Chapter 190: Why Did You Do That?!
Draven continued.
"If, really, you did not consider him a friend, you never should have pulled him along in the first place or done all those nice things for him. He may smile constantly, but he is in fact very lonely, and what you just did made things worse for him."
"I may not understand emotions as well as you all do, but at least with common sense, I can tell how much it would hurt if someone believed they finally had a friend, only for that one person to crush it."
"Don’t do that. It is not right. You have cut him off now and I know you did it because Lucien was with you. If she wasn’t, you would have kept going." His tone sounded quite displeased.
"I do not care if you are friends with him—it is your business, actually. However, what I do not want is for you to merge both your friendship and our business together. Keep your friendship with him separate and our business separate, do you understand?" he asked.
Olive slowly nodded his head. When was the last time Don spoke to him in that sort of annoyed tone? Probably never. He hasn’t even scolded him in such a long time.
"You are sensible, Olive, so I do not need to talk much. If you still consider him a friend, fix what you messed up, and if not, never speak to him again and let him be. It is up to you." Draven stood up from the chair and stuffed his hands into his coat.
"Don’t ever hurt him." He began to walk away, leaving Olive with his head sloped in guilt.
Lucien cringed. "Yeah, not to worsen the situation, but you were really harsh with what you said to him."
"You!" Olive glared at her.
"Olive," Pierre called him. "How could you not tell us about this?"
"Yeah." Loui nodded.
"Why would you hide such a thing from us? Wasn’t there supposed to be no secret between all of us?"
Olive took a deep breath.
"I just did not want to deal with the reactions you all would have."
"Tsk tsk." Ava clicked her tongue while shaking her head.
"You guys should take it easy on him."
"Convenu," Prince said, standing up from his chair. He walked toward Olive and gave him a pat on the shoulder before strolling away.
Wanting to be alone for a few hours, Olive stood up. "I’m sorry for not telling you guys. It was not my intention." Without waiting for a response from them, he turned around and returned upstairs to his room.
Everyone glanced at each other and sighed.
"Tsk! What a complicated situation." Ava shook her head.
...
Olive strolled to the window of his room and stood there. He stared at the afternoon sky and heaved a deep, sadistic sigh.
He never really thought of it, but he indeed messed up. How could he have said such a thing to him? Even calling him pitiful.
"Shit!" He pinched between his brows.
He has never for once thought Valentine was pitiful in such a way, and he really did help him genuinely because he wanted to, not because he looked pitiful or something. To be honest, now that he thinks about it, he believes he reacted in such a way because he didn’t want Lucien to get the wrong idea.
Valentine was his friend, and he already accepted that. He could not understand why he reacted so instinctively and said all those harsh things to him.
A deep grunt of annoyance exited his throat, and he walked over to sit down on the sofa. He threw his head back with his eyes shut as though beginning to think.
——
Draven stepped down from the car.
He slammed the door shut and threw the key into the pocket of his coat as he began to stride into the mansion.
He walked straight to the dining room, able to tell that Avelina was there due to her scent. He opened the door, entered, and halted at the sight of Avelina, who was sitting close to Valentine discussing something. BOOKS!!
For reasons he cannot fathom, the sight of this irked him. Yes, he did not like it even one bit. As a matter of fact, the urge to kick Valentine miles away was suddenly overwhelming him.
Able to keep his composure, he walked over to them and stood a bit in between them. With an emotionless face, he pushed Valentine, including the chair he was seated on, quite far away from Avelina.
Valentine flickered his eyes with his mouth agape. "Brother..."
"Don’t be so close to my wife; it annoys me. Five feet away!" It almost looked as though Draven were glaring at him.
"Ah..." Valentine blinked his eyes, not sure if he was dreaming or not. There is no way... Draven could possibly be jealous just because he sat near Avelina, right? No, why would he even be jealous in the first place?
"Frère, why?" Valentine asked with a bit of an amused smile on his face.
Draven frowned. "Because she is my wife. Also, I will slap that smirk off your face. Get out!!"
Again, in disbelief, Valentine widened his eyes. This was the first time that Draven had ever spoken in such a way. With obvious emotion as well! He did not sound emotionless at all.
"Wow..." Valentine laughed and stood up from the chair.
"My apologies. I shall stay five feet away, like you asked." He began to exit the room, smiling heartily.
"Draven!" The minute he was gone, Avelina groaned with her arms folded. "Why did you do that?"
Draven turned around and sat down on the chair close to her. He laid his head on his right arm and began to stare at her face. Gently, he grabbed her hand with his free hand.
"You were discussing books with him." His tone was once again deep and soft.
"Yes, I was." Avelina nodded. "Is something wrong with that?" she questioned, genuinely curious.
Draven sighed as though disappointed. "No, nothing is wrong with that. It’s just that you only do that with me. It is quite irksome to see you do that with someone else. Also, I did not like his closeness. I should be the only one that is close to you, no?
