Chapter 296: Happy? Is That It?

Chapter 296: Happy? Is That It?

This caused Avelina to rapidly blink her eyes.

Her...nose? Why did he kiss the tip of her nose? No one has ever done that to her. He was the first, and for reasons she could not understand, this always made her stomach flutter. He’d usually peck her cheek, though rarely, but it’d never made her feel what she felt from him kissing the tip of her nose.

It gave her such a gentle yet pure feeling. It was something she could not seem to explain.

Draven took his coat off and wrapped it around her body. "It’s cold outside," he said, grabbing her hand.

He left the room with her, and they proceeded toward the general foyer to exit the mansion.

Fortunately for Avelina, she had come across Aurora, who gave a thumbs up, able to tell what could possibly be going on. But her expression changed when she saw Edward walking in through the door just as she and Draven were about to exit the royal mansion.

Draven swerved past him, pulling Avelina along with him.

Obviously, as expected, Edward came to a stop. He turned around and watched as Avelina left with Draven. His eyes twitched bitterly, and he tightened his fist.

Draven was not at all bothered to even ask why he was still there at the royal mansion. It was not a business of his at all. He could not seem to care less, either.

He opened the door of the car and helped Avelina in. He walked over to the left side and sat down in the driver’s seat.

"Let me do that for you," he said, the second he saw Avelina about to put her seat belt on. He slanted closer and reached over his hand, helping her to lock in the belt.

Avelina, whose face was just two inches away from his, swallowed hard, blocking her mind from having any impure thoughts. She vigorously shook her head.

Draven moved his eyes to look at her. "Are you alright?"

"Uh, yes, I am. I’m okay." Avelina smiled at him.

Draven patted her head and pulled back. He started the car and drove off onto the road as soon as the royal guards opened the gate.

He turned the steering wheel, taking the left route to his destination.

"Where are we going?" Avelina could not help but ask amidst the ride. She was quite curious.

Draven slightly smirked. "You’ll see. I’m sure you will love it."

"Ah...I see." Avelina lowered her head, smiling to herself.

...

The drive took about fifteen to twenty minutes before they actually arrived at their destination.

Draven turned the steering wheel, driving through the concrete archway and the gate, which had been opened by Loui, who saw them coming. He parked the car, and Loui, who was clad in a fine suit, hurried to the side where Avelina was seated.

He opened the door for her and politely extended his hand to her.

"Good evening, my lady," he greeted as he helped her out of the car. "Beau. You look very lovely tonight."

Avelina softly smiled at his compliment. "Thank you."

Draven strolled all the way over to her. He grabbed her hand and began to walk further to where their date would take place.

Behind them, Olive and Loui, acting as the hosts, followed, vigilant enough to make sure that everything went according to plan. They could not afford any form of casualties.

Avelina tightened her grip on Draven’s hand the second her eyes fell on the magnificent decoration. With each step she took on the flower beds, her heart skipped a bit, not in anxiousness but in excitement and genuine joy that caused her soul to dance.

Her gaze moved from the colorful light bulbs to the warm glow of the torches, and she abruptly came to a stop, sighting the swarm of fireflies that had suddenly encircled her. It appeared as though she had attracted them. This was much more than enchanting—It was beyond beautiful.

Avelina glanced at the firefly that perched atop her finger, and slowly lifted her hand to examine it closely.

"So pretty," she muttered to herself, her lips curling into a tender smile.

Draven looked at her, and his eyes shifted to the firefly resting on her finger. "Do you like those beetles?" he asked.

Avelina glimpsed him, her smile widening.

"Of course. They are so beautiful and magical!" she confirmed, nodding her head.

Draven beamed, stepping forward and giving her gentle pats on the head. "Come." He grabbed her hand and walked her further through the lovely yard.

He only came to a stop once they arrived at the table. Politely, he pulled the chair out for her, gesturing for her to have a seat.

Avelina could feel her head swelling. This was exactly how she’d always imagined her date would be. It was coming true!

She took quick breaths to restrain herself from squealing in excitement and sat down on the chair. Draven sat opposite her and crossed his legs.

While they waited for the food, Draven asked, "Do you like this place?"

Avelina was quiet. She did not answer his question at that moment but rather looked around her. Her lips gradually curled into a smile, and she slowly nodded her head.

"I do. It’s so lovely. I love it," she responded in a gentle whispering tone, as though she were suddenly emotional.

Draven, who noticed, furrowed his brows in concern.

"Avelina, is everything alright? Do you feel uncomfortable?"

"No." Avelina shook her head at him. She chuckled, saying, "This is my first time on a date, Draven. Actually, I never thought I would one day be on a date, because no one would—"

"Take you?" Draven interrupted her.

Avelina cackled awkwardly, embarrassed. "Y-yes. With my situation back at home then and my unfortunate circumstances of being unable to match with anyone, it was not possible."

"I could only sit and watch my sisters, you know, have fun. So, I’m sort of a bit—"

"Happy? Is that it?" Draven probed.
