Chapter 289: She Is A Married Woman!
For reasons Edward could not figure out, he was feeling that perchance, that was not the case. There were tons of county coroners—famous ones even, so why him? He wasn’t big enough yet for his majesty to notice him to the point of inviting him to the royal place—a place where he never even holds a ceremony but rather chooses to do so in other lands of his.
Outsiders were rarely to be invited to the royal mansion, so what was going on?
Edward’s thoughts were heavily bugged, and he was left with so much skepticism that he found himself accidentally bumping into Aldéric, who came to an abrupt stop.
Aldéric turned his head, glancing at him. "This is your room, Sir Edward."
"Oh...?" Edward raised his head, looking at the door of the room.
"Have a pleasurable stay, Sir Edward. I shall leave you to yourself now." Aldéric bowed to him with his hand on his chest. "Everything you may need has been provided for you, therefore, you will lack nothing."
Edward blinked his eyes, slowly giving a nod. "Merci."
Aldéric strolled off.
Edward turned the knob and opened the door. He stepped inside, only to be enveloped by a large, luxurious room that was twice his own room at home.
They were indeed royalty!
The length and vastness of the room alone were leaving him dizzy, not to mention the king-sized bed and the high-quality marble floor. With a deep breath exiting his nose, he shut the door behind him and proceeded further into the room. He approached the closet, opening it to see that indeed, everything had been provided for him, just like Aldéric stated.
He walked over to the bed and sat down on it, his body feeling pleasure at the softness of the bed.
A soft smile could not help but appear on his face.
"Well, I must go now and begin my work," he said to himself, grabbing his notebook and pen to leave for the room where other invited doctors already were. Honestly, he had no freaking idea what he was even doing there.
Per his assessment, doctors were already invited to perform an autopsy on Lady Natasha, so why was he even invited as well?
Unable to come to a conclusion, Edward shrugged, determined to simply do his job and leave.
On his way to the hall, he accidentally came across Ryan, who had him stop.
"Edward?"
"Your Highness." Edward half-smiled.
Ryan raised a brow. "What...are you doing here?"
Edward replied, "His Majesty invited me to the palace."
"For what?" Ryan was curious.
"To help with your wife’s case, He wants me to perform an autopsy on your wife," Edward responded.
This caused Ryan’s frown to deepen.
"But why? We already have doctors invited to the royal mansion."
Edward awkwardly smiled. "I do not know, your highness."
Ryan stared at him for a few seconds, and without uttering another word, he began to walk away. His destination was his father’s office.
Arriving at the office, Aldéric immediately made an announcement of his presence.
"Let him in," Old Master Lenort responded.
Aldéric opened the door, his head bowed in deep respect.
Ryan walked into the office, the door shutting behind him. He advanced toward the desk, his face scrunched in a frown.
"Father."
Old Master Lenort averted his gaze from the documents he was going through to look at him.
"What is it?" he inquired.
Ryan began to speak. "I saw Edward just a few minutes ago. He told me that you invited him to the royal mansion to perform an autopsy on my wife. Why, father?"
Old Master Lenort halted what he was doing and looked at him.
"What do you think?"
Ryan glowered. "Father, I am confused. We already have doctors available to perform the autopsy, why is Edward here?"
Old Master Lenort smirked, resting back on his chair. "Do you really think I invited that boy just for that reason?"
"No." Ryan shook his head.
"Your intuition is correct." Old Master Lenort stood up from the chair and stepped out from behind his desk. He began to walk around Ryan, grabbing onto his shoulders.
"I invited him here to punish your little devilish brother."
"What?" Ryan blinked his eyes. "Draven?"
Old Master Lenort nodded. "Yes. He had gotten on my nerves with his little tricks, so now I am going to punish him."
Ryan quickly turned around to look at him. "How do you mean? What exactly can Edward do?"
"Oh, he can do a lot." Old Master Lenort chuckled softly.
"Not directly, but he sure can do a lot. Do you remember saying that perhaps Draven was in love with that human wife of his?" he questioned.
Ryan tilted his head. "I do, father. But...how is that supposed to—"
"Have you not seen the way Edward looks at that human?" Old Master Lenort threw an immediate question at him, interrupting him.
Ryan drew his head back, suddenly thinking back to the times Edward had attended royal ceremonies that had Avelina in them.
"Are you saying—"
"Yes, he is madly in love with her." Old Master Lenort laughed.
Ryan could not help but furrow his brows.
"But father, that human is married to Draven. How can Edward fall in love with her? She is a married woman."
Old Master Lenort shrugged. "Indeed, she is a married woman, but...do you think Edward cares?"
"If he could have her, he would take her away from Draven, and from what I heard, he did compete with Draven over that human at the auction. This meant he had always been in love with her from day one!"
Ryan darted his pupils around in confusion. "Okay, but...how exactly do you plan to use him?"
"To take this little bit of happiness away from Draven! He doesn’t deserve it." Old Master Lenort sneered.
"Take it as me giving Edward an opportunity to finally get what he wants."
Ryan stroked his jaw.
"But even if he does, Draven will not let that human go."
