Chapter 159: Draven...?
Chapter 159: Draven...?
Draven pushed the door open and dashed inside.
Santino, who was still beside Avelina, turned his head and glanced at him.
"Young master—"
"What happened? Is she alright?" as he hurried to the bed, he asked.
Santino slowly nodded his head, uncertainty visible in his eyes.
"I am not sure, young master. She started moving frantically and screaming a few moments ago before suddenly calming down. I do not know what is going on."
"Call the doctor!" Draven ordered.
Santino nodded and quickly pulled his phone out to call Mr. Jean. Luckily, Mr. Jean answered.
[Bonsoir, Santino]
"Bonsoir, Mr. Je—"
Draven snatched the phone from him. "Hello," he said.
[Hello, Your Highness. You sound quite panicked. Is everything okay?]
"No! Nothing is okay. I need you to confirm something for me," Draven responded.
[Hm? What is it?]
"Earlier today, a talisman was planted to murder my wife much quicker. Someone told me that once I take out the talisman and destroy it, she will be alright. Is that true?" Draven asked. "I have done that, and I want to confirm, just to be sure."
Mr. Jean was quiet for a few moments before abruptly speaking, [Yes, it is true. The moment the culprit chose this method, the other method was immediately deactivated and canceled. You, by destroying it, have saved your wife. She will be just fine]
Mr. Jean could immediately hear Draven’s heavy sigh of relief. He was taking continuous, deep breaths, as though he had been holding his breaths for a while.
[I hope you are alright now, Your Highness. You no longer have to worry. Your wife is okay, and she will wake up in the morning, fine and well. That’s guaranteed]
Draven glanced over at Avelina. "She is very pale. Will she really be okay? Her body is really cold too."
[Yes, she will be fine. The paleness and coldness are signs that she was near to the Grim Reaper. Hmm...very close to death, if that is more fitting. Humans turn pale and their skin becomes cool to the touch when they die. That should already give you an explanation of why your wife had little to no life left in her. Meaning that if you hadn’t been any quicker, she would have died]
An unknown glint flashed in Draven’s eyes, and he lowered his head, taking a deep breath. Does this mean that if he had chosen to find Valentine first, Avelina would have slipped off his finger? He would have...lost her?
Unwilling to think or even imagine that further, Draven shook his head.
"Merci!" He gave the phone to Santino and dismissed him.
As soon as Santino shut the door, he sat down on the bed beside Avelina and stared at her.
"I have never felt such fear before," he mumbled to himself and grabbed Avelina’s hand. It was less cold compared to before.
To keep her warm, Draven got into bed beside her. He encircled her in his embrace and buried her face in his shoulder. As though to lend her comfort, he began to stroke her back.

Early morning the next day.
Avelina blinked her eyes open. She yawned and proceeded to stretch her aching muscles, but that turned out to be impossible as her movement was restricted by something.
She batted her lashes in confusion with a frown on her face. She tried to move, but the instant she felt someone’s hot breath against the skin on her neck, she broadened her eyes.
Draven? It was, but now did she realize that she was locked in his hold. What happened? Why was he holding her so tightly?
"Draven..." she groaned, not able to break out of his grip. She can’t even move an inch.
Has this man always been this strong? Or have I just never noticed? He won’t budge! Avelina’s brows furrowed, and she gave up trying, grumbling.
"Draven...?" She spoke his name in a low voice.
"Hmm? Are you okay?" Draven let go of her and pulled away to stare at her.
Avelina exhaled and raised her brows at him.
"You’ve been awake all this while!"
"Yes," Draven confirmed.
Avelina scrunched her face in disbelief. "Then why didn’t you let go?"
"Because it was amusing seeing you struggle like that." Draven chuckled as he sat up on the bed.
Avelina sat on the bed as well and gazed at him. She was not sure if she was seeing right, but there was this soft speck of light flickering in Draven’s eyes. It was something she had never glimpsed before.
"Draven, is something wrong?" she asked.
Draven shook his head at her. He smiled and patted her head.
Avelina frowned. She could not understand what was going on. "Draven, if something is wrong, please te—"
Draven wrapped her up in his big embrace and began to stroke her hair.
"You are fine now, Avelina."
"What do you mean?" Avelina crumpled her brows, trying to comprehend what he meant. Hasn’t she always been fine, that is, exempt from the current incidents?
Draven let out a soft breath and began to explain, "You will no longer go through the pain anymore. I saved you like I promised you that I would, so you are fine now."
Avelina fluttered her lashes, and it took a moment before she processed Draven’s words. The moment they sank in, she dilated her pupils and hollered, "What!"
Draven was startled. He immediately pulled back and stared at her face.
"Are you serious? I don’t have to go through that anymore? I am completely fine now?" Avelina was in utter disbelief.
Draven nodded at her.
"Yes, you are perfectly fine now, just like before."
A smile slowly emerged on Avelina’s lips, and she immediately jumped down from the bed.
She knew she always felt very tired every morning, even to the point that she could not walk, so if she was fine, then she must be able to do so.
She stood on her feet with a wide smile on her lips and proceeded to walk, however, as though her legs were jelly, she fell to the floor, face flat before she could even make it to three steps.
"Ouch!" She hissed a bit in pain.
