Chapter 291: What Is So Funny?
Chapter 291: What Is So Funny?
Pierre, who stood beside him, nodded, completely agreeing.
"It is. I have never seen something so lovely before."
Olive half smiled to himself. "I agree. I’m sure Lady Avelina will love this."
"Definitely." Valentine cackled. "Now all that is left is for them to realize they love each other."
Pierre immediately whipped his head to glance at him. "Heh? What do you mean?"
Valentine turned to look at him. He held a confused expression.
"Is...something wrong?"
"No." Pierre shook his head.
"You said something about hoping Don and Lady Avelina realize they love each other."
Valentine nodded his head. "Mhm yes. Why? Is there a problem?"
Loui chirped in. "Do they really love each other?"
"Of course!" Valentine shrugged, amused. "Isn’t it obvious?" He cocked an eyebrow.
Olive and the others peeked at each other. He said, "Well, we did suspect it, but we weren’t sure if we were right."
"Also, does Lady Avelina love him too?"
Valentine nodded. "Haha, if I’m not wrong, she loved him first."
He added, "But...I’m not very sure about my brother. I mean, I can tell that he does love her, but the problem is that he does not have any idea that he feels that way."
"What do you mean?" Loui inquired.
Valentine tilted his head. "You guys don’t know?"
They all glanced at each other, confused.
"Know what?" they inquired at the same time.
"My brother is incapable of love—well, he used to be. He doesn’t know what it’s like to fall in love, as he has never fallen in love before, so he has no idea that he loves—"
"Wait, wait, hold on?" Pierre stopped him. "What do you mean by "he’s incapable of love?"
"Our Don is not incapable of love. He loved his late wife, so—"
Valentine’s sudden burst of laughter had them all perplexed.
"HAHAHAHAAHAHA!!" He laughed so hard that he had to clutch his belly and wipe off the tears in his eyes with the tip of his fingers.
Ava frowned. "Why are you laughing? What is so funny?"
Valentine pinched between his brows and shook his head. He lifted his eyes and looked at them with a cold expression. "Do you guys even pay attention to my brother?"
"What do you mean?" Olive questioned.
"Well, you all have been with him for a long time, and you can’t even tell that something isn’t quite right with him." Valentine’s expression was one of amusement.
"Sorry to burst your bubbles, but my brother never loved his late wife, and his late wife never loved him either. It was all nothing but care." He shrugged. "He will kill me if he finds out I am telling you guys about this, but my brother lacks certain emotions, especially the ones that have to do with the heart." He pointed at his chest.
"He cannot feel love, and neither can he reciprocate it. All he felt for Lady Gwen was care, nothing more than that."
Lucien blinked her eyes, completely in disbelief. "But...that is impossible. The way he treated her was—"
Valentine interrupted, "That is my brother for you, Miss Lucien."
"For a woman dear to him, he would give anything, but not all. He has a limit. However, that is in the past now because that barrier is broken."
"What do you mean?" Loui probed.
Valentine went ahead and began to enlighten them, "That barrier of his has been broken by Lady Avelina. From the first moment he met her, it was bound to happen. For her, he would give the whole world. My brother would never be willing for Lady Gwen, that is a huge difference."
"Do you not see his eyes when he looks at my sister-in-law? It is the eye of a man in love." He chortled. "Honestly, I do not know much about love, but I can still tell, regardless."
"My brother is very oblivious and ignorant when it comes to the emotions related to the heart. Even though he is in love with her, he is unable to tell that it is love. He believes it is nothing more than care, as he is aware he is not capable of loving anyone."
He took a deep breath, raising his head to look at the barely bright sky. "I want to help him—to help him understand and not let go. I wouldn’t want it to be too late when he would not be able to rectify his mistakes."
"That is why I suggested this date to him." He smiled. "I am hoping that through it, he would be able to realize this, and Lady Avelina could at least open up to him and tell him how she truly feels. Consider it a little push from me. I’d like to see them happy."
Each of them gazed at him, and the first to speak with a huge smile on her face was Ava.
"Well, since it’s for the happiness of our Don, I’d be more than happy to help. Lady Avelina is heaven sent to our Don." She balled her fist, sniffling as though she were holding back little tears.
Lucien chuckled to herself. "Is there anything we can help with, Valentine? I want this to work out."
Valentine shrugged, shaking his head. "Eh...nothing really. We just have to make sure that everything goes accordingly and nothing goes wrong at all."
Olive, Pierre, Prince, and Loui glanced at each other and nodded their heads.
"Okay! We will do our best! This has to work!" Loui’s smile stretched from ear to ear.
Pierre, Olive, and Prince nodded, concurring.
Valentine stared at them and subconsciously smiled at himself.
Must be nice... He thought to himself.
Draven was quite lucky to have them in his life. They loved him, supported him in everything, and seemed to want the best for him. They were more than a family could ever be.
Suddenly, he could not help but feel even more lonely than he’d always felt. He had been left behind.
Draven would be falling in love finally and have a whole bunch of people who were better than a so-called family. But he, on the other hand, was alone. No love, no family, just...him
