Chapter 279: I’ll Fix It!

Lilianna left the room well, leaving just Ryan and Lestat in the room.

"Brother, who do you think could have wanted your wife dead?" Lestat asked, settling down on the chair.

Ryan looked at him and shook his head. "I don’t know. I really don’t know. The one who was a threat to her is already dead because I killed her."

"So you are sure that no one else wanted your wife dead?" Lestat further probed.

"Not any that I can think of," Ryan replied.

Lestat took a deep breath and stood up. "Well, calm down first and have a deep thought about this later. If you are able to think of anyone who could have wanted your wife dead, then we can start there."

Ryan nodded at him. "Thank you."

Lestat half-smiled at him and turned around, leaving the room. As soon as he was gone, Ryan stood up and began to break every breakable thing in the room, enraged and broken!

Who could have killed his wife? He could not figure it out! Not only that but now that his wife was dead, he had automatically been kicked off the line for the inheritance. To be eligible again, he would need to get married, and that was something he would never think of doing!

He loved Natasha and could not see himself being with another woman, even if it was for the sake of the inheritance.

Ryan breathed heavily and groaned deeply in pain. He plopped onto the chair and ran his fingers through his hair, completely lost.

As early as five a.m. the next morning, Draven approached the bed where Avelina lay fast asleep.

"Avelina, wake up." He shook her body, and Avelina moved, slowly blinking her eyes open.

She looked at him. "What’s wrong?"

"We have to go back. Come." Draven extended his hand out for her to help her out of bed.

Avelina lowered her eyes to his hand. She looked at his face and into his eyes before getting down from the bed by herself, completely disregarding him.

Draven frantically blinked his pupils, confusion instantly building up on his face. He quickly straightened up and turned around to look at her.

"Avelina, what’s—"

"Nothing is wrong, Draven, there is no need to ask. I can get out of bed on my own," Avelina cut in, turning her head to charmingly smile at him.

For some reason, Draven could feel that her smile was not genuine. It was not a matter of whether she could get out of bed or not, this was something he usually did for her, and she had never once rejected him.

He took a deep breath and walked toward her.

"Are you mad at me?" he asked, desperate for an answer.

Avelina, who was tying her shoes, did not respond to him but completely ignored him.

Draven deeply frowned. "Avelina." He bent, grabbing her arm to pull her up, but Avelina beat him to it, immediately slapping his hand away.

"Don’t touch me!" She glared at him.

Draven fluttered his eyes, now even more confused. "Why? What did I do wrong to you?"

"Urgh!" Avelina groaned, heavily annoyed. "Gosh, it’s so infuriating. You just never understand!!

"And that is why I need you to talk to me," Draven said to her, genuinely lost. "Explain to me, because I really cannot comprehend what the problem is if you do not make me understand."

Avelina stared at him. She slowly blinked her eyes and let out a soft breath. "Is there even a point in explaining to you?"

"Of course there is." Draven grabbed her by the shoulder, looking into her eyes. "Is this about last night?" he questioned, immediately realizing from the look in her eyes that indeed, it was the issue.

"But why would you be angry with me concerning that? Avelina, I did not take advantage of you—"

"Exactly!" Avelina pushed him away. "That is the problem. I didn’t want you to not take advantage of me!!"

A look of surprise flashed in Draven’s eyes. "What?" He was bewildered.

Realizing what she had said, Avelina’s lips trembled, and she nervously darted her eyes around, unable to hold eye contact. "T-that’s not what I meant. I-I just wanted you to—"

"Young master, the car is ready. We can leave now." Santino’s abrupt knock sounded, causing the both of them to look at the door at the same time.

Draven replied, "Okay."

He returned his attention to Avelina, wanting her to complete her words, but Avelina simply took a deep breath.

Draven pinched between his brows and took his coat off. He stepped toward her and helped her wear the coat. He buttoned it up and grabbed her hand to leave the room, but Avelina snatched her hand back.

"I can walk on my own, Draven," she said in a low voice.

Draven turned his head and glanced at her. "I know you can." He gripped her hand, this time tightly, to make sure she wouldn’t be able to pull away.

He left the room with Avelina, who held a disapproving expression.

The ride back to the royal mansion was quiet. Avelina, whose seat belt was well fastened, appeared to be asleep with her head resting against Draven’s shoulders.

As soon as Draven parked the car, he stepped down and moved over to the other side to open the door. He unbuckled the seat belt, carried her out, and properly lifted her into his arms.

He moved to their quarter and strolled over to their room. Santino, who followed behind, hurried up and opened the door for him.

Draven walked into the room and moved towards the bed. He slouched a bit and gently laid Avelina on the bed. He took her shoes off and covered her with the duvet, wanting to let her have a bit more sleep.

He straightened up, stared at her for a few seconds, and let out a cynical breath.

"I’ll fix it." He turned around and left the room.

He said to Santino, "Look after her. I’ll be back in an hour."

"Yes, young master." Santino nodded. He watched as Draven left, his figure fading out of sight.
