Chapter 327: Did You Break It?
Chapter 327: Did You Break It?
Avelina continued,
"Did you know how manly and cool you were back there?" She spoke with her arms akimbo. "You literally killed those twelve men with ease, and oh my heavens, you scared the audience. Even me too. I can swear that even your father did not see that coming!"
She shook her head.
Draven tilted his head and watched her with great intent, his lips subconsciously curling into a soft smile.
"And you are telling me you don’t think it was impressive?" Avelina groused. "I adored you back there, silly! You were beyond strong." She flexed her little muscle, hitting it with her left hand. "I felt proud to be married! Did you see Ryan?"
She looked at him with a questioning gaze. "He was scared to the bones. Oh, I wouldn’t be surprised if he pissed his pants. Everyone already foresaw his death, and I was waiting for it to come, but then your father interfered. Urgh!"
She puckered her lips, her expression contorting into one of annoyance
Draven abruptly broke into laughter, and unable to contain himself anymore, he pounced on her, pushing her down into the bed. He buried his face in her neck, resting peacefully in her calming scent.
"You are so adorable, do you know?"
Avelina flickered her lashes as she blinked. "Me? Adorable? Why do you say so?"
"I don’t know." Draven breathed in. "You are just very lovely to me. I love how you smile, Avelina, and I like your face. It’s cute, and I want to cup your cheeks in my palms and squeeze them. I can’t get enough of you, do you understand?"
He took a long, deep breath and pulled back to look at her face.
Avelina was dormant and quiet. She was simply gazing at him, but Draven could tell that her eyes alone were saying so many words. She must probably want to ask again why he wouldn’t let her stay with him.
He should honestly say no more, because the more he spoke, the more he tortured and hurt her.
A cynical smile emerged on his face. "I know what you want to ask, Avelina, but you really cannot stay with me."
"Not with what my father has done. I could have failed to protect you back there, and I cannot imagine what would have happened—"
"I understand," Avelina interrupted him, smiling pessimistically. "I will not force you to allow me to be with you, nor do I want to burden you any longer."
"No! You do not burden me at all." Draven shook his head, gripping tightly onto her hands. "I love being with you, and if it were possible, I’d love for you to stay with me, but right now, you can’t."
"You know, perhaps when I am done dealing with everything and make sure you will no longer be in danger, I will come back for you. I would come and get you, and maybe then we would be together, just like you want. What do you say?" He gazed at her with expectant eyes, anticipating her response.
But no reply ever came from Avelina. She softly chuckled and let out a low breath. "I am glad that you are fine, Draven."
Draven frowned. "You didn’t answer my question."
"Is there a need to—"
A knock came at the door. "Young master, are you awake?" Santino’s voice sounded.
Draven glanced at the door. He responded, "Yes. Is there a problem?"
"Breakfast is about to be served at the pavilion. His majesty awaits," Santino reported.
Draven’s expression darkened, and a distasteful glint sparked in his eyes. He looked at Avelina.
"Would you like to come with me?" He was smiling in a way Avelina had never seen him do before. It was as though he was skimming something up in his head. She nodded, agreeing to leave with him.
Draven patted her head. "Then have your bath. I will be in the hot spring. When I return, we will leave."
Avelina watched him exit the room. She sadly lowered her eyes, smiling at herself, unwilling to feel too sad. It was okay. She had accepted he would never let her stay with him, but still, it hurt and infuriated her each time she pondered about it.
A deep, long breath exited from her nose and she shifted to the edge of the bed. She waited for Thalia and Camilla and as soon as they arrived, they helped her into the bathroom and gave her a nice warm bath.
They dressed her up in a light blue dress, stopping at floor length in order to cover her cast. Then they went ahead to do her hair up into a nice single braid, just as she wanted. Once they were done, they left the room, leaving her to herself.
Avelina sat on the bed and patiently waited. It took a few minutes before Draven opened the door and walked in. He was clad in a simple shirt and nice slacks, completely covering his bandages.
His hair, as usual, was rolled up into a neat man bun.
Avelina smiled at him.
"How do you feel?" Draven squatted in front of her, grabbing hold of her feet. "What happened to your ankle? Did you break it?"
Avelina shook her head at him. "No, I dislocated it. But it feels much better now. It doesn’t hurt too much anymore. Mr. Jean said I will be fine by tomorrow or tonight."
Draven peered at her leg and raised his head to look into her eyes. "I hate seeing you get hurt."
He stood up, and before Avelina could fully process his words, he lifted her into his arms and began to walk towards the door. Avelina wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head against his chest.
They arrived at the general pavilion, and Draven sat her down. He took a seat beside her and raised his hand, patting her head.
Valentine smiled warmly at the sight of him, relieved that he was perfectly fine. He’d been so worried that he couldn’t even get a wink of sleep. Lumian also seemed to hold a relieved look, but he didn’t make it too obvious in order not to incur their father’s suspicion.
