A Game Of Chess With A Vampire -
Chapter 217: Maybe, Just Maybe
Chapter 217: Maybe, Just Maybe
Draven gradually began to lean in, as though wanting to kiss her. Indeed, that was his intention, however, before he could, he fell unconscious on top of Avelina, burying his face in her neck. His lips were only able to gently graze against hers enough for her to feel it within her soul. No matter how little the touch was, it shook something in her.
Avelina wanted more than just that. She needed more than just a gentle graze.
She stared at the ceiling, listening to her racing, thumping heart that was pounding in her ears.
She lifted her hand, touching her lips. At the moment, she did not care that this man’s whole weight was on her. She could only feel the aftermath of his lips against hers.
How would it feel if he actually kissed her? Not just any kiss, but passionately like she wanted. The sort of kiss that would leave her begging and seeking a second of breath. The type that would have her panting heavily, falling into his arms in exhaustion!
Their kiss from the moment they met was emotionless and bland. She felt nothing, and so did he. But this time around, it was...different. She felt something, and she wanted to explore and feel more.
She wanted his hand wrapped around her neck and his lips pressed against hers. She yearned for that heated moment with him because he was the only one that she wanted it from. Her eyes alone begged for it, but the man in question was someone she could not possibly notice. It would only be a miracle if he did.
A soft breath of disappointment fled her nose, and she shut her eyes, not wanting to think too far. She pushed his weight off her with a lot of effort and stood up to hurry into the bathroom.
There, she sat on the floor, her knees curled up to her chest and her face buried in her arms.
"I want him, don’t I?"
"You’re stupid. Avelina..." she whispered to herself. "How could you? Why would you desire him? This was not your goal. This was not your goal at all!" She scolded herself inwardly, helpless. She thought this feeling would go away—she wanted it to go away, but it was stuck right there with her.
This man had stolen a part of her that she was not even sure she would be able to get back. She cannot explain those feelings, as it was something she had never felt for someone or felt with someone else before.
Avelina lifted her head and slapped her cheek a few times, enough not to hurt herself.
"Please snap out of it, Avelina. You cannot feel this way! You must not feel this way! He is not human, please!" She clutched her chest, lowering her head to stare at the floor. "He is not human like you."
"It is a sin. You’ll be condemned if you desire him or his kind, so please... stop." She tightly shut her eyes, begging for the feelings to be taken away. She wished to feel different as soon as she woke up the next morning.
One thing she was sure of was that humans like her would never accept intimacy with vampires or any other kinds of creatures different from them. But especially vampires. They were enemies only able to exist in the same world due to a peace treaty.
If she had anything to do with Draven now, when he finally frees her, how would she face her kind? Wouldn’t her family disown her completely when she returns? They would scorn her for doing something no other human had ever done.
"Hahaha..." Avelina laughed to herself, cynical.
"Maybe, just maybe...I should distance myself. I do not even know exactly what it is that I feel, but...I have to get rid of it." A soft breath fled her nose, and she stood up from the floor.
She walked to the sink and scooped a palmful of the running water, splashing her face with it. She turned off the tap and left the bathroom.
Avelina approached the bed, but instead of lying on the bed, she moved over to sleep on the soft sofa, not even bothering to cover herself with a duvet.
....
Early the next morning, Draven turned on the bed before rubbing his temple. He sat up on the bed and glanced beside him for Avelina, but he didn’t see her.
This caused a frown to appear on his forehead.
"Avelina?" He looked around the room, and his eyes stopped on the couch where he saw her lying. He tilted his head, confused as to why she was lying on the sofa instead of the bed. This left him a bit apprehensive, so he got out of bed and walked over to the sofa.
Draven squatted down and reached over with his hand to remove the strands of hair that covered her face.
"Avelina..." he called her name in a gentle tone.
Avelina grumbled, adjusting to lay much more comfortably on the sofa. Her arms were wrapped around her body as though she were cold.
Draven tapped her cheek, attempting to wake her up. He had no idea why she was asleep on the couch, but that was not okay. The bed was much more comfortable.
"Avelina." He shook her body.
Avelina furrowed her brows as though someone being woken up from a beauty sleep. She grunted and blinked her large eyes open. She turned her head, and at the instant glimpse of Draven, who was staring at her, she flinched up quickly, standing on the couch and accidentally falling over onto the floor.
"Ow," she mumbled in pain.
Draven immediately rushed over to her. He wrapped his fingers around her small waist, lifting her completely off the ground. "Are you okay?" His voice was tinged with concern.
Avelina lifted her hand, touching her sore nose. "Mhm, I’m okay." She gave a slight nod. "Can you please put me down?"
