Chapter 242: Afraid...Of What?

Chapter 242: Afraid...Of What?

Loui advanced next to her, took the drink from her, and grabbed her chin with his hand.

Charlotte, who was confused, stared at him, not sure what was going on. "You came ba—"

Loui captured her lips with his, kissing her ever so lovingly and in a gentleman-like manner. This went on for a few seconds, and he pulled back, taking the girl’s breath away.

Charlotte fluttered her eyes and swallowed hard, not sure what had just happened.

Loui whipped out a card from his pocket. "Call me whenever you please." He gave it to her, then turned around and left to find Olive.

Charlotte could only stare at his disappearing figure before lowering her head to glance at the card.

She chuckled. "Something about you is different." She bit her lip in a flirtatious manner, making it clear that that was the best kiss she had ever had in her life. That man was good with women—this she could tell.

She grinned and stood up from her chair to leave.

...

Loui arrived next to Olive, who was seated in the chair at the roulette table. He grabbed his arm, pulling him up and dragging him away.

"Pay. We must leave now!"

"What? Why?" Olive glowered, confused.

Loui glanced at him. "I have some information."

Olive was quite surprised.

"Information? I have one too. But lay yours to me first."

Loui grabbed his shoulders and pulled him close to whisper into his ear. "I think we may have found the Hamilton family we are looking for here in Rennes. But...it seems that they own a cathedral."

"A cathedral?" Olive pulled back to stare at him. He was baffled.

Loui nodded. "Indeed. The woman is said to be a redhead, just like Lady Avelina. But the other members of the family are blondes."

Olive fluttered her eyes.

"I got the same information as well. But I was not told anything about a cathedral. This is troublesome."

"I know." Loui bit his nails, stressed out. "Pay for what we have used. We must leave immediately and find a way to go about this."

"Wait for me here." Olive hurried off. He returned a few minutes later and quickly hurried out of the casino with Loui.

Loui abruptly spoke. "I forgot to get the address for this Hamilton family, so I am not sure how we will get there."

"Do not worry." Olive tapped his shoulder. "I have the address, and I know the way. Those old men in that casino do have a lot of information." He smirked as they approached a secluded area. "We have to go through flight—that is, to get there faster. There is currently traffic, going through a taxi would be a waste of time."

Loui concurred with him and wrinkled his brows. Something was bothering him, but he was not exactly sure how to go about it.

"Stand back," Olive said to him. He used his ability to pick up a flat metal board and cover the secluded space that they had taken in order to avoid the prying eyes of the humans.

He took his coat off and slowly unfurled his dark pair of wings, ready to leave. He glanced at Loui, who was yet to do the same and loured in confusion.

"What are you waiting for?"

"A-are you not afraid?" Loui questioned.

Olive tilted his head, thoroughly confused. "Afraid...of what?"

"We are going to visit a fucking cathedral, Olive. Sets of religious people. You know how it is." Loui looked at him, deeply frowning. "What if they have holy water? What would we do?"

Olive pinched between his brows, shaking his head. "Holy water only hurts those who are evil and bear evil in their hearts, Loui."

"That is not true." Loui disagreed.

"We are night creatures. Whether we bear evil in our hearts or not, it does not matter to them or the holy water! It does not make any difference at all. We are born of the night, and we do not seek the light because the light hurts us. That alone makes us..." He shut his eyes, taking a deep breath.

Olive gazed at him before abruptly smacking his head. "Does it matter? The humans do more evil than we ever could—"

"But the light does not hurt them, and neither are they afraid of the holy water," Loui interrupted him.

Olive nodded. "Indeed. This is to show you that the light hating us is not because we are evil, we are just not compatible with it, and it is our weakness. When you reject a woman, it is not often because you dislike her but because you both are not compatible with each other. Some things do not define who you are, Loui."

"That is what I believe is the case here. We are night creatures for a reason and even though we cannot move in the sun, it does not make humans any better than us. Besides, why be afraid of the holy water? It is not like anyone is going to find out that we are vampires. We’ve got our scents covered, remember?" He raised his brow.

Loui thought about it for a few seconds before deeply exhaling. He took his coat off, spread his wings, and slowly rose into the sky with Olive.

Off to find the Hamilton family, they went.

They flew for at least twenty to thirty minutes before Olive came to a halt in midair. "There it is," he said.

Loui glanced around and scrunched his brows. "Are you sure we are at the right place? I don’t see a cathedral."

Olive raised his hand, playfully slapping his head.

"Look over there." He pointed at a huge building, a bit distance from where they were. "There is the cathedral."

"Oh..." Loui fluttered his eyes. "So what do we do? D-do we go?"

Olive glowered at him. "Are you still afraid?"

"O-Of course not..." Loui looked away from him.

But Olive could see through his half-assed acting. "I don’t know what it is or why you are so afraid, but relax. It’s not like we are walking in there with our wings out, fangs out, and nails out. We are going undercover! Keep that in mind!"
