Chapter 383: This Hurts...Avelina
Perhaps soon enough, Avelina would find a way to see her and bring her away from her abusive father. However, the issue was whether her mother would even agree to leave.
"Urgh!" Avelina groaned, slapping the book onto her face. She breathed softly and at the sudden sound of the door opening, she removed the book from her face to watch Draven walk in.
He held a pessimistic look and distant eyes that seemed as though he was in deep thought.
Avelina furrowed her brows, wondering what could have happened. Could something have happened to Valentine?
She instantly became worried. "Draven..." Her eyes followed him as he walked over to stand before her. "Is...everything okay?"
Draven was silent for a few moments before sitting at the edge of the table. "I’m not...sure."
"Huh? What happened? What do you mean?" Avelina dropped the book and stared at him, expecting a response from him.
Draven glanced at her and pinched between his brows. "Valentine...I think he is hiding something from me."
Avelina was a bit taken aback. "He’s hiding something from you?"
"Mhm." Draven nodded. "I can feel it." He sighed, folding his arms. "It feels like something is wrong with him, but he doesn’t want to tell me. He’s become so pale and weak and I can’t really figure out what the issue is."
"Do you think he is sick?" Avelina inquired.
"Sick?" Draven looked at her. "We can’t get sick, Sunshine. Vampires don’t suffer from sickness and I doubt you will, now that you have been turned."
"I know something is wrong with him, but I’m just having a hard time figuring out what it is. I have also asked him a few times, but he isn’t willing to tell me. He just says that everything is fine."
Avelina stared at him for a few long seconds and averted her gaze to her hands. She said, "Valentine really loves you a lot and I think he appreciates you more than he’d ever done anyone. What I’m trying to say is that if something is really wrong like you said, perhaps, he is just not ready to tell you yet."
"You think so?" Draven asked.
Avelina nodded. "Yes. I think he might just tell you when he is ready." She smiled at him, hoping her words would at least be able to put him at ease.
"I see..." Draven ran his fingers through his hair, sighing. "I just wish he would just tell me. If it’s something out of his control, I might just be able to help."
"I’m sure that if it’s something out of his control, you would be the first person he comes to." Avelina chuckled and proceeded to flip to the next page of the book.
But a startled gasp fled her nose when she was suddenly lifted from the chair and pushed down against the table.
Draven, who was above her, pinned her hands above her head, his gaze, slightly burning.
Avelina flickered her lashes when she’d processed what had just happened and lifted her eyes to meet his gaze. "Draven, w-what are you doing?" she asked, stuttering.
Draven leaned in, till his body was pressed against hers and whispered into her ears, "I don’t know. Maybe...we can find out?"
Avelina’s eyes blew wide open and she threw her head back the second he roamed his hand to the back of her head and tangled his fingers in her hair.
"You smell so good, I want to hold you all the time." Draven pressed his lips against hers, kissing her roughly and needily.
Avelina tightly closed her eyes, shutting her hands that were held down by him. She breathed heavily the moment he gave her space to breathe and coughed a bit.
"I didn’t think your heat was this bad!" she said, taking a long deep breath. "Makes me realize that if I wasn’t here, you would be doing this with another—"
"Don’t think about that. It would never be like this with another woman," Draven interjected, cupping her flushed cheek in his large palm. He stroked her hair and leaned in to kiss her exposed shoulder and bury his face in her neck.
His free hand slipped under her shirt and began to roam all over her body. Avelina who was locked in his hold, writhed under him, her eyes heavily shut and her teeth biting onto her lower lip.
"Draven..." she managed to mumble his name.
"Hm? What is it?" Draven asked.
"Blood," Avelina said. "I need...I really crave blood."
Draven halted what he was doing and quickly whipped his head up to look at her flushed messed-up face.
"Now? Right now?" He sounded disappointed.
Avelina with an apologetic expression, nodded. "Please..."
Draven gazed at her for a few moments and suddenly sighed. He clicked his tongue and unbuttoned his shirt, pulling it aside a bit.
"Go ahead." He pointed at his neck and lifted her into a sitting position on the table. He spread her legs and fixed himself in between her, his body slightly hunched, so she could reach his neck much better.
Avelina stared into his eyes, her elongated fangs pressing against her lips. "You don’t mind, right?"
"No." Draven shrugged. "We can always continue later."
Avelina circled his shoulder with her arms and slowly pierced into the skin of his neck, drinking his blood.
Draven stared at his reflection in the mirror with a bored expression, a bit annoyed by the issue that got in his way. Suddenly hit by a thought, he couldn’t help but ask, "Sunshine, are you sure you don’t need me to supply blood for you?"
Avelina’s expression darkened at his question and in spite, she intentionally bit his shoulder, her scarlet eyes glaring at him.
"Ouch!" Draven hissed, his forehead wrinkling. "W-what was that for? I only asked a question."
Avelina pulled back to stare at him with bloody lips.
"I told you I only need your blood! I don’t need some filthy...blood..."
"What’s the difference? They’re all the same." Draven rubbed his shoulder where she’d bit him. "This hurts, Avelina..."
