Chapter 301: I Don’t Care Anymore!
Valentine continued.
"He had a very rough experience when we were little. He had no chance to see his mother and was only able to do so on the day she died in front of him. That scarred him, I suppose, and it seems he does not want the same for Lady Avelina. Perhaps he would consider bringing Lady Avelina back after she goes home. But that is if she wants to."
"If not—knowing my brother, he would let her be." He deeply sighed. "Also, as I told you, he is not capable of love, so he would not want her to be with him. He would never be able to get over the guilt of knowing he could not reciprocate her feelings. He obviously wants her to choose someone else—someone who would feel the same way as she does."
Now, finally understanding, they took a deep breath.
"Oh...Don..." Ava bit her lower lip.
"But he deserves to be loved too. It is not his fault that he is not capable of love."
"I agree." Lucien nodded. "Besides, Lady Avelina does not mind. She obviously isn’t expecting him to reciprocate her feelings. From what happened, it is clear that she just wants to stay with him."
Loui pinched between his brows, exhausted. "It didn’t work out in the end, huh?" He cackled sadly to himself. "After all our hard work,"
Pierre took a step forward, patting him on the shoulder.
"Something might just change, Loui."
Loui glanced at him, sighing. "I doubt that. You know Don, he always stands by his words." They all sighed at the same time.
"Do you guys want to go for a drink?" Olive asked, wanting to soften the gloomy atmosphere.
"Sure, why not?" They nodded at him and began to exit the yard. Valentine followed behind them, his expression completely pessimistic. He sighed over and over again and tightly balled his hands into tight fists.
He’d hoped it would work out. He’d thought his brother would finally be happy, but...everything just went downhill.
In complete disbelief, he dryly laughed to himself.
——
Avelina slammed the door of the dressing room shut. She had changed out of her wet dress and was now clad in simple pink pajamas.
Her expression was filled with anger, and it looked as though if anyone even did as little as touch her, she would pounce on them. She approached the sofa and lay down on her side.
Her thoughts were in total chaos, and she could not even seem to ascertain which particular emotion she was feeling the most. She was angry, sad, hurt, and in pain.
Never did she imagine that things would go downhill in such a way. She expected a lot more for that night. She envisioned returning home with a smile on her face, but all she felt were complete negative emotions—nothing more than that.
What was even the problem? It was not like she was expecting him to love her back. Of course, she was aware he was not capable of love, and it honestly didn’t matter to her. She loved him that way. She loved being with him and wanted to stay forever.
But of course, she was nothing more than a woman who could be replaced.
Avelina shut her eyes at the recollection of such a statement, suddenly feeling her stomach twist painfully at the sound of it. He never should have said such things to her.
Was she that useless to him?
"Avelina..." That one voice she didn’t want to hear for the time being resounded in her ears, immediately causing her heart to skip a beat, this time in instant rage.
Draven, who had changed out of his wet outfit into simple casual wear, walked toward her on the couch. He squatted down and reached out his hand to touch her.
"Don’t you even dare touch me!" Avelina spoke, her tone heavily cold and authoritative.
Draven immediately stopped his action. He retracted his hand and took a deep breath. "Will you please come and sleep on the bed? It is not very comfortable on this—"
"That is none of your business," Avelina interrupted him. "It is not a concern of yours where I sleep, so leave me alone!"
Her words held a heavy weight of hostility.
Draven flickered his eyes completely, at a loss for words. He darted his pupils around, no longer sure of what to say.
"You are really mad at me, are you not?"
Avelina did not respond to him.
Draven took a deep breath. "Avelina, don’t be mad at me, please. I am doing it for you, do you not understand?"
"Also, you promised that you would not do distance and—"
"To hell with that damn promise!" Avelina finally turned around, sitting up on the sofa.
Draven drew his back, having never seen such intense rage and aggression in her eyes before. This alone made him come to the sudden realization that it was not something he could control anymore.
"Avelina—"
"I don’t care anymore." Avelina shook her head at him. "I am very mad, yes, I am! I am more than angry, and your face is the last thing I would want to see." Her voice was breaking in between her words as though she could cry at any moment.
She looked at her finger and forcefully took off the ring he had given her when he tied the red string to her.
"You can also have your stupid ring back!" She threw it at him and turned around to lie on the sofa, but Draven, who had caught the ring, grabbed her wrist, pulling her back up.
Avelina deeply frowned at him. "Let go of me!"
"Please wear it back." Draven stared at her with begging eyes. "I don’t want you to take it off even after you leave. Keep it, please."
Avelina scrunched her face in total disbelief. "Are you kidding me?"
"I said I don’t want your stupid ring! I am leaving next week, am I not? So why do you still want me to keep it? Take it and give it to that woman who will replace me. Or better yet, shove it down your throat!"
