Chapter 326: Because You Are Draven
Chapter 326: Because You Are Draven
Valentine sat Avelina down on the bed and smiled at her.
"I will come and visit when he wakes up." He walked to the door, but before he left, he said, "Take care of him."
"Mhm!" Avelina nodded and watched as he shut the door.
She exhaled and diverted her attention to Draven. She crawled closer to him, making sure not to hurt her ankle. In her arms, she pulled him in, allowing his head to rest on her lap. Then, with a soft smile hanging on her lips, she stared at his face, exhaling in relief.
You’d never realize how beautiful you look when you sleep. You look...peaceful, gentle as always, and...like an angel, perhaps. She chuckled softly to herself as she thought.
Avelina began to caress his hair, suddenly beginning to reminisce about the fight with a dazed expression.
He’d told her he was stronger than she would ever expect and indeed, he was truly strong. He was beyond strong—much more than she’d anticipated. He lived up to his words.
Regardless of his family playing dirty, he still won fair and square. He killed all those twelve strong royal guards and still managed to get rid of the butler despite being poisoned, which was unfair.
But even though he was poisoned, he didn’t stop. He still fought his way, wanting to win as the fight had stated, but of course, Old Master Lenort Interfered, hurting him. Yes, she was affected by the stop in time, but she didn’t need to be told to realize what had happened in that span of time.
Before the stop in time, Draven only had the injury, which was caused by Aldéric. The other brutal wound was from Old Master Lenort, and she could not help but curse him.
If Draven were in Ryan’s shoes, would he have stopped time for his sake? Of course, she already knew the answer to it. Ryan was his precious son, while Draven was nothing more than an abomination to him. A germ that needed to be killed and washed off the face of the earth.
Hmph! The asshole Ryan issued the duel and still needed his daddy to save him in the end.
Avelina felt amused—too disgustingly amused that she could not even bring herself to laugh.
She cupped Draven’s cheeks with her palm and stared intently at his face. A smile crept onto her lips.
"You were strong. You are strong, Draven." She leaned in, placing a soft kiss against his pale lips. She lingered for a moment before moving to kiss his forehead tenderly.
He’d protected her—he always had done so. He had never broken that promise to her. All the more reason why she cannot bring herself to leave him. She loved him and would do anything to be with him. She would give up everything for him—she knew so at that moment.
Just like that, Avelina fell asleep, overlooking the fact that her muscles were going to hurt the next time she woke up. She was embracing him, and she loved it that way.
...
Draven could hear the sound of someone’s heavy breathing beside him. His body was too warm, thus giving him the idea that he was in someone’s embrace.
A deep breath fled his nose, and he gradually blinked his eyes open. He stared at the ceiling for a few seconds, and as though the sudden recollection of what had happened the previous night clicked in his mind, he burst out of Avelina’s embrace, flipping her over on the bed.
He looked at her, his hands pressing down on the bed on either side of her head. Relief washed over him at the realization that it was just her and no one else. He had no idea what had happened after he went unconscious, thus, he assumed his father might have done something to him.
Avelina blinked her large eyes open and gazed at him before she slowly smiled. "You’re awake..." Her tone was gentle and filled with so much relief.
Even though she’d been told he would be alright, she had worried all night, wondering if he would really be fine.
Draven stared at her for a few long seconds and tenderly began to stroke her hair, his eyes never leaving hers. He slipped his arm under her neck and propelled her up, pulling her into a warm, tight hug.
"I’m sorry for letting him hurt you," he apologized, gently combing his fingers through her curls.
Avelina took a soft breath and wrapped her arms around him, responding to his embrace.
"I am not hurt, Draven. You don’t have to worry."
Draven shook his head at her. "No, you are hurt. Look at your neck." His grip on her tightened.
Avelina chuckled.
"It’s really okay. Mr. Jean did give me a healing elixir, so I will be just fine by tomorrow or possibly by this evening. You really don’t have to worry."
Draven pulled back from the hug. He looked at her face for a moment and slipped the strands of her hair behind her ear.
"I thought...I died," he said.
Avelina frowned at him and lifted her hand, sending a playful flick to his forehead. "That will never happen."
"Why do you think so?" Draven tilted his head, asking.
Avelina shrugged. "Because you are Draven. That alone is the reason why it will never be possible—at least not now. You are strong. Very strong!" She smiled charmingly at him, a bit of her gums exposed.
"Really?" Draven raised a brow at her. "I did say I would show you I was strong, but I do not think I put on quite enough of the show to impress you. Eh, I kind of messed up, I suppose."
Avelina peered at him with a contorted expression and a dropped jaw. "Are you kidding me?" She hit his shoulder and quickly stood up from the bed, not minding that her ankle was still hurting a bit, but not so much that she couldn’t stand for a few moments.
