Chapter 258: Evil?
Chapter 258: Evil?
"Can I ask you a question?" Avelina queried. "I am very confused about something. I have been trying to figure it out, but I need help. If you would be willing to hear me out and just...explain and—"
"Of course! I would be more than willing to help." Aurora beamed.
"So what is it? What are you confused about?"
Avelina deeply exhaled. She asked, "Do you love your husband?"
Aurora was taken aback by the questions, but regardless, she responded, "Yes, I do love my husband very much." Her eyes alone said it all.
"What is it like?" Avelina probed.
"Huh? What do you mean?" Aurora tilted her head, perplexed.
Avelina shifted closer to her.
"What...is it like to be in love? What does it make you feel? How can you tell that you are in love?"
Aurora slowly smirked, her brows arched in surprise. "Oh, why do you ask? Are you in love?" Her gaze was anticipating.
Avelina’s face immediately heated up, and she began to fidget with her dress. Anyone who looked at her could tell that she was shy.
Aurora began to cackle. "You are such a cute human." She was amused.
"Well, love is a very confusing feeling, and I think I can understand why you are perplexed," she began to enlighten her.
Avelina immediately faced her, very interested and attentive.
"When you love someone, Avelina, they are much more than a "just," Aurora said, glancing at her. "They are quite everything to you. Let’s say you love a man, you would blush when you are around him. You would be free, relaxed, comfortable, and feel in a way you would never feel around another man."
"A few minutes with him would feel like heaven. Every moment spent with him would be what you would enjoy the most. When you are in love with a man, you will smile constantly, but only around him. You will find yourself laughing even when his jokes are not funny." She chuckled.
"You would adore him, and it would always feel like only he existed in your eyes. You would find yourself seeking his comfort, perhaps his warm hugs. I don’t know, it’s just that everything would feel so different with him. It could never be the same with someone else."
"Every little thing he does would leave you feeling butterflies in your stomach, and your heart, my dear, would constantly skip a beat at the mere sight of him."
She sighed. "You would listen without judgment and show consideration for his needs and wishes. You would find yourself trusting him more than you would even trust yourself."
She leaned closer to Avelina’s dazed self and grinned at her. "Not only that, but you would desire him too. You would have...thoughts, if you know what I mean, but only of him." She laughed, touching the tip of Avelina’s nose.
Avelina furiously blinked her eyes. She could hear her heart pounding in her chest. It was beating so loudly that it felt like it could thump right out of her chest.
"You are as red as a tomato." Aurora began to laugh. "Tell me, who are you in love with?"
She whispered, "Is it...Draven? He is your husband after all."
Avelina immediately flinched, quickly turning her face to the other side. "I-I—"
"So it is him!" Aurora gasped, her smile reaching her ears. She quickly grabbed Avelina, turning her around to have her face her.
"It is him, right? You love him, right?"
Avelina trembled in her grip, her lips parted as though wanting to speak, but she appeared to be unable to do so.
"Are you shy?" Aurora asked.
She clicked her tongue, disappointed. "How can you be shy? What are you even shy about? He is your husband, and there is nothing embarrassing about falling in love with him."
Her expression darkened. "Unless he is not the one—"
"It is him!" Avelina instantly shook her head. "It is...him. No one else..." She tightened her grip on her dress, lowering her head to stare at the bench.
Aurora tipped her head to the side. She appeared bewildered. "Then why are you shy? Wait! You have not told him?!" she questioned, flabbergasted.
Avelina slowly nodded her head.
"Mhm. I was not sure if I loved him. I needed to be sure, hence why I asked you. But now, I am very aware that I do love him. I have never felt this way about anyone before. Never!" She shook her head.
Aurora probed, "Then, will you tell him?"
Avelina looked at her. She replied, stuttering, "I-I don’t know."
"Huh? Why? What do you mean, "you don’t know?" Aurora frowned at her.
Avelina scratched her head. "I am...scared."
"Of what?" Aurora further queried.
"He is not emotionally capable, Aurora, and so I am afraid he would never be able to love me too," Avelina explained.
Aurora lifted her brow at her.
"Really? Are you sure that is what you are scared of?"
"What do you mean?" Avelina asked, seeming lost.
Aurora clarified, "Avelina, you were aware that he was emotionally incapable, and yet you fell in love with him. This means you didn’t mind at all whether he would love you or not. He treats you well, much more than a man who is in love would treat a woman."
"Anyone who looked at him would not be able to tell that he didn’t love you. I find it hard to believe."
"So tell me..." She smiled. "What is it that you are actually scared of?"
Avelina fluttered her eyes. She took a cynical breath and swallowed hard, suddenly tensing up.
"My...family."
"Your family?" Aurora was surprised. "What about your family?"
Avelina began to speak. "I am a human, and you understand the sort of awful relationship humans have with your kind, right?"
"Mhm, I do." Aurora nodded.
"Well..." Avelina took a deep breath. "My father owns a cathedral, and my family is very religious. To most humans, especially my family, your kind are..."
"Evil?" Aurora grinned.
Avelina nodded. "My family really hates your kindness. They are very hostile, a-and I know they would never allow me to be with Draven. If they find out t-that I feel this way for him or that I even married him, they will kill me. Aurora."
