Chapter 272: My...Brunette?

Chapter 272: My...Brunette?

Tatiana proffered a haughty smile, pulling Draven away with her.

Avelina could only stand on the marble-checkered floor alone, gazing at them. Her grip on her dress tightened, completely lost in her thoughts that all the couples waltzing around on the dance floor were nothing but blurred images to her.

Her heart pounded within her, and she furiously blinked her lashes. She turned around, walking away to the table where different types of alcoholic drinks were lined up. She grabbed a bottle of champagne and poured herself a glass.

Edward, who sat alone, could only watch her lonely figure take glass after glass of alcohol. His jaw clenched in annoyance, and he looked over at Draven, who was dancing with Tatiana, the urge to kill him overwhelming him.

If he were the one who had Avelina, he never would have left her like that! Of course, it was, as they said, no one knows the value of what they have until they lose it.

"Who are you?" Draven questioned, twirling Tatiana around.

Tatiana asked, "What do you mean?"

"Don’t act dumb. I know you want something from me, and I’m sure you haven’t only met me at the bar. You must have known me from somewhere else for you to approach me like that." Draven glared at her.

Tatiana gave a nod, smirking. "Indeed, you are right. But I must answer your questions one at a time, your highness."

"Who am I? Well, my name is Tatiana DuPont! You should know my mother. She’s a Paladin and also the chairwoman of our town’s parliament. I hope this clears your curiosity as to why I was personally invited by your father."

"Hmm, if you are also wondering why I am like this...not very ladylike as you men would adore, well, it is just my lifestyle." She cackled.

Draven narrowed his eyes into a thin line. "Your mother is...Eloise DuPont?"

"Bingo!" Tatiana confirmed.

Draven nervously blinked his eyes, suddenly feeling very uncomfortable. If Eloise DuPont truly was Tatiana’s mother, then this meant he was dancing with the daughter of the woman who had repeatedly molested his younger brother, Valentine!

Eloise DuPont! She was the one, the one whom his father had given Valentine to—the woman who had sexually abused Valentine over and over again, instilling such trauma in him.

It appears his father did this because Eloise was a paladin—a woman of high status. One that he could use her authority and fame for his benefit! Valentine was his pawn, and he used him however he wanted! How was he just realizing it now?

Instantly, Draven let go of Tatiana, stepping away from her.

Tatiana gazed at him, frowning.

"What’s wrong?"

"Nothing! I must go now." Draven turned to leave, but Tatiana hurried over, standing in front of him and preventing him from taking any further steps.

"Not so fast, Your Highness. Allow me to answer your last two questions." Tatiana smiled charmingly. "Indeed, the bar was not the place I met you for the first time. I am not sure if you recall, but I have been to the royal palace a few times when I was little."

"I did meet you there, meaning that I have always liked you since we were little, thus why I approached you without restraint at that bar. Alas, your attention was never on me, and I doubt it will ever be." She glanced at Avelina.

"And for the other question, yes, I do want something from you." Her lips curled into a coy smile, and her eyes went as low as to drop on Draven’s belt. She smirked, biting her lip. "That is what I want from you. Just one night is all I ask for."

Draven followed the line of her gaze and blinked, unable to comprehend if this woman had a bit of a screw loose. Surely she couldn’t behave this way unless she were drunk. But she does not reek of alcohol.

Slowly, he took a step back. "You are...crazy, really."

"Crazy for you, absolutely your Highness," Tatiana affirmed. "Just one night is all I ask for. Urgh! It is not like your wife can give you what I will give you. She wouldn’t even give you so much as a kiss, dear lord."

She shook her head, her eyes filled with disdain. "Think it over, Your Highness. I’ll surely make it a wonderful night for you." She seductively winked at him and began to walk away, her hips swaying from left to right.

Draven deeply exhaled, processing what had just occurred. He cleared his throat and quickly hurried off to Avelina who was still gulping glasses of drink after another.

"Avelina, come, I have—"

"Don’t touch me!" Avelina glared at him before he could touch her. "Go and continue dancing with your brunette! It seems like they are your favorites. Well, you see, I’m not a brunette. Sucks, right?!" She scoffed and aggressively grabbed a chunk of her dress, raising it to give her a bit more freedom to walk.

She looked at Draven with annoyed eyes and began to storm off toward her seat beside Aurora.

Draven stared at her and slowly blinked his eyes. It was more than obvious that he was in deep confusion.

"My...brunette?" He pointed at himself, lost in perplexity. He looked around, wondering what exactly had happened.

Did I do something wrong again? His pupils narrowed sharply, and he quickly looked at Avelina, who sat with folded arms.

What exactly had he done wrong? He can’t seem to understand. Who even was the brunette? Was it Tatiana? But why was she calling Tatiana his brunette?

Feeling a sudden, sharp headache, he grabbed his head and exhaled, unable to comprehend what was going on or why Avelina was mad at him.

He took deep breaths and began to proceed to the high platform to take his seat beside Lumian. He crossed his legs and supported his tilted head with his balled fist.

Avelina, who sat on the other side, took continuous, deep breaths, unable to calm down. Her head was on a sudden roller coaster, and she was aware that it was due to the amount of alcohol she took. There was a probability that she was starting to get drunk.

Aurora, who was seated beside her, could notice her restlessness. A bit concerned, she asked in a hushed voice, "Avelina, are you okay?"
