taking a long deep breath to calm himself down. Someone was messing with him and he was sure of that. His suspicion lay with the cloaked—

A pair of arms were suddenly around him, cold and eerie. Draven gasped and stilled on his spot, the second he felt a jaw rest on his shoulder. "What do you think will happen...little brother? Will your pillar light up?"

It was that voice. Someone was behind him, someone he’d never seen before. But why wasn’t anyone wielded out? Aren’t they seeing the person behind him?

Draven swallowed hard and answered, "I don’t...know."

"Tsk, boring. I can’t seem to see why Father is obsessed with you. You’re average, hmmm." The figure clicked his tongue, shaking his head in disappointment.

Father? Who? Draven was confused. Was it old master Lenort? But the old man hates him, so how could he be obsessed with him? When had he ever shown even an ounce of obsession towards him?

He was utterly puzzled.

"Look at their faces, little brother." The voice spoke, guiding Draven’s attention towards Old Master Lenort and the likes of them who were giving him condemning looks. "Do you know what they are saying about you?"

"They say it is as expected. The crown would never choose a devil’s spawn." The figure laughed in amusement. "It’s been five minutes now, your pillar has not lit up. Does the crown really hate you? What do you think, little one?"
