Chapter 240: Shall We Move On?
Draven, who was seated at the window of his room, blinked his eyes, enjoying the view of the cosmos.
"It’s beautiful..." Avelina’s voice resounded abruptly in his head, and he averted his gaze to glance at the emptiness beside him. Of course, he recalls.
His crimson orbs flickered before gradually dilating as though he had recollected something. Quickly, he hurried out of the room and made his way to his master bedroom.
Reluctantly, he turned the knob and opened the door. Yes, he was meant to give her a hug. He agreed and promised he would do so to her every morning and every night before she went to sleep. He had forgotten, and only now had he remembered.
Could she be mad? sad, or maybe disappointed?
Draven let out a quiet breath and entered the room. He glanced at the bed to see Avelina under the duvet, facing the other side.
He approached the bed and walked over to squat down. He stared at her and rubbed his temple, feeling a bit cynical. He didn’t mean to forget.
She was already asleep, meaning that he had missed his chance.
Draven hesitantly extended his hand, cupping her plump cheek in his palm. That soft, warm feeling he’d always felt whenever he touched her, was a great feeling.
He took a deep breath and went ahead to caress her cheek, and Avelina, who could feel it, adjusted to rest in his palm.
Draven stroked her ginger curls and mouthed, apologizing, "I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to forget." His voice was gentle as always.
He retracted his hand and stood up, exiting the room.
The second he was gone, Avelain fluttered her lashes apart, her pupils gleaming as though they were wet.
She quickly covered her head with the duvet and buried her face in the pillow. No one could tell if she was crying into it or perhaps just trying to calm down.
——
Loui walked out of the hotel with Olive.
They halted, took deep breaths, and glanced at each other.
"What do we do? Where do we start?" Loui inquired.
Olive raised his head to glimpse the dark sky. He shrugged, responding, "Perhaps we should start with a casino. See if we can find anything."
"Indeed. But what about the spending?" Loui arched his brow.
Olive replied, "Don said we may spend however we desire. I believe this is so because it isn’t his main credit card, but it does not mean we should be lavish. We shall have some decorum and spend as little as possible. We are only going there to get information, after all."
"You have a point, I suppose." Loui came to an agreement with him. "Although, how do we find the way to the casino? I have never been to Rennes be—"
"We ask," Olive interrupted.
He went ahead to explain, "I do not know as well. I’ve been to Rennes before, but I have never ventured to a casino, so what we must do is inquire." He looked from his left to his right, quickly stopping a man with a bright, inviting smile on his face. "Monsieur, I’d like to make some inquiries from you if you do not mind."
The stranger blinked his gray eyes. He was a bit reluctant, but as he saw no crime in helping some lost sheep, he stepped aside to hear them out.
"Whatever you may want?" he asked.
Olive glanced at Loui. He took a moment to speak. "Apologies for the inconvenience, but perchance you may know the direction to any available casinos, whether far or close by."
"Oh..." The stranger slowly began to nod his head as though thinking. "I certainly do know one. It’s quite expensive, but if you gentlemen can afford it, I shall give you the directions."
Olive smiled in relief. "Oh, thank you very much. That would be very kind of you."
The stranger gave a nod. He went ahead to give them direction.
"Merci," Olive said to him, certainly appreciative of his help.
Loui smirked. "Shall we move?"
"Absolutely. This might be fun." Olive cackled under his breath and flagged down a taxi. Their destination was the casino—one of the best in the town of Rennes.
Their drive was a thirty-minute one. The driver came to a stop in front of a huge building, constructed exquisitely. Fine decoration and quality painting.
The owner must have a fine taste—this they thought as they stepped down from the cab. The taxi took off, and Loui and Olive began to approach the sprawling building.
"Loui," Olive spoke his name without sparing him a glance.
Loui asked, "What is the matter?"
"Please behave yourself in there. You are a womanizer, so do your best not to get carried away. I do not want you to forget that we are here for a reason," Olive said.
Loui scrunched his face, displeased.
"My god, shut up! I do not deny that I love women, but I am certainly not so bad that I would forget a mission as important as this just for a few hours of fun. Don’t think that lowly of me." He clicked his tongue as he ran his fingers through his blonde hair.
Olive’s expression hinted at his skepticism. He adjusted his coat, and together with Loui, he approached the glass door that led into the casino.
They were well dressed in fine sets of clothing, designers, to be precise. Casinos were not a place for just anyone. It was a fun cave for the rich, whose money does not matter to them.
To be held in high regard, one must have fine taste in fashion—the one able to catch the attention of those old greedy men. They would eventually get close to you willingly. One must fit into their ways—that is for certain.
The luxurious interior of the casino came into view. Loui and Olive came to a halt. They could not help but admire it. It was very similar to the casino they had back in their own world. The worlds of humans really do not differ at all from theirs. There would have been no possibility of telling them apart if not for the barrier.
"Shall we move on?" Loui smirked.
