Chapter 246: A Date!
Chapter 246: A Date!
"Huh?!" Valentine snapped out of his drifting thoughts. He glanced at Draven and smiled innocently.
"Nothing." He shook his head, cackling softly.
He cleared his throat and proceeded to explain, "So, as I was saying, you do need to be romantic to make a proper apology. An apology without a bit of romance is often...urgh!"
"Oh..." Draven gradually nodded his head. "I see. So how do I be romantic while I apologize?"
Valentine began to chuckle to himself. "Well...ahem! It’s not very hard."
"It’s not?" Draven asked.
Valentine shook his head. "Not even one bit."
"Draven, have you ever heard of something called a date?"
"A...what?" Draven drew his head back, bewildered. A date? The fruit date? Or... could it be something else?
Valentine face-palmed himself. "I really have a lot to teach you!"
"Can you tell me what a date is?" Draven implored. "I’ve never heard of that before."
Valentine adjusted his seat. He began to enlighten him: "So a date is simple. You could call it a perfect nighttime occasion or something like that. Basically, it is a beautiful night where you take someone out—someone you care about!"
Well, if I said he loved, Draven would never do it! A little bit of lying in between won’t hurt. They are married, after all... He thought inwardly and coughed a bit.
He continued, "You could take them anywhere you think they will love. It could be to a restaurant, to the park, anywhere romantic enough for a date night."
"A....park..." Draven pondered it seriously. He abruptly snapped his fingers as though an idea had suddenly lit up in his head. "I see! I now understand."
"No, no, wait! I’m not done." Valentine stopped him. He clicked his tongue and stood up from the couch.
"Draven, a good date night is not just about taking the person out. That’s boring. You have to spice it up if you really want her to appreciate it."
Draven narrowed his eyes into a thin line. "And how do I spice this thing called a "date night" up?"
"It’s simple," Valentine smirked. "You have to give her something pretty—anything you are sure she would really love. Add a huge bouquet of gorgeous flowers to it. It would be even better if you could find out what her favorite flowers are."
"Get a very pretty dress too, make her feel so freaking beautiful that night like she is the only one that exists in your world. You have to let that night be about just the both of you. You must not be interrupted, otherwise, it would ruin the fucking experience."
Draven nodded attentively. "Understood. Is there anything else?"
"Yes. It would be really good if you could indirectly find out which she prefers. The park or the restaurant," Valentine replied.
Draven folded his arms. "Can’t I be straightforward and ask? Why do I need to be indirect?"
"Because if you were direct, it would ruin the freaking surprise! Jesus! Dear heavens!" Valentine breathed heavily, annoyed.
Draven’s expression darkened. "Don’t shout at me! You should calm down!" His tone was soft but held a direct warning.
"I really wonder how my sister-in-law deals with you." Valentine scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Indirectly, you ask indirectly, understand?"
Draven gave a nod. "Understood."
"Anything else?"
Valentine waved his hands at him. "Not at all. This is all you need. Remember, you only apologize at the end of this date. She will surely forgive you." He turned around to leave but stopped as if he had a recollection. "Also, to avoid any mistakes, I can help you with the planning."
He was smiling widely, as though happy to help.
Draven took a moment to think about it. He responded, "My workers can do it for me."
"You mean, Olive and the others? I don’t know how many they are." Valentine was obviously dissatisfied.
Draven affirmed, "Yes."
Valentine scrunched his face in displeasure. "But how sure are you that they won’t mess up?"
"They have never messed up before," Draven replied.
"But I gave you this idea!" Valentine retaliated. "I should help you plan for it. That way, it is guaranteed to go as smoothly as possible. I can help your workers with it, how about that?"
Draven gazed at him for a few moments before agreeing, "Fine."
"Have you been eating well?" he suddenly asked.
"Hm?" Valentine was taken aback by his question. "What...do you mean?"
Draven gave him an answer, "You look thinner than usual. I felt it from your hand." He let out a soft breath. "You should...take care." No emotion was visible on his face, but his tone hinted at his concern. He began to walk away, leaving the area.
As soon as he was out of sight, Valentine fluttered his eyes and looked at his hand. He lifted his shirt and examined his belly and waist, suddenly realizing that he indeed did look smaller.
Why? Sure, he had been having quite the loss of appetite, which he cannot pinpoint why, but why lose some weight that quickly? ’
He sighed, tired out. But unwilling to let it ruin his mood, he balled his fist, proud of himself.
"Yes! He will be thankful for this later." He laughed softly, happy with himself.
——
Loui and Olive arrived at the address that they had acquired. They stared at the house, which stood right in front of them.
"Do we...knock?" Loui asked.
Olive wasn’t sure himself, but he did give a nod. It’s not like there is any other option. He took a deep breath and made the first move to advance toward the door. He knocked three times.
No response came.
They could not help but glance at each other, and Loui’s eyes flickered frantically. He was feeling a bit uneasy, as though he had no intention of being there at all.
Olive proceeded to knock again, but Loui stopped him.
"There is a doorbell right here. You should probably ring it. I don’t think knocking will work," he said.
Olive glanced at the doorbell and moved over to ring it. A few seconds passed before the door was suddenly opened.
A middle-aged woman clad in a floor-length dress came into view. She had a serious expression on her face, and they could glimpse the bit of gray hair evident on her head.
"Hello..." Olive smiled politely.
