Chapter 346: Where Is Your Wife?
Chapter 346: Where Is Your Wife?
Annette would have to figure out a way—a way to help Avelina escape from the house. And she would make sure Avelina never came back again. Not as long as they were still living with Mr. Hamilton.
Her grip on the tray tightened, and she proceeded downstairs, making her way towards the kitchen. She dropped the dishes and returned to the living room to hand the key over to Mr. Hamilton.
"Did she eat?" Mr. Hamilton questioned.
Annette nodded. "Yes, she did."
Mr. Hamilton smirked, but it was barely perceptible. "Good. Very good."
Annette turned around to leave, but that was when it suddenly struck her. Good?
Why would Mr. Hamilton say good? He doesn’t care about Avelina, so what was the reason? She couldn’t figure it out, but she knew those words were causing this feeling of uneasiness to arise within her.
Annette let out a deep breath and walked away, leaving the living room.
...
Avelina stared at the ceiling of the room with weary eyes. She could not tell what it was, but she was suddenly feeling quite drowsy and exhausted. This sense of sleepiness was suddenly overwhelming her.
Why? She literally just had a nap an hour ago.
Avelina took a deep breath and shut her eyes, turning to lay on her side. It wouldn’t hurt to have another sleep, would it? Perhaps she would feel much better by the next morning.
—
Now it’s been two days since Avelina went back to her home. Draven had been trying to reach her, but he hadn’t been successful. He’d tried to call her lots of times, but no one had picked up, not even Avelina herself.
He was starting to wonder if she was okay. Has something happened? What could it be? If something was wrong, she would have called him, right?
Draven buried his face in his palm, completely restless.
Today was the third day and he would try to call again. Perhaps he might just be able to get to her.
He reached for his phone on the table and dialed Avelina’s number. It rang as usual, but no one picked it up.
He tried over and over again, but no one picked up yet again. This caused a scowl to appear on Draven’s face.
Just what the heck was going on? He might just lose it at this point! He had become too worried, not to mention this feeling of anxiety overwhelming him.
Draven slipped into his shirt and buttoned it up. He left the room and proceeded to the general pavilion, where the family breakfast was taking place.
As he took his seat beside Lumian, everyone looked at him in confusion, wondering what exactly was going on. Where was Avelina? Why wasn’t she with him? They were literally inseparable, and anywhere one saw Draven, they would see Avelina. Could she possibly be sick?
The first to ask was Old Master Lenort. "Where is your wife? Is she sick?"
Draven adjusted the napkin around his neck and responded, "No."
"Then where is she?" Old Master Lenort pressed.
Draven shrugged. "I’d rather not talk about it, father. It is not a concern of yours."
Old Master Lenort looked at him with narrowed eyes and cleared his throat.
"Bon appetit," he said, digging into his food with a cup of tea.
Valentine glimpsed Draven with the edge of his eyes, and a grimace emerged on his face.
"Asshole," he muttered under his breath, still aggravated.
Of course, Draven heard it. He glanced over at Valentine with a crumpled face, but he didn’t say a word.
Aurora, who was watching the both of them furrowed her brows, starting to feel like something was off. If Avelina was sick, surely Draven would have simply told his father instead of answering the way he did.
What was going on? Did something happen to Avelina? She was deeply worried and concerned.
——
3:55 a.m. the next morning.
Avelina had finally awoken from her three days of sleep. She looked around the room and glanced at the clock.
"Three a.m?" She frowned, wondering how she had slept that long.
Last she remembered she’d slept around noon, so how was it already three in the morning? Quickly, she snatched Draven’s coat and shoved her hand into the pocket. She grabbed her phone and turned it on.
Her eyes broadened the moment she glimpsed the date, and she quickly jolted out of bed.
How? From what she was seeing, it’d already been three days since she returned to her family. But how? Did she sleep for three days? That was impossible!
She frantically shook her head and went through her contact list. There she saw the hundreds of missed calls that had come from Draven.
No doubt about it, she’d slept for three days straight!
But how? What happened? Was she drugged? But who would drug her? Surely not her—
Avelina’s eyes broadened, and she came to an immediate standstill.
Her father! It had to be him! There was no way she could have possibly slept for three days without being drugged.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she took a step back, breathing heavily and trying to calm her nerves. Her instincts were once again beginning to scream at her to run—to find a way and leave that house immediately.
It was much more intense at that moment, and she could feel that something was going to happen if she stayed any longer.
Quickly, she rushed to the door and attempted to open it, but just like she had expected, it was still locked. Her stomach rumbled, and she wrapped her arms around herself. Not only was she hungry, but she was feeling quite weary. She needed water so badly as well.
But all that had to wait. First of all, she needed to find a way to escape from that house without her father knowing. The latter comes later.
Avelina looked around her, and her gaze halted at the window. She glanced at the bedsheet on the bed and the closet in her room. Perhaps if she used any longer material for a rope, she might just be able to leave the room through the window and run as far as she could.
