Chapter 31: It’s Simple!

Chapter 31: It’s Simple!

Avelina’s brows wrinkled as she proceeded to speak, but before she could, someone grabbed her abruptly and pulled her away. She turned her head, and her eyes met with those reddish orbs filled with annoyance.

"D-Draven..." Her heart skipped a beat, unable to grasp what the problem was.

Edward, on the other hand, crumpled his face. "What is the meaning of this, Your Highness?"

Draven frankly replied, "I like to have a dance with my wife."

"But the dance isn’t over yet! This is quite rude of you, your highness," Edward retorted.

"I don’t care! She is my wife, and I want to have a dance with her," Draven declared with no expression.

"But you cannot do tha—"

"You don’t tell me what to do, Blondie!" Draven scowled and looked at Avelina. "Shall we?"

Avelina fluttered her eyes and nodded her head. "Yes."

Old Master Lenort watched from the high platform, his brow arched in amusement.

On the right corner of the hall, Loui, Olive, and Lucien watched the drama with deep interest.

"This is more interesting than I expected," Olive said.

Loui nodded his head, concurring. "I agree. Two vampires arguing over a mere human is a sight to behold. Our boss is unpredictable, hahaha."

The music started, and Draven and Avelina stepped onto the dance floor.

Draven gently laid his right hand on her back and interlocked his free hand with hers. They began to move in nearly perfect synchronization, their bodies swirling and twirling in time with the music.

Avelina moved with as much grace as she could. Her moves were a bit fluid and effortless, while Draven’s movements were more controlled, with the utmost supernatural precision.

As they danced, their eyes met, and Avelina felt a chill run down her spine. The way he stared at her, she could feel his eyes penetrating her soul.

"Do they frighten you?" Draven suddenly asked.

"Huh?" Avelina was confused.

"My eyes, do they frighten you? You look scared," Draven said, his expression a bit cynical.

Avelina shook her head and replied, "No. It’s not like that."

Draven breathed a soft sigh and asked no further questions.

As the music continued, Avelina found herself swept off her feet as Draven led her in a series of dips and spins, his strong arms supporting her every move.

The melody of the music was hauntingly beautiful, with a mix of strings and woodwinds that created a romantic, dreamy atmosphere.

Draven’s eyes, behind his glasses, stared intently at Avelina. It sparkled a bit, and as the final note of the music faded away, he and Avelina finally came to a stop.

They turned to Old Master Lenort and slightly bowed to him, then returned to their respective seats.

Old Master Lenort let out a deep breath and stood up from his chair. He offered a delightful smile to his guest and rested his hands behind his back.

"I am honored to have you all here," he said. "Today, we will be celebrating my third son and daughter-in-law-to-be. As you all are aware, never in our kind have a human and a vampire tied the knot. It is a taboo and a disgrace to our kind!"

The crowd glanced at each other, able to glimpse where this was going.

"My son here—" Old Master Lenort pointed at Draven. "—has decided to be the first to do it. He has disregarded our beliefs and the fact that we can never mix with humans!"

He paused for a moment.

"But! Who am I to say no to him? I may be the king, but I cannot stop him from marrying who he wants to, so... the celebration will go on."

Old Master Lenort smiled, his gray eyes filled with unknown intent.

He ran his fingers through his gray hair and eyed Draven, who was seated with his balled fist lazily supporting his tilted head.

"I’m sure you are all aware of how this ceremony works. I cannot simply acknowledge her that easily, so she will be tested first."

"As vampires, we desire strong partners, whether male or female, so she will have to prove herself worthy of being my daughter-in-law and a part of the royal family. I do not condone weaklings," he announced.

His smile widened a bit, and he spread his hands.

"How exactly will this be done?" he asked and proceeded to answer the question himself. "It’s simple! She will duel with my first daughter-in-law, Lady Natasha."

Ryan immediately frowned, unsure of what his father was planning.

He stood up from his seat. "I have a question, father."

Old Master Lenort looked at him with his brow raised. "And what question is that?"

"How will she duel with my wife? I can’t wrap my head around it." Ryan spoke with his brows creased in confusion.

"It’s simple!"

Old Master Lenort smiled and glanced at his guests.

"Of course, she is not expected to win against Natasha, so therefore, I created a rule just for her."

Everyone, including the royal family, furrowed their brows, not sure what rules he was talking about.

The duels had never come with rules. At least not during Aurora and Liliana’s time. The rules were simply to win, nothing more.

Old Master Lenort felt satisfied and enthusiastic, seeing the looks on their faces.

"The rules are quite simple and beneficial," he said. "If Avelina is able to withstand Natasha’s attacks for five minutes without falling to the ground for more than five seconds, she will pass the test. Second rule: if she doesn’t fall out of the ring throughout the fight, she wins as well."

"Last rule: if she is able to defeat Natasha, she wins with my full acknowledgment, although that is impossible. But if she doesn’t win through any of these rules, she will be tossed out, whether my son likes it or not!"

His expression darkened. "I believe you all know what will happen when she is tossed out. She will be nothing more than food!"
