Chapter 290: What Is He Doing Here?
Old Master Lenort shook his head. "That does not matter, son."
"Letting go is not the main plan, but having his heart broken is. If he truly is in love with her, then this will heavily shatter him. I mean, it is his first time falling in love after all, is it not?"
"Yes, it appears so. I have never seen him that way with his late wife nor look at any other woman with those eyes as he does that human." Ryan agreed.
Old Master Lenort grinned.
"Then sit and watch your little brother break down. Love can be blissful, but it can also be a punishment—a curse! To kill, you must weaken your enemy, Ryan. Remember that! This will be a first step, hopefully."
Ryan looked at him and swallowed. "You are right! It will be a first step. Then, when we have him at his lowest, we will break him completely."
"Good! Good!" Old Master Lenort chuckled, patting him on the shoulder. "Sit and watch things flow naturally."
"You may leave now," he dismissed.
Ryan gave a slight bow and left the office. He shoved his hands into the pocket of his pants and began to return to his quarter. Unfortunately for him, he ended up bumping into Lumian, who gave him no face at all.
Lumain swerved past him, strolling away as though he had not even laid his eyes on him.
Ryan came to a stop, turning around to gaze at Lumain’s disappearing figure. He wished to call him back and apologize for his behavior, but knowing the sort of person Lumain was, he knew it would not be possible, at least not yet.
He exhaled, turned around, and walked back to his quarter.

By early morning the next day, Draven had left the royal mansion, leaving Avelina to herself. He had been called by Valentine, who let him know that they were done with everything. They had spent twelve hours or more on everything. It appeared to be a lot, but they seemed to have made it possible.
Avelina gazed at herself in the mirror and softly smiled, adjusting the light pink dress she wore. She slipped her feet into her slippers and grabbed a book from the table, immediately making her way out of the room to walk to the royal grounds.
She liked the fountain at the center, so she believed she would most likely enjoy reading there while she waited for Draven to return.
Avelina sat down on the bench. She crossed her legs and opened the novel with a light smile evident on her face.
From a bit of a distance, Edward, who held a book and pen, was approaching with a disturbed expression. He deeply exhaled but instantly came to a halt at the sight of Avelina, who was immersed in the book she was reading.
Was the word "beautiful" enough to describe what he was staring at? It was a sight to behold—a sight that made his soul dance.
Avelina was exceptionally gorgeous—but truly, she was much more than that. She was gentle in his perspective, more than the word "lovely" could describe.
Edward found himself beaming subconsciously.
Did she know he’d spent far too much of his time thinking about her? Far too many of his days at his family house were spent wondering about her life in the royal mansion—how well off she was living despite being the only human amongst countless vampires.
He’d been worried, but more so, even more anxious, knowing he was in this same royal mansion with her—not just for that day, but for a few more days to come. This meant he would see her constantly, as long as he chose to.
His gaze found Avelina’s smiling side profile, and he could not help but begin to think. Falling in love with a human was the last thing he’d ever expected to occur to him. But there he was—the whole of him completely stolen by just this one mere human who didn’t amount to much.
He loved her—he really did. But would she love him too? Perhaps if Draven hadn’t taken her first, she would have been his.
Edward blinked, immediately shaking his head. No, no, it was alright. He could still have her. It does not matter if she was married or not; all he had to do was make her fall in love with him and seek his hand. Even if it meant going high and low for her love, he would.
She has to love him, not the third prince. Only he was worthy of her and her love, not the third prince.
Avelina was his, even though she was in someone else’s grip as of now.
He wished he could approach her at that moment, but he had work to do, so he could only postpone it, hoping for another chance such as this to speak to her. He had plenty of time, so he believed.
With a soft breath fleeing from his nose, Edward went about his business with the thought that Avelina had not noticed him instilled in his mind.
As soon as he was out of sight, Avelina shut the book she was reading and deeply frowned.
What is he doing here? She stood up from the bench, confused. She could not seem to think of a reason why Edward would be at the royal mansion. Also, was Draven aware?
Her eyes narrowed in suspicion.

Before the private yard, Valentine stood with Olive and the others.
Flower walls surrounded the yard, and beautiful ropes of lights were dragged above and across them, giving them a magical appearance. Each of the light bulbs had different sets of colors that complimented each other perfectly to the extent of leaving one in awe.
In the middle of the yard, with a colorful flower bed, was a pretty white round table and two fancy chairs, perfect for a date. Fireflies flew rapidly, their light, making things even more lovely than they were meant to be.
Valentine could not help but smile proudly.
"This is...perfect," he whispered.
