A Game Of Chess With A Vampire
Chapter 147: M-me?!

Chapter 147: M-me?!

Avelina glanced at her hands and slowly smiled, quite happy with it. It looked much better and no longer frightened her.

"It is good."

Draven ruffled her hair and stood up to his feet. He had the box taken away and asked Avelina, who was gazing at him, "Do you want to eat?"

"No." Avelina shook her head.

"Why?" Draven inquired.

Avelina shrugged. "I don’t feel like it, and I have no appetite either. The thought of eating is making me nauseated."

"Oh..." Draven scowled. He was not okay with it, but he could not force her either. "Then, what do you think of sleeping this morning? You don’t sleep well at night any longer, so I think it might be good if you could."

Avelina smiled at him and got into bed. Draven pulled the duvet over her and turned around to leave, but Avelina grabbed his hand, stopping him.

He glanced at her. "Hmm? Do you want something?"

Avelina shook her head.

"What about you?" she asked. "Won’t you stay with me? I mean, you go to sleep around this time, no?"

Draven replied, saying, "You are right, but I cannot do that today. There is something that I must do."

"Oh..." Avelina’s expression showed her disappointment. She did not want him to go, but Draven could not understand that. He could tell that she was a bit cynical, but he could not grasp the reason why.

"Avelina, is there something you want? If there is, you can tell me, and I will get it for you." Draven could only guess that perhaps she desired something from him.

But Avelina smiled in response.

"No." She let go of his hand and turned to her side before shutting her eyes.

Draven blinked in perplexity. Her mood was off, but why? Was there something that she wanted from him? If there was, why wouldn’t she tell him?

He tilted his head, quite concerned.

"Avelina..." he called her name.

But Avelina did not respond, so he assumed that she might have slept off. Not intending to disturb her, regardless of the fact that he wanted to know what the problem was, he turned around and left the room.

As soon as the door was shut, Avelina lay on her back and opened her eyes to gaze at the ceiling.

What is wrong with me? She scrunched her face, restless.

How could she have possibly gotten so pessimistic just because he was leaving for a while? She really wanted him to stay with her. She craved to have him hold her like he has been doing recently. There was something about it that she loved and yearned for.

The comfort and warmth she felt from it were unexplainable. She could not even understand it herself, but she knew that what she felt around this man was something she would never feel around anyone else. But yet she could not understand nor familiarize herself with it.

She wanted to tell him—to beg him to stay with her, however, she could not seem to do it. She stopped herself, yet she could not help but feel so saddened. She doesn’t even know when he will return, and the loneliness she is currently feeling is drowning her. She wanted and needed him to be near her at all times. She felt so safe with him that each time he was away from her, she just...

Avelina took a deep breath and shut her eyes.

Am I okay? She inwardly questioned herself. Even when I close my eyes, all I see is him.

BADUM!

Her heart thumped in her ears. She clutched her chest and turned to lay on her side. She properly pulled the duvet over herself and hid beneath it.

Maybe it is all an effect of everything that has happened to me lately. Maybe once this is all over, I will be back to normal and feel better again. I think I am just a bit scared, and he is the only one who makes me feel so safe. That is probably the reason why I want him to be so close. It’s the reason why I do not want him to leave and why I want him to hold me...

She deeply sighed and curled herself into a soft ball, cocooning herself with her arms.

——

Draven stood at the center of the open ground of his private estate.

Quite a distance away from him were positioned twenty targets, specifically meant for archery. Beside him stood Prince, who held a rack of arrows.

A bit far from where they were, Loui, Olive, Pierre, Lucien, and Ava stood, their gaze fixed on Draven.

"Do you think something happened?" Loui asked.

Pierre shook his head. "I think so. Don never plays archery unless he is in a terrible mood. It’s as if he is letting out his frustration."

"Do you think it might possibly have something to do with Lady Avelina?" Lucien inquired.

"Huh?" Olive looked at her. "What do you mean?"

Lucien shrugged. "Nothing; I just think it could be possible they fought or something."

"Fought?" Ava crinkled her brows.

Lucien nodded. "Yes. Since he married Lady Avelina, he rarely comes to see us or even does these types of things, so for him to come today in such a horrible mood, don’t you think it’s possible?"

"I mean, it’s eleven a.m. in the morning and we are standing under this shed awake. Prince is over there, covered completely and suffocating, it’s as if we are being punished for no reason. We are supposed to be asleep by now, damnit!"

"Our situation is better, though," Olive said.

Pierre looked at him. "How do you mean?"

Olive cackled pessimistically. "Would you want to switch places with Prince?"

"You know how Don can be when he is in a bad mood. Every little thing irritates him. Now imagine if Prince fucks up over there, he sure will lose a leg or something."

"You’re right." Lucien agreed with him. "But looking at Prince, he does not seem bothered at all."

Ava nodded her head. "My brother has a similar attitude to Don, maybe that is why."

They all sighed at the same time before folding their arms to watch.

Draven unbuttoned his shirt and took it off, giving it to Prince. He glanced over at where Loui and the rest stood and wiggled his finger at Lucien, calling her over.

Lucien glanced at Ava and Pierre, who stood beside her and pointed at herself.

"M-me?" she asked.
