Chapter 384: Do You Feel Sick?

"Sorry..." Avelina’s glaring look went soft, and she glanced at the part of his shoulder where she’d bit him. She spread gentle kisses on it and pulled back to look at him with a wide, apologetic smile.

"Much better?" Her large eyes batted rapidly in a flirty manner.

Draven’s expression darkened at the sight of this, and he abruptly lifted her from the table. He walked toward the bed and laid her down, his body hovering above hers.

"Take as much blood as you need. I will do my own thing in the meantime." He smirked at her, his palms cupping her cheek.

Avelina kissed his lips and pulled him closer to hug him. "I love you, Draven. I really do."

Draven pulled back to gaze at her, his eyes gentle. "I know you do. I love you more, sunshine."

[A month later]

"Don’t you think everywhere is too quiet, Draven?" Avelina, who lay on the bed with her hands supporting her lifted head, asked.

Draven glanced at her and began to stroke his jaw as though in thought. "You have a point. Everywhere is too quiet, it is making me a bit uneasy." He continued to write in the book spread out in front of him.

"Do you think something will go wrong?" Avelina asked, sitting up on the bed.

Draven was quiet for a few seconds before responding, "I’m not sure. But I do not think my father will cause any issues. Next, tomorrow is selection day, and there will be so many people around. My father isn’t so naive to do something horrible on a day such as that."

Avelina sighed. "Something about it still doesn’t sit right with me." She shook her head and climbed down from the bed.

She walked over to Draven, pushed his arms aside, and sat down on his lap. Draven tilted his head to glimpse her face. He asked, "Avelina, what are you doing?"

Avelina shrugged, smiling. She responded in a singy-songy voice, "Nothing."

"I just want to see what you are doing." She lowered her gaze at the book spread out on the table to see that he was doing nothing more than doodling her...

Avelina’s eyes flickered, and she slowly whipped her head to look at his face. Draven turned his head away, unwilling to meet her gaze.

"What...?" he asked.

Avelina stared at him and slowly chuckled.

"This is so pretty!" She returned her attention to the spread-out book, admiring the drawing. "All those while I was on the bed, you were—"

"I was a bit... bored, I suppose." Draven cackled softly, wrapping his arms around her to hug her warmly.

"So that was why you kept glancing at me every few seconds?" Avelina asked, still staring at the drawing.

Draven nodded and kissed her cheek before burying his face in her neck. "When this is all over and I have gotten what I want as well as made them pay, we will leave this place."

"Huh?" Avelina was taken aback by his sudden words. "We will...leave?"

"Yes." Draven nodded. "We can travel to another country you might like, away from this place and my family. I know you don’t like it here."

Avelina shook her head at him. "No, it’s okay. If you like it here, I don’t mind staying—"

"I don’t. Not even one bit." Drave tightened his embrace. "This place holds only bad memories and barely any good ones. It would make no sense for me to like it."

"You have a point." Avelina exhaled softly, melting into his arms. She stared at their reflection in the mirror and tilted her head to rest against Draven’s head. "I wonder who will be chosen. Ryan, Lumian, or perhaps Lestat."

"I don’t really care who it is. We won’t be here for long." Draven shrugged, kissing the mark on her neck. "I am only after what I want."

"But what if it turns out to be you?" Avelina’s face spread into a wide, amused, taunting smile. "Can you imagine the look that would appear on their faces?"

Draven shook his head. "That would make no sense, Sunshine. The crown hates me just as much as my family hates me." He chuckled and took a deep breath.

The smile vanished from Avelina’s face, and she lifted her hand, gently running her fingers through his dark hair.

"It doesn’t matter if—" She quickly covered her mouth, having felt everything she ate that night rush to her throat. Her eyes flickered rapidly, and she began to pat her chest, wanting to digest it and keep it from running up to her throat again.

Draven, who noticed, looked at her with a confused and concerned expression. "Avelina, are you okay?"

Avelina nodded her head, her lashes blinking frantically. "Y-yes. I just feel like—" Quickly, she broke out of Draven’s grip and hurried off into the bathroom. Draven turned his head and stood up, rushing after her.

Avelina went on her knees near the toilet and began to vomit.

"Avelina, are you okay? What’s wrong?" Draven squatted down beside her and gently started to pat her back, hoping to help. "Did you eat something bad? Do you feel sick?"

Avelina pulled back and sat down on the marble floor, her back pressed against the cold wall. She threw her head back with her eyes shut.

"Not sick. I think I might have eaten something I don’t like, or maybe it was the desserts I consumed earlier," she replied, laughing at herself.

Draven sighed, shaking his head. "I did tell you to take it easy, but you wouldn’t listen to me. Do you feel any better?"

"Mhm." Avelina nodded. "I feel okay now."

"Good. Come here." Draven grabbed her hands and pulled her up to her feet. He flushed the toilet and walked her to the sink to wash her mouth.

"Maybe you should let go of deserts for a while," he suggested.

Avelina whipped her head back and glared at him. "Impossible!"

"Avelina—"

"I like them, Draven!" Avelina interjected. "I will eat less of it, so do not worry. Tsk!" She clicked her tongue, looking as though she could bite him if he said any more of such words.

Draven gazed at her and abruptly laughed softly, shaking his head. "As long as you do not fall sick." He ruffled her hair and lifted her into his arms to leave the bathroom.
