A Game Of Chess With A Vampire
Chapter 238: That Will Never Happen!

Chapter 238: That Will Never Happen!

They waited a bit longer than they wanted before Dimitri returned. He walked in with a middle-aged man clad completely in a well-covered black outfit.

"Bonjour, your highness," the middle-aged man greeted.

Lumian nodded, acknowledging him.

The middle-aged man, well known by his name François, shifted his attention to Aurora, who held a slight bit of a pained expression. He gave her a slight bow.

"May I know what the problem is?" he queried.

Lumian went ahead to explain, "I’m not exactly sure, but she just suddenly had this sharp pain in her belly. Like kicking or something. It has never occurred before."

"Oh..." Mr. François furrowed his brows. It was common knowledge that vampires do not experience illness like humans. They do not feel pain unless they are physically hurt. Now there was only one thing that could actually cause pain to a female vampire without any physical injury or so, and that was...pregnancy.

This was the only conclusion he could come to.

"I think I may have an idea of what could be wrong with your wife," he said, taking a step toward Aurora.

Lumian stared at him, worried for his wife. What could it possibly be? His wife could not perchance be sick, as that was very much impossible.

Mr. François went down on his knees. "May I have your hand, my lady?"

"W-why?" Aurora asked.

"To check for any changes in you, There is something that I’d like to confirm," Mr. François responded.

Aurora was a bit reluctant, but she did give her hand to him. The entire room was silent, and after two to three minutes, Mr. François stood up and stepped away from her with a soft smile on his lips.

He turned to Lumian.

"Your Highness, your wife is quite alright."

"Then...what is the problem?" Lumian was confused.

Mr. François slightly bowed to him before revealing, "Your wife is pregnant."

"What?" Lumian was not exactly sure if he heard him right.

Mr. François nodded, affirming, "Yes, my lady is with a child."

He went further to explain, "I can’t exactly determine how many months now, alas you will have to visit a hospital for an in-depth examination."

"Congratulations." He smiled. "I shall take my leave now." He dismissed himself, leaving with Dimitri, who showed him the way out.

Lumian could only stand and stare in disbelief and deep shock. In fact, he was in a momentary daze.

Pregnant? How could his wife be pregnant? He thought it was impossible. I mean, they have been married for so many years. He even got married years before Draven or Lestat even did. Yet they all had kids before him. Lestat had a daughter, Ryan had a son, and so did Draven, even though the boy was no longer around.

He had even given up on the idea of having kids because he was tired of hoping and expecting. He was a man who really loved kids, which was why he had always looked after Valentine during their childhood, so that had just...

A deep breath fled from Lumian, and he blinked his eyes. The bubble of tears that had welled up in his eyes, unbeknownst to him, broke and slipped down his cheek.

When was the last time he had ever cried? Why was he even crying? He could even fathom the sort of emotions that were surging through him. But one thing was for certain, those feelings were not sadness or grief, they were hearty emotions.

Aurora could only sit and stare at him.

She knew—she knew how much this man had always wanted to have a child. He just never said it out or made a fuss about it because he did not want to make her feel like she was the problem. He did not want to hurt her or pressure her. He wanted her to be at ease, so he was willing to put those feelings aside and smile.

Aurora stood up from the bed. She approached him, and ever so gently, she wrapped her arms around him, embracing him.

"Finally," she whispered, chuckling.

Lumian began to caress her hair, carefully hugging her and laying his cheek on her head.

"Lumian, I had been noticing that my belly was getting quite big, but...I never understood why. Also, my maids complained that I looked paler than usual. I was confused, but I didn’t want to think too much of it."

"Haha." She chuckled. "I never would have thought I had our baby in me."

A soft breath exited her nose, and she lifted her head to look at Lumian. "Will our child be safe?"

"Why not?" Lumian asked.

Aurora shrugged, concerned.

"I do not know, but I am quite worried. What will happen when everyone finds out, especially father? Wouldn’t he use this child against you? To chain you even more tightly to him. I mean, I do not want what happened to Draven to happen to us too." She shook her head.

"That will never happen!" Lumian declared. "I will not allow it. This baby will be okay, and I will make sure of that. If I have to keep it a secret, I will!"

"Aurora blinked her eyes. "But how?"

"I’ll be obedient. That’s all it costs, isn’t it?" Lumian arched his brow at her.

Aurora quickly shook her head at him.

"No, Lumian, you mustn’t. The more obedient you are to that monster, the more he will consume you. Do you not understand? He is taking full control of you, and sooner or later, you will not be able to break free from him."

She grabbed his hand. "Listen, Lumian, I do not want our baby to cause you harm or make you do this. There has to be another solution—something we can do!"

"Like what?" Lumian grabbed her shoulder, stressed out.

Aurora took a deep breath, not sure if she should go ahead and state what was on her mind.

"Aurora..." Lumian was tightening his grip on her shoulder.
