A Game Of Chess With A Vampire
Chapter 337: Freedom…

Chapter 337: Freedom...

Avelina painfully smiled at him and walked past him to the closest to pack her things.

Draven turned around and stared at her with widened eyes, lost in his own thoughts—in the bizarre emotions surging through him. He wanted to say a lot—to say so much more to her, to make her understand, but he couldn’t seem to get a word out.

He’d never been in such an emotional situation before and had absolutely no idea how to handle it. He was at a complete loss for words and could not seem to form even a single proper sentence to utter.

He swallowed hard and took continuous, deep breaths to calm himself down.

"Avelina—" He tried to say something, but Avelina cut him off, unwilling to hear him out.

"Draven, please take me home. I’m begging you," she glanced at him with pleading teary eyes. "I am tired. Please."

It was clear to him—it was clear to Draven, that no matter what he’d said, no matter the thousands of explanations he may give, he would never be able to save the situation or reverse what had happened. She’d made up her mind. it was clear in her eyes and tone.

"I will be waiting for you outside," he said, walking to the door.

Never would he have thought that he would wake up to such a thing. This was not how it was supposed to be. This was not how they were meant to part ways. He was going to treat her to a lot of things she loved and make her really happy before he parted ways with her.

But in the end, the opposite occurred before he’d even gotten the chance to plan things out. To at least send her home while imprinting a smile on her face—a happy one.

He closed the door behind him.

As soon as he was gone, Avelina broke down in tears, clutching her heart and sobbing profusely. Within her, she’d wished he had stopped, said something to her, explained, and asked her not to leave. She would have changed her mind—she knew she would. After all, she loved him deeply, beyond what words could explain.

...

Opening the door to his room, Draven instantly lost his composure at the sight of Amélie, who was still on the bed.

"Are you stupid, or do you not know that you should be gone by now?" he growled at her, his fangs elongating in sudden anger.

"Get. out!" he ordered, a deadly, chilly aura emanating from him. "If I open my eyes and you are still here, you won’t have the choice to leave anymore!"

Amélie, frightened to the bones, hurried down from the bed and ran out of the room, her body shivering in fear. As soon as she was out, Draven slammed the door shut, breaking the hinge unintentionally.

He furiously began to punch the wall, trying to release that anger and that bizarre surge of emotion that he was suddenly feeling within himself. They were overwhelming and unendurable, he wanted them gone and to end.

He breathed heavily, and only when his knuckle began to plead quite a lot did he stop and take a step back. He stared at the wall that was tainted with his blood and turned around, walking to the bathroom to take his shower.

However, before he did, he glanced over at a well-wrapped frame resting properly beside the white desk in his room. He approached it, picked it up, and unwrapped it.

It was the portrait of Avelina that he had been painting. He’d finished it that day and brought it back with him. He wanted to give it to Avelina, but he just never got the chance to.

And now, she is leaving.

A soft sigh fled his nose, and he kept it on the desk, then left for the bathroom.

Draven changed into a new set of clothing and exited with the portrait to meet Avelina, waiting for him outside. She was truly serious about leaving.

Was this morning the breaking point for her? The point where she knew she no longer wanted to stay with him?

Was this love? He cannot seem to understand what it was like or what it felt like. If he fell in love, would he be the same? Would he feel indescribably hurt if he were in Avelina’s shoes?

The thought of it caused him to frown, and he felt this sense of irritation ripple through him. He needn’t be told because even he could realize how he would have potentially felt if he were in her shoes.

Just seeing her alone with Edward often made him sense this bizarre feeling within him. If he was correct, it was a sense of jealousy and vexation.

Jealousy...huh? Draven combed through his hair with his fingers and unlocked the car. He tried to help her into the car, but Avelina got in on her own, as well as locked the seat belt by herself.

He had nothing to say but could only walk over to the driver’s seat and sit down. He started the car engine and drove off onto the road. Santino was not around, so he had no idea of any of this.

The whole ride was in complete silence, and it took about an hour plus a few minutes before they finally made it to the barrier.

Avelina raised her head, gazing into nothingness. Where was the barrier? She could not see anything at all. Wasn’t there supposed to be some sort of gate?

But come to think of it, on that day she had accidentally stepped through the barrier, she hadn’t seen anything either. All she knew was that she had crossed paths with a vampire, and next, she was over to the other side, unable to step back.

Could the barrier possibly be invisible to the eyes? At least for humans like her?

"We are here," Draven said, getting down from the car.

He slammed the door shut and moved over to the other side to open the door for her. Avelina stepped down and took a long, deep breath.

Freedom...
