Chapter 167: Are You Crying?!

Avelina abruptly grabbed the collar of his shirt, pulling him closer.

"I want all of them! All. Of. Them!" she emphasized.

"Okay." Draven chuckled.

He had Santino run off to get them. Avelina, on the other hand, was impatiently waiting.

"For someone who has eaten, you are really..." Draven was not even able to complete his words. He did not expect her to be this excited.

Avelina glanced at him. "It’s desserts, Draven. Haha." she cackled.

Santino returned shortly, and as Avelina received the box of cookies and the rest from him, her eyes lit up with sparkles.

Draven, who scooped a spoonful of his crème brulee, fixed his attention on her. He was subconsciously smiling at how exhilarated she appeared to be.

Avelina rubbed her hands together in excitement and opened the box of cookies. As she took a bite, she shut her eyes, savoring the taste.

"So good!" she exclaimed and opened the other boxes to have a taste of each of them.

Draven walked over to the bed. He sat down opposite her and grabbed his handkerchief.

"Stay still," he said to her.

Avelina halted eating and stared at him. "Why? What’s wrong?"

"You have chocolate all over your mouth," Draven replied.

"Really?" Avelina tried to use her tongue to lick the chocolate.

Draven could not help but laugh softly. "Let me get it off for you." He began to wipe off the chocolate stains around her mouth and the ones that touched her nose.

Avelina flickered her large eyes. Her gaze was fixated on him, and while chewing on the bite of the cookie she took, she could not look away from him.

"Do you want some?" she suddenly asked as she shifted the cookie closer to his mouth.

Draven peeked at the half-eaten cookie and glanced at her. "It’s yours, and you should not—"

"I want to share it with you," Avelina interrupted him with a smile that reached her ears.

What seemed like surprise flashed in Draven’s eyes. He furrowed his brows before looking at the cookie again. "Are you...sure? You do not mind?"

"Um..." Avelina blinked her eyes, confused. "Yes, I am."

"Oh...alright." Draven smiled and ate the cookie.

Avelina frowned at him, sensing that something was off. "Draven."

"Mhm?" Draven looked at her.

"Why did you seem surprised? Is something the problem?" Avelina probed.

Draven shook his head at her. "No. This is just the first time someone has ever shared something with me willingly since I was a kid. It made me think it was maybe wrong to sometimes want someone to share with you. I don’t really know. It was just surprising to see you smiling while..." He went quiet.

"Oh yes, I got extremely wealthy too, so that I can get whatever I desire for myself. I do not want anyone to share with me because they might not actually want to, and it may just be a pretense."

Avelina was at a loss for words. Sometimes, the way this man grew up makes her wonder if he lived in a completely different world. How could a father mess up his child’s life to the point where he grew up to become so different and think in a way so...broken? He must have been so isolated even from his siblings.

She smiled, saying to him, "Well, it’s not odd to share with you. You bought it for me after all."

"It does not matter." Draven shook his head at her. "I got it for you, making it yours. You can choose to share and choose not to."

Avelina pinched between her brows.

"I understand. But just know that I’ll always share with you, okay? Pinky promise." She brought out her pinky with a big smile.

Draven gazed at her and lowered his head to look at her pinky finger. He slowly beamed and interlocked his pinky with hers.

"I really like this pinky of a thing," he said.

Avelina giggled and plopped down onto the bed to lay on her back. "I feel so full," she grunted.

Draven glanced at her bloated belly and laughed.

"Why are you laughing?" Avelina peeked at him with a raised brow.

Draven pointed at her stomach. "You’re so bloated. It’s cute."

Avelina touched her stomach and deeply sighed. "I think I’m going to puke."

"Why?" Draven’s bright expression switched to a concerned one.

"Too much sugar!" Avelina groaned. "Can you take me to the bathroom?"

"Is it that bad?" Draven asked. He was getting more worried.

"Yes." Avelina nodded.

"I feel like this when I consume too much sugar."

Draven crinkled his brows. "Why didn’t you tell me? Why did you even eat so much?"

"Because... because the more I ate, the more I wanted," Avelina replied.

Draven let out a soft breath and lifted her off the bed and into his arms. "You will not get sick, right?"

"Maybe..." Avelina shrugged.

Draven frowned.

"If you do get sick, I will never get you dessert again."

Avelina’s eyes widened, and with a swift motion, she jumped down from his arms.

"I’m suddenly so fine, thank you." She was smiling.

Draven had a dumbfounded look on his face.

"Are you kidding me?"

"No." Avelina shook her head. "I am totally—"

She quickly dashed into the bathroom and went down on her knees beside the toilet.

Draven hurried after her and knelt beside her. He was more than afraid and confused. Did he make a mistake by getting those desserts for her? But she liked them and neither did she say something was wrong.

Avelina turned her head to look at him while breathing heavily. Her large hazel eyes were filled with bubbles of tears.

Draven pulled back, shocked.

"Are you crying? W-w-why?"

Avelina grabbed his hands and cupped it to her chest in a pleading manner. "Draven, I’m sorry." She cried even more.

"Sorry? What are you sorry for? I don’t understand." Draven shook his head at her.

"I didn’t mean to eat a bit too much," Avelina began to explain while crying. "I really didn’t. They just tasted too good, and I couldn’t stop myself." She sniffled.

"I promise, it will not happen again, but please... don’t say that you will never buy desserts again for me." The bubbles of tears in her eyes broke and ran down her cheeks.
