Chapter 273: I’m His Wife, Not Some Brunette!
Avelina glanced at her. She fluttered her large eyes and let out a soft breath before shaking her head.
"No..."
"Why?" Aurora shifted herself and her chair closer to hear her. "What happened?"
Avelina was silent, not sure how to put her frustrations into words. She took a deep breath and responded, "I am...mad at him."
"Heh? Why? What did he do?" Aurora inquired. She could not seem to think of anything Draven could have possibly done.
"Well..." Avelina paused, aggravated. Her irritation alone was preventing her from putting her feelings into words.
"H-he danced with another woman!"
Aurora raised her brow. "You mean the brunette?"
"Yes!" Avelina looked at her. "He was not just dancing with her, Aurora, they were having a full-on conversation! He only ever does that with me, no one else."
"Not only that, but that woman was smiling sheepishly like a goat! Urgh, I wanted to slap it off her face." She rolled her eyes.
Aurora, who was gazing intently at her, broke out into a wide smile. "Avelina, are you jealous?"
"J-jealous?" Avelina stuttered, frantically batting her lashes. "Ha..ha! How could I be jealous? Even if I were to be jealous, it definitely would not be of that woman! I may not be a brunette, but...I still look better than her. He said it himself, I was, and I am the prettiest in his eyes." She folded her arms, resting back on the chair.
"Hahaha." Aurora began to cackle.
She let out a soft breath and said, "Brunette or not, you are indeed worthy to be the only beautiful woman in his eyes. But did he ever tell you that his preference was for brunettes?"
Avelina slowly shook her head. "No."
"Then...what made you come to that conclusion?" Aurora further asked.
Avelina thought seriously for a few moments. She replied, "Well, his late wife was a brunette, and this woman is a brunette too!"
"That’s what made you come to this conclusion?" Aurora probed.
Avelina nodded, averting her gaze. "You would not understand, Aurora. It hur—"
"I think you are overthinking, Avelina." Aurora cackled softly.
"True, Gwen was a brunette, but just because this woman is too does not mean it is his preference. You know Draven, and he is a straightforward man. I think if he likes brunettes, he would have mentioned it to you."
"Besides, you could also be misunderstanding. Perchance, he was just having a casual conversation with that woman. They were dancing together after all."
"Still! Casual conversations or not, it really made me feel... hurt." Avelina puckered her lips, taking a deep breath. "Draven does not talk to people casually unless it has to do with work. He only does that with me, Aurora. It feels off to see him doing that with another woman.’’ She took a deep breath.
Aurora peered at her silently for a few seconds. She exhaled and adjusted her seat.
"Okay...I do see why you are worried. But tell me first, have you confessed to him?" she asked.
"Ye?" Avelina furiously blinked her eyes. She coughed, averting her gaze from her.
Aurora, who could immediately tell what such body language meant, widened her pupils in deep shock.
"Oh, dear heavens." She shook her head, speechless. "Why haven’t you told him how you feel?"
Avelina whispered back, "I don’t have the courage yet. Also, I want to be sure that I am making the right decision. I am just trying to take a few days to think everything over."
Aurora face-palmed herself. "What if someone else takes him by the time you are done thinking?"
"I won’t allow it!" Avelina scowled. "He’s...mine."
"Well, if he’s yours, do something. Don’t let any random brunette take your man away from you. Do something! You’re his wife, not some brunette!" Aurora said, hoping to hype her spirit up with her words.
"You’re right!" Avelina nodded. "I should act. I’m his wife, not some brunette!"
"That’s the spirit!" Aurora laughed, turning her head to the entrance the second an announcement was made.
It was the arrival of the queen. Lady Lilith!
As usual, her demeanor was so graceful and otherworldly that she could not help but draw attention and eyes to herself. She was gorgeous beyond disbelief after all and all, so to speak for tonight.
Her hips swayed from left to right as she approached the high platform, her eyes fixed on Old Master Lenort, who was smirking while gazing at her.
She ascended the few steps and stopped before Old Master Lenort, who politely took her extended hand and placed a soft kiss on the dorsal.
"Welcome," he said to her.
Lilith smiled, taking a seat beside him. She elegantly crossed her legs and took a deep breath, only sparing Avelina one disdained glance.
"You came." Old Master Lenort spoke without looking at her.
Lilith shrugged. "Of course I did. It’s my husband’s special day after all."
Old Master Lenort sneered and stood up from the chair. He stepped forward, spreading his arms to welcome the guests.
"It is an honor to have you all here. Today we shall..."
While he spoke, Natasha, who sat beside Aurora, began to breathe through her mouth, suddenly feeling exhausted as though she was running out of breath.
She anxiously adjusted her seat and gripped the armrest of her chair. Her insides, for reasons she could not tell, were burning as though she drank a cup of flame. It felt like it was on fire and was making her breathless.
Her vision was becoming heavy and blurry as well, and she felt as though she could collapse any moment from then on.
Aurora, who noticed, looked over at her. "Natasha...are you...alright?" She appeared worried and perplexed.
Natasha frantically nodded. She ran her fingers through her hair and immediately clutched her belly the second she felt a sharp pain course through her body. She gritted her teeth and began to breathe uncontrollably.
She widened her mouth, trying to hold in the pain and not disrupt the ceremony, but no longer able to do it, she screamed in deep agony.
"AHHH!!!!"
