A Game Of Chess With A Vampire -
Chapter 189: For What?!
Chapter 189: For What?!
Valentine was isolated and introverted at the same time that Draven found it hard to comprehend what sort of lifestyle he had. His behavior made him seem quite social, but one would be surprised to realize that he was in fact a lonely boy who had nobody.
"I see." Draven turned around and left the room.
Valentine peeked at Avelina, who was still standing in the room, peering at him. He sat up in bed, perplexed. "Sister-in-law?"
"Are you okay?" Avelina inquired.
Valentine shrugged. "I guess so."
"Did Olive really say you were not his friend?" Avelina further probed.
Valentine took a few moments before nodding.
"He did. But it’s okay. He made me realize that it was actually my fault. I kind of forced it on him, even though he said no a few times. He did not want to be my friend at all." He was smiling, despite the fact that he was quite hurt.
But Avelina noticed, so she asked, "It hurts, doesn’t it? To be rejected like that."
Valentine blinked and took a deep breath. He nodded his head, replying, "It does."
"Well, I know how you feel." Avelina smiled at him. "I have also once had a friend, but in my case, she denied me. I still cannot tell if she meant it or not, but it did hurt so much. Haha." She chuckled softly.
"Oh..." Valentine appeared quite surprised.
"So what did you do?"
Avelina shrugged. "Nothing. I simply let it go. You cannot force someone to be friends with you or do anything for you, not even change for you. If they say no, you just have to accept it and move on. That’s what I did."
Valentine slightly nodded. "Is that so? I see, I see."
"Well, do not worry. I’m perfectly fine. A bit hurt, but I will definitely get over it."
"Okay." Avelina offered a charming smile. She stood up and walked out of the room, shutting the door.
The bright expression on Valentine’s face instantly vanished, and he lay down on the bed on his side. He had nothing to say, but a lot was going on in his mind.
....
Avelina hurried after Draven, who was making his way out of the mansion. She grabbed the hem of his coat, stopping him.
Draven halted and looked at her. "Is everything okay?"
"Yes." Avelina nodded at him. "I just wanted to know where you are going."
Draven replied. "To see Loui and the rest of them. Don’t worry, I won’t take too long. Once I return, we will go back to the royal mansion, okay?"
Avelina gave a nod.
Draven peered at her for a few seconds before pulling her into a warm hug, and wrapping her in his coat.
"I have told the maids. They will feed you in a few minutes. So fill your belly and eat as much as you want!"
"Mhm, hm, I will." Avelina nodded, taking a deep breath. She watched him leave and turned around to proceed to the dining room. If she were to be honest, it would be really great if they could stay here rather than at the royal mansion. She had never felt so at peace as she does now.
——
Olive, whose wound had been treated, blinked his eyes open. He stared at the ceiling and took a deep breath.
"I’m alive..." With a lot of struggle, he sat up on the bed and winced at the sudden pain he felt at his sides. His ribs had been healed, but they were still hurting badly.
Olive got out of the bed and walked to the door. He opened the door to leave the room, but he came face-to-face with Lucien, who was about to enter his room.
He furrowed his brows at her. "What are you...what are you doing here?"
"Don is downstairs. He wants to see you," Lucien replied.
Olive didn’t need to be told for him to know the reason why. He facepalmed himself and let out a tired whiff.
He slipped his feet into his slippers and began to proceed downstairs with Lucien. "Don’t walk so close to me," he abruptly said.
This caused Lucien’s expression to darken. Not sure what to do as she was angered by his words, she pushed him, causing him to bump into the wall.
"Fuck you!" She gave him the middle finger and stormed off.
Olive hissed in pain and ran his fingers through his lush, pleasantly messy hair. Upon arriving downstairs, he walked to the meeting table and took his seat on the empty chair.
Draven’s gaze was fixed on him.
Olive knew exactly why he was staring at him. Don was not one who talked much, but his stare alone said everything.
"I’m sorry," he apologized.
"For what?" Draven tilted his head.
Olive was confused, so he glanced at him. Everyone’s gazes were fixed on him, and they were perplexed, unable to tell what was going on. Only Lucien was aware.
Draven deeply exhaled. "I’m sure that there is something you would like to tell everyone. Go ahead."
Olive fidgeted with his hands. He took a few moments before mustering up the courage to speak.
"I got involved with Don’s younger brother, Valentine," he said.
"What?!" they exclaimed, except Lucien.
"Why?" Loui questioned.
Olive pinched between his brows.
"It is not what you think. It was a mistake and a situation that I had no control over. But you guys do not have to worry. He and I are not friends!"
"Really?" Draven asked with raised brows.
Everyone shifted their attention to him. Olive looked at him as though he were clueless.
"He is not your friend?" Draven further probed.
Olive slowly shook his head. "No, he is not." He has already cut him off, so indeed, he was not a friend to him.
Draven took a long, deep breath. "Olive, listen, Valentine is still my little brother, and he’s good. I may not trust him, but that does not make him a bad guy either. It is not enough reason for you to hurt him—you had no right to do that."
