Chapter 208: How Much Will You Buy It?
When a man lies, it could be determined by those who actually observe the body language of an individual.
The middle-aged man nodded. "Je m’appelle, Gauche. It’s very nice to meet you too."
"May I know what business you have come with?"
Pierre glanced at Ava. He took a deep breath and began to explain, "We have come with a deal and to make an exchange."
"Oh..." Mr. Gauche adjusted the glasses that rested on the bridge of his nose. "And what have you come with? Potion?"
Pierre shook his head. "No. Medicine. An elixir."
"Hoho, may I see?" The sudden expression of excitement that appeared on Mr. Gauche’s face hinted at his obsession with medicines and elixirs. He was far more interested in them compared to his fascination with potions.
Ava grabbed the Venin d’ombré from the pocket of her dress. She handed it over to Guache. "Please be careful with it." She looked worried. This was because she knew how hard Lucien had tried while producing it. Not only that, but the poison was their sole weapon.
Mr. Gauche began to examine the poison. His eyes were gleaming with delight, which gave Pierre and Ava a bit of hope.
"Hoho! Such quality! Such beauty! I have never seen anything like this before. It sometimes appears invisible before my eyes—it’s as though I’m hallucinating," Mr. Gauche praised, looking satisfied. He slightly opened the tip of the bottle to smell it.
Ava frowned. Should he be doing that? She wondered.
"Oh, mon dieu! It possesses such a calming smell. The lovely scent of petals could put one to sleep and relax the structures of one’s body. The smell alone is healing! Mon dieu! This is good!" Mr. Gauche’s excitement was beyond anticipated.
Ava and Pierre glanced at each other in confusion. What exactly had Lucien done to the poison? The last time they recalled, it had no such pleasing smell. Did she coat it?
Mr. Gauche cleared his throat and straightened up to stare at them. "Well, you have fine medicine right here, but...I do not desire to buy it."
"What?!" Pierre appeared confused and appalled.
Mr. Gauche’s expression was serious.
"Do not get me wrong, your product is a very fine one, but...give me a reason why I should buy it." He raised his brows at them.
I have never seen such fine healing medicine. I’m sure they are unaware of its attributes. Amateurs! I’m simply going to make them think it’s worth noting and buy it for a low price. Haha.... Mr. Gauche laughed inwardly. His expression belied the conniving thoughts he had within.
Ava glanced at Pierre and shifted her attention to him.
"This is a healing medicine with good attributes. Of course, you should buy it." She smiled at him. As someone whose ability was to sweet talk people, her words needn’t be much because no matter how little she said, someone whose intent was directed at her would definitely behave as she wanted, and Mr. Gauche was no exception.
"I should buy it?" Mr. Guache flickered his eyes as if in a daze. He glanced at the Venin d’ombre and asked, "How much will you sell it for?"
"How much will you buy it?" Ava queried.
Mr. Guache responded, "A thousand euros." He was speaking as though under a spell.
Ava smiled at him. "It’s worth more than that, Mr. Gauche."
"Ten thousand euros," she suggested, her voice carrying a mix of resignation and determination.
Mr. Gauche’s eyes twitched. Why can’t he say no? It was as though he had no control over his mouth. What was this girl doing to him?
"Fine! Ten thousand euros it is." He agreed and made the transfer.
Ava smiled at him and left with Pierre. Mr. Gauche stared at the poison and smiled. "I may have paid a lot, but this is a great deal. I might as well auction it." He chuckled.
.....
Ava pulled the door of the car open and stepped in with Pierre.
A deep breath fled from Pierre as he calmed down. "That’s such a relief," he uttered, causing Ava to look at him.
"What’s wrong?" Ava asked, a bit concerned.
Pierre smiled to himself. "I honestly didn’t think we would be able to pull it off. I was actually worried, haha. I wondered what would happen back there if your ability failed to work on that man," he replied.
Ava thought for a moment and chuckled abruptly. "You have got something wrong, Pierre."
"Huh?" Pierre glanced at her.
"Um, we didn’t succeed because of my ability." Ava shook her head at him.
Pierre furrowed his brows. What was she talking about? He was very sure that they had indeed made it because of her ability.
Ava laughed in amusement.
"Pierre, that man was genuinely interested in that poison," she clarified. "He just wasn’t willing to pay too much and had it in mind to dupe us because he thought we were amateurs. That was when I had to use my ability to make him pay more. I didn’t want us to waste any more time there."
"Oh..." Seeming to have finally grasped an understanding of what really happened back there, Pierre slowly nodded. Their mission wasn’t just a success—it was a huge one.
"Haha." He cackled to himself and started the engine to drive off.
Ava pulled her phone out of her bag. She dialed Draven’s number and waited as it rang.
Draven answered [Ava].
"Don, the mission was a success." Ava had a look of excitement on her face while she reported.
One could hear Draven’s sigh of relief from the other side of the phone.
[That is great. Good job, both you and Pierre. I’m glad you are both safe]
"Merci, Don." Ava’s eyes gleamed with joy before she hung up the call. Finally, she can exhale in relief.
No one could understand how pressed and apprehensive she had been about this mission. She was not willing to be the one to ruin the mission.
——
Avelina, who was seated opposite Draven at a table, crossed her legs. Before them was a chessboard, and it looked like they were in the middle of playing.
"Draven," she called. Her eyes hinted that she had something to ask.
