Chapter 146: Better?
Chapter 146: Better?
Natasha walked to the bed, sat down, and crossed her legs.
It looks like I don’t have the chance to think this through anymore. She stared at the talisman she had grabbed from her pocket.
This was the obvious best option. Waiting till the seventh night was not a good option, as Ryan could possibly find out. By then, it would be over for her.
It would be safer to use the talisman, as she does not believe that anything could go wrong. I mean, no one is aware of the talisman after all.
A wide smirk emerged on her face, and she hid the talisman in her drawer. Tomorrow morning, she will carry out the deed.
——
Early the next morning.
AH!!!
Avelina’s scream reverberated, causing Santino, who stood outside the door, to immediately rush inside.
"My lady! What’s wrong?" He looked over at the table.
Avelina sat staring at her trembling arms. Without hesitating, Santino dashed over to her. He looked at her arms, only for his eyes to dilate in shock and horror.
Her arms were covered in bite marks. It was as though she had gotten bitten by something several times.
Avelina slowly raised her head to look at Santino. "M-my hands..." She was breathing in a way that made it seem as though she had forgotten how to breathe.
Santino immediately grabbed her hands.
"My lady, calm down, okay? Please take deep breaths," he said to her.
But Avelina was just staring at him. She was panicking, and he could glimpse it in her pupils.
"Do you want me to call Young Master for you? He is out, but I can call him if you want—"
"Please call him! Please!" Avelina was trembling. Her face was pale, and it looked as though she could collapse any moment from then on.
Santino frantically nodded his head.
"Alright, I will do just that, but please calm down first. Take deep breaths and exhale, okay?"
Avelina nodded and began to take continuous, deep breaths.
Santino let go of her and pulled his phone out to call Draven. The phone rang and was luckily answered instantly.
[Is there a problem, San—]
"Young master, can you make it home right now?" Santino asked.
[No, not now. I’m having a meeting with workers. I did tell you that before I left. Why? Is something wrong?]
Santino replied, "Yes. My lady is not in very good condition. Something is wrong with her, and—"
[Stay with her; I will be right there!] The call was hung up afterward.
Santino looked at Avelina.
"My lady, stay calm, okay? He is coming back, so please wait for him."
Avelina vigorously nodded her head. She could not seem to take her eyes off her arms.
Ten minutes...twenty minutes...
The door slammed open. Draven rushed in, looking as though he had moved at a pace he had never done before.
Avelina lifted her head, and the moment their eyes met, Draven hurried towards her.
"Avelina! What’s wrong with you? Are you okay?" He pushed Santino aside and gently cupped her cheeks in his palms.
Avelina slowly shook her head.
"Draven...look." She raised her arms.
Draven lowered his gaze to her arms. He was silent, trying to process what was going on.
"What bit you?" he quickly queried, grabbing her arms.
Avelina shook her head, clueless. "I don’t know. I just saw it and..."
"Young master, should I call Mr. Jean? Perhaps he might have an explanation," Santino suggested.
Draven agreed without deliberation.
Mr. Jean was called, and fortunately, he answered right away.
[Hello]
"Bonjour, sir Jean," Santino greeted.
[Bonjour, Santino. Is there a problem? Why have you called?]
"His Highness—"
Draven interrupted, "Give me the phone.
Satino glanced over at him and quickly gave the phone to him.
"What is going on?" Draven questioned.
[Would you like to be a bit more specific, your highness?]
Draven took a deep breath before speaking. "Something is wrong with my wife. She has bite marks all over her arms. Fangs sort of bites!"
[Oh...]
Draven frowned. "What is going on?"
[Your Highness, those are bites from her nightmare]
"What?" Draven could not immediately grasp what he meant.
[Hmm...it’s like this. You said fangs, so let me assume it is probably a snake or something like that. You see, you have not seen that bite mark on her because she has fortunately been able to avoid getting bitten in her nightmare, but it looks like it was not the case last night]
[The bite mark means she was bitten in her nightmare. Don’t worry, it will disappear by tomorrow, but if she gets bitten again, the mark will appear, and she will get weaker and weaker. The bite affects her in reality because the nightmares are real if that makes sense]
Draven was completely helpless. He dropped the phone and looked at Avelina.
"Avelina, do you remember getting bitten in your dream?"
Avelina squinted her eyes as though pondering. She nodded her head at him. "Yes, I do."
Draven immediately shut his eyes, exhaling. He pulled Avelina into a warm hug and gently began to stroke her hair.
"It’s okay. It will disappear by tomorrow."
Avelina gave a nod while resting her head on his shoulder. Draven pulled back and looked at her face. "Is it okay if I wrap a bandage around it for you?"
Avelina shook her head. It would be better that way. Seeing the bite marks on her arms was not really nice at all.
Draven grabbed her hands and pulled her up to her feet. He sat her down on the bed, and while he had Santino get the aid box for him, he squatted down in front of Avelina and stared at her.
Avelina could not understand why he was gazing at her, so she asked, "Is something wrong?"
"No." Draven shook his head. "You just look very pale and sick. I don’t like it. You have not been eating well."
Avelina smiled pessimistically and lowered her gaze. Draven extended his hand and caressed her cheek with his thumb.
"You’ll be fine. I’ll make sure of that." His smile was not quite discernible.
"Young master." Santino had returned with the first-aid box.
Draven received it and dismissed him. He grabbed Avelina’s hands, then, carefully and gradually, he wrapped her arms in bandages.
"Better?" he asked.
