Chapter 154: So, What Is It?
Chapter 154: So, What Is It?
Ryan sat at the table in his room with his legs crossed
A knock suddenly came at the door.
"Come in." His voice was rather husky, hinting at his weariness.
The door was pushed open, and a young man walked in. He was quite bulky, with dark hair and expressionless brown eyes.
"I have returned, young master," he said.
Ryan averted his gaze from the book in his hand and glanced at the young man.
"Lancelot." He had a look of anticipation glistening in his eyes. "What did you find out?"
Lancelot let out a soft breath before slowly shaking his head. "I found nothing, young master."
"What do you mean?" A deep frown emerged on Ryan’s face.
Lancelot began to explain, "I did monitor her as you asked me to, young master, but nothing came of it. She has been in her room mostly and has not really made any suspicious move."
"That’s impossible," Ryan refuted.
"I know my wife. She is definitely up to something. Are you sure that you monitored her as you should? You didn’t get distracted and let her out of your sight, did you?"
"No, young master." Lancelot shook his head. "Although, there is something fishy that I found out."
Ryan’s eyes narrowed vehemently. "What is it?
Lancelot began to relay his report, "Recently, it seems that my lady has been leaving the royal mansion frequently and she does so only in the mornings. Not only that, but it has appeared weird that she only allows her closest chauffeur to drive her, no one else."
"She only leaves in the morning?" Ryan deeply frowned.
"Yes, young master," Lancelot confirmed.
Ryan smirked. "I knew it! He stood up from his chair. "Did you find out where she has been going?"
Lancelot shook his head.
"No, young master." Then he proceeded to say, "Why don’t you simply read her thoughts, young master? You don’t have to go through all these troubles."
"I cannot." Ryan shook his head.
"Huh?" Lancelot was stunned. "Why?"
Ryan exhaled deeply. "She has been blocking me from hearing her thoughts. I do not know what is going on in her mind, and it’s really bothering me. I could have figured everything out if she wasn’t preventing me from moving in." His tone was filled with frustration.
"Oh..." Lancelot was flabbergasted. If she was willing to block her own partner from hearing her thoughts, then she must be doing something terrible—something she does not want anyone to know about, not even her spouse.
Ryan balled his hands into tight fists and looked at Lancelot.
"I want you to keep an eye on her, do you understand?"
"Yes, young master." Lancelot nodded.
"You are dismissed." Ryan walked over to sit down.
Lancelot turned around and opened the door to leave the room, but he was met face-to-face with none other than Valentine, who had an arrogant smirk on his face.
Lancelot blinked his eyes. That was unexpected. What was the youngest prince doing at his young master’s quarter? He frowned.
"May I pass?" Valentine asked.
Lancelot’s frown deepened. "I do not think you ca—"
"What are you doing here?" Ryan’s voice sounded
Valentine peeked over at him. "Hi, hi, big brother." He was smiling willfully.
Ryan glanced at him. "What do you want?"
Valentine’s expression fell, as though cynical. He asked, "Won’t you even let your little brother in? That is really awful of you, big brother."
Ryan raised his brow at him. He looked over to Lancelot and waved his hand at him. "Let him in."
Lancelot was quite surprised, having not expected his young master to let the youngest prince in.
He glanced at Valentine.
Valentine smiled at him in return. His smile was mocking.
"Out of my way, please." He spoke.
Although reluctant to do so, Lancelot tightened his fist and stepped out of the way.
Valentine walked into the room and slammed the door shut in Lancelot’s face. He strolled over to the table where Ryan sat and took a seat opposite him.
"Hi, hi, grand frère. What are you doing?" His smile was wide and hearty. One could call him deeply innocent at that moment because this was what he looked like on the outside, however, on the inside, he was quite a different case.
Ryan stared at him and furrowed his brows.
"You are not here to be all chummy with me, are you?"
Valentine shrugged. "What if I am? Aren’t you my brother?"
"Pfft!" Ryan resisted the urge to laugh. "As if you see me as one. Drop the act and don’t get on my nerves."
Valentine gasped and touched his chest. "Ouch! That hurts. You are so mean, big brother."
Ryan was starting to get annoyed. He took a deep breath to soothe himself and gazed at Valentine.
"What do you want? Why are you here? If you waste thirty seconds more of my time, you will leave this room."
"Pfft!" Valentine cackled, "Don’t be so temperamental. I am here for a good reason."
"Which is?" Ryan questioned.
Valentine crossed his legs and folded his arms.
"I’m sure that you are aware that your wife has been quite sneaky these days."
"What do you mean by that?" Ryan glowered.
Valentine snickered.
"Don’t play dumb with me, big brother. You know what I am talking about."
Ryan rested back in his chair. His eyes were not friendly. "So what if I do?"
"That is why I am here. Haha, I am aware that you are trying to find out what your wife is doing behind your back. Well, good news! I have a clue." Valentine’s smile widened.
Ryan’s expression turned sour.
"Do not joke with me."
Valentine rolled his eyes at him. "You think I would come all the way to your quarter, just to joke with you? Mon dieu, we are not that close." His face was filled with disgust.
Ryan’s frown turned uglier. "So what is it?"
"Well..." Valentine smiled so widely that his eyes smiled along with him. "Your wife has been paying a visit to a witch recently."
"What?!" Ryan exclaimed. He was not sure if he heard Valentine correctly.
