A Game Of Chess With A Vampire
Chapter 192: S-sit?

Chapter 192: S-sit?

Sitting beside Avelina, who was reading, Draven averted his attention from the book the second his phone rang. He glanced at the screen to see Loui’s name.

He answered. "Hello."

[Bonjour, Don]

"Is there a problem?" Draven asked.

[No. But there is good news]

"Oh...go ahead." Draven was waiting for a response from him.

[The poison has been completed. Lucien is through with it]

"What!" Draven was obviously surprised. Didn’t she say she would need at least a week or two? How could she have possibly finished even before it clocked a week in which he had given her?

Loui’s cackle can be heard from the other side of the phone. [She’s full of surprises]

Draven gave a nod. "Indeed. This is good. I will get on with the map. It will be sent over to you guys once I am done]

[Alright Don] Loui hung up the call.

Avelina, who was curious, looked at Draven. "What is going on?"

"Will you be alright if I tell you?" Draven asked. "I will not want you to try and change my mind either, so refrain from doing that, okay?"

Avelina blinked her eyes, perplexed. What exactly could it be for him to even ask her not to change his mind?

Draven let out a soft breath and proceeded to enlighten her.

"I’m going to kill Natasha."

Avelina was surprised that she wasn’t sure if she heard him right. How could he talk of killing someone so...casually?

"What?"

"Yes." Draven nodded his head at her. "She will have to pay for what she did. I cannot let her get away with it after what she has done to you. Besides, leaving her alive would only be trouble. She is like a ticking bomb, and I know she will try to pull another one of her stupid antics. I’m tired of it, and I will not allow her to hurt you any further."

He folded his arms. "You may not agree with me, but that’s just fine. I’m never going to change my mind."

Avelina was quiet for a few seconds before exhaling.

"What makes you think that I would try to change your mind?" she queried.

Draven glanced at her. "I’m not sure. I just felt that you would, considering how you reacted last time in Ryan’s case."

Avelina flipped to the next page of her book.

"That’s different, Draven. I hate Natasha."

"Why would I change your mind to stop you from doing the same thing someone tried to do to me?"

Draven blinked, immediately glimpsing her.

"I would never change your mind on this," Avelina said. "As a matter of fact, I do actually want her to die. She has to suffer, you know. After all, if you hadn’t saved me, I would have died, no?"

Draven nodded at her. "You are right."

"So then, why would I change your mind?" Avelina asked.

"Draven, listen, I may not exactly be like you, but that does not mean that I am a pushover. Natasha has crossed her boundaries many times with me, and she deserves it. Every action carries heavy consequences, as you said, so yes, she has to face what she put me through, and unlike me, who survived, her case will be different because she will actually... die." She shrugged.

Draven, who was gazing at her, was obviously stunned.

"You’re not in a good mood, are you?"

"No." Avelina shook her head.

Draven stood up from the sofa. "Come." He reached out his hand for her.

Avelina averted her gaze from the book and grabbed his hand. Draven pulled her up to her feet and walked to the table.

"I want to draw a map." He sat down on the chair.

"A map? What map?" Avelina was curious.

Draven tapped his lap. "Sit." His voice was warm and inviting.

Avelina fluttered her eyes, shocked. "Ye! S-sit?"

"Yes." Draven looked at her. "I want you to watch while I draw it. I will explain my plans to you along the way." His face was filled with sincerity.

"Oh." Avelina cleared her throat. She hesitated for a moment before reluctantly sitting down on his lap.

As she settled onto his lap, Draven wrapped his right hand around her stomach and helped her adjust properly on his lap.

Avelina’s cheeks flushed a delicate shade of pink, her heart racing rapidly. She couldn’t help but fidget, her nervous energy manifesting in the way she twisted a strand of her hair around her finger.

Draven, who noticed, glanced at her. "Are you alright?" He grabbed her chin, tilting her head up to have her look at him.

BADUM!

Avelina’s heart dropped to her stomach. Her face turned into an even darker shade of pink, and she tightened her fist, trying her best to compose herself. Their faces were just two inches apart.

Immediately avoiding eye contact with him, she pulled her chin away, lowering her head to stare at her sweaty hands.

"Avelina, your heart is beating a bit too fast. Why? Are you okay?" Draven inquired. His tone held deep concern. He had never heard her heart beat this fast before.

Avelina cleared her throat and took deep breaths to calm herself.

"I-I’m fine. Do not worry."

"Are you sure?" Draven was still apprehensive. He did not need to be told that it was not normal for her heart to thump that fast.

"Mhm." Avelina gave a nod. "I’m fine. I-I mean it." She tightened her hold on her dress.

"Okay." Draven spread the blank sheet on the table and grabbed the pen with his left hand.

He began to enlighten her on his plan while drawing on the sheet.

Avelina was not even sure if she was properly hearing him, but one thing for sure was that his voice clouded her mind. It was not like she had never been this close to him before, but there was something about the way his jaw was leaned against her shoulder, his hot breath that was fanning against her collarbone.

His lazy eyes that were fixed on what he was doing and the way his gentle deep voice rang in her ears.
