Chapter 229: Who Is That In His Arms?
Avelina lifted her head, glimpsing his expression. She blinked her eyes and averted her gaze, not exactly sure what to say in response to his statement. There was some sort of emotion behind those words, but she could not seem to pinpoint it.
They arrived at the general foyer, but before they could exit the building to his garage, they came face to face with Ryan who was walking hand in hand with his wife, Natasha.
Avelina’s eyes met those of Natasha’s gray orbs. She could glimpse a deadly glint flash in her pupils.
"Bitch..." Natasha mouthed, having this expression of disdain.
Avelina arched her brows before rolling her eyes. It was clear that she couldn’t care less, but quite amused by Natasha’s childish behavior, she could not help but chuckle beneath her breath.
Of course, this didn’t pass Natasha’s notice. She bared her nails, the urge to cut Avelina’s skin overwhelming her.
Avelina immediately covered her mouth, restraining herself from bursting into laughter. "Now, I don’t think you would want to do that." She raised her head, glancing at Draven.
Natasha already knew what she met by that, so she retracted her nails and took a deep breath of annoyance.
Avelina curled her arms around Draven’s arm. She asked, "Draven, aren’t we running late?"
Draven looked at her while adjusting his glasses. He nodded and began to walk away with her, but before they could reach the exit door, Avelina turned her head and winked at Natasha as though taunting her.
Natasha’s head could almost explode at that moment. Her face was red, showing just how much anger was boiling within her.
"That stupid measly human w—"
"Calm down, Natasha." Ryan began to walk off while pulling her along with him. His eyes were deemed and his expression darkened. He and Draven may not have said a word to each other, but the silence was a bit too loud between the both of them.
....
Draven pulled the door of the car open for her and helped Avelina lock her belt. He strolled over to the driver’s seat and sat down, fastening his seat belt as well. He started the engine and as soon as the gate was opened, he drove off onto the road.
Amidst the ride, Avelina couldn’t help but probe, "Draven, what type of dress am I getting?"
"We are not getting any random dress, silly. It has to be specially sewn. Designers specifically and I have the perfect dress in my mind. Although if you do not want that, we could get you whatever you may want," Draven responded, his eyes fixed on the road ahead of them.
Avelina smiled, shaking her head. "No, of course not. I don’t have any in mind. If there is one you think would be perfect, then that is okay. I do want you to make the choice after all."
Draven glimpsed her. He reached over his arm, wrapping it around her neck, and letting her rest her head on his shoulder. He began to softly caress her hair.
Avelina frantically fluttered her eyes. The gesture came out of the blue and she had no idea how to react. All she could do was simply relax and enjoy the gentle action.
Draven finally slowed down the car, seeming to have arrived at his destination. He turned off the engine and glanced at Avelina only to realize that she was asleep. When? He wondered, unable to tell when she had fallen asleep.
"Avelina..." He tenderly tapped her cheek to wake her up.
Avelina scratched her neck, yawning. She blinked her lengthy lashes apart and gradually lifted her head to look at Draven who was peering at her.
"You slept off..." Draven cackled.
Avelina stretched her body, grunting. "I did?" She rubbed her eyes and tapped her cheeks a few times to completely wake herself up.
Draven ruffled her hair, amused by her behavior. He stepped out of the car, walked over to the other side, and opened the door for her.
"Come," he said to her while extending his big hand for her.
Avelina grabbed his hand and got out of the car. She staggered a bit, hinting at her weariness.
Draven shut the door and grabbed hold of her. "Are you tired?"
"Mhm." Avelina nodded. "I want to sleep."
"Ahh, I see." Draven slightly nodded.
"Well, I am sorry, okay? It is just that I cannot do this in the morning. Sleeping time difference. So...just hold on for a little bit for me, okay?" He began to run his fingers through her hair, wanting to give her a little comfort.
Avelina took a deep breath, mumbling. "Okay, I’ll try."
Draven chuckled, cupping her plump cheeks in his palms. "Allow me to carry you. I believe you’ll feel less tired if I do so." Without waiting for a response from her, he adjusted her coat and lifted her into his arms, letting her wrap her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck.
Thanks to the heavens her dress was elastic, thus making things easy.
"Relax," Draven’s tone was barely audible. He rested her head on his shoulder, allowing her hot breath to fan his neck.
He circled her body with his arms and approached the sprawling building that dealt with different sorts of designs.
Draven advanced toward the glass door and as soon as it opened automatically, he stepped inside.
His aura was enough to alert every single customer within the building of his presence. They quickly turned around and at the sight of him, their eyes broadened in fear. They hurriedly lowered their heads, the ladies dipping a bit in curtsy.
The sort of terror they felt from this man was something most of them who had met the king never even felt from him. Adding to the rumors that have been circulating about him made things even worse.
But Draven couldn’t care less. In his world, only Avelina existed and she was the only one he could pay attention to. The rest were dead plants to him and they technically do not matter at all to him. As for the rumors, he doesn’t care even one bit and this they were aware of.
"Who is that in his arms?" one of the customers whispered to their acquaintance, probing.
