Chapter 260: Are You Scared?

Chapter 260: Are You Scared?

"Yes, my lady." Satino gave a nod.

Avelina scratched her cheek, wondering if she should go ahead with her question.

"Is there a problem, my lady?" Santino probed, able to glimpse the conflicted look she held.

Avelina frantically shook her head at him. "No, not at all."

"It’s just...do you think it’s okay for me to go to his room?" she queried, whispering.

"Sure, it is, my lady," Santino whispered back, which almost made Avelina chuckle.

Avelina smiled at him. "Thank you." She left, making her way over to the room where Draven was.

She gave three light knocks on the door, but no one answered. She furrowed her brows and grabbed the knob, opening the door and stepping in.

She shut the door behind her and looked around, only for her gaze to halt on the bed. It was...empty.

Avelina frowned. Did he leave? But if he did, Santino would have told her.

"Draven..." She looked around the room, confused, and a soft breath of disappointment fled her nose when she got no answer.

She turned around to leave the room, but at the sudden sight of something, she came to a halt. It was a...coffin.

Avelina blinked, crinkling her brows. Slowly but steadily, she began to approach the coffin. She stood next to it and stared at it for twenty seconds straight.

She was aware that vampires prefer to sleep in coffins as it was much more comfortable and warm for them, but...Draven couldn’t possibly be in there, right? She has never seen him sleep in one since knowing him. He had always slept on the bed with or without her.

Avelina took a deep breath. She grabbed the top of the coffin and opened it. Gradually, she looked inside and stilled instantly as though a statue.

Inside the coffin, Draven lay as if dead. His hair was loose and scattered around, and his hands were placed right on his chest, just like a corpse would be inside a coffin.

Is he...dead? Avelina was immediately overwhelmed with fear. She began to breathe heavily, afraid to even find out.

No, that is not possible! She shook her head and slowly reached out her hand to touch his nose.

His breath, although cold, fanned against her finger, immediately causing relief to wash all over her.

"Oh gosh, he’s alive!" Avelina furiously beat her chest, calming her racing heart. She squatted down and began to poke his face with the intention of waking him up.

He seemed to be in some sort of deep sleep. The Draven she knew would have woken up at her mere presence, but here she was poking his face, and yet he wasn’t waking up.

"Draven..." She poked his forehead, yet he gave no response.

Avelina became perplexed. What was going on?

"Draven, wake up!" she called him, a bit annoyed. Yes, she wasn’t supposed to wake him up—It was still noon, but she had something to say to him. She does not want to change her mind and start overthinking.

Draven, who was indeed in a deep sleep, frowned subtly, able to hear her voice echoing in his head. He had thought he was dreaming, but that was not it. He could also feel someone touching, poking, and shaking his head.

He groaned, displeased.

Avelina had caught a glimpse of his expression, so she immediately straightened up, leaned in a bit, and grabbed his head. She brought her face close to his and raised her brows in contemplation.

"Draven! Wake. Up!" She spoke, her tone high. "I have something to say to—"

Draven abruptly sprang his piercing red eyes open, causing an immediate startled gasp to flee from Avelina. She jolted away and fell to the floor on her buttocks, immediately crawling backward.

"D-Draven," she stuttered, gulping.

"Urgh!" Draven grumbled, lowering his head in tiredness. He ran his fingers through his hair, yet to notice Avelina, who was on the floor. His face was scrunched as though he could kill someone.

"Santi—" His words stuck in his throat the second he glimpsed Avelina, who was on the floor, staring at him. She looked...scared.

Why? He was baffled.

Avelina’s heart skipped a beat, and she immediately got up to sit on her knees. "I’m so sorry!" She frantically waved her hands apologetically. "I didn’t mean to wake you up. I just had something to say to you and I thought I should wake you up before I begin to overthink agai—"

"Avelina!" Draven interrupted her, his head sloping in amusement. "Why are you so tense?"

Avelina fluttered her eyes. "Huh...?"

Draven half-smiled at her. He stood up and stepped out of the coffin. He approached and squatted down in front of her, his loose hair touching his shoulder.

"Are you scared?" he asked.

Avelina slowly shook her head, her gaze stuck on his bare upper body.

’Not only that, but you would desire him too. You would have...thoughts’ Aurora’s words echoed in her mind, and she subconsciously swallowed.

"Then what’s wrong?" Draven probed.

Avelain responded subconsciously, "I...I don’t know. It’s just, I have never seen—"

"You’ve never seen me sleep in a coffin before." Draven smirked. He shifted closer and ran his fingers through her hair, gently cupping her cheek in his palms. "Well, that is because of you."

Finally snapping out of her drifting thoughts, Avelina looked into his eyes. "Because...of me?"

Draven nodded. "Mhm. I did not want to leave you sleeping alone. And I didn’t think you would feel comfortable having me sleep in a coffin while you lay on the bed. So when I sleep alone, I use the coffin. It is what I am used to, and it feels much more comfortable," he explained.

Avelina stared at him. She could not seem to avert her gaze from him.

His morning voice was like a melody to her ears. It was much deeper and more exotic. She could listen to him speak forever.

"Avelina...?" Draven pulled on her cheek, wondering why she was in a daze.

Avelina shook her head, snapping back to herself. She cleared her throat and chucked awkwardly.

"Regardless, I am still sorry for waking you up," she apologized.

"I see..." Draven patted her head. "I am not at all offended. So tell me, what did you want to say to me?"
