Chapter 145: What Did You Do?!

Valentine proceeded to enlighten him.

"Because of the duel they had back then," he clarified. "Avelina, a mere human, crushed her ridiculously high self-esteem. She unintentionally walked over her like sand on the ground, winning without any help. Not only that, but the incident concerning the stolen jewelry adds to it."

"You see, to her, Avelina is someone she can hurt considering she is a human, so she will not stop until she gets rid of her and attains the satisfaction she craves. Her narcissism is beyond comprehension, and I feel sorry, for it will kill her. She has failed to realize that Avelina isn’t alone."

He shook his head, a bit sympathetic. "She has yet to comprehend the sort of person my brother is. What he hates the most is when people hurt what he cares for. She does not know what resides within my brother beyond what she sees on the surface. No one except my father knows."

"I personally would not mess with it, haha."

Adam blinked his eyes, but he did not make another comment. He simply took a bow and left the room.

Valentine stretched his muscles in exhaustion and plopped into bed.

——

Ryan opened the door to his room. On the bed, Natasha sat with her legs crossed. Her expression did not look good at all.

"Natasha..." Ryan appeared confused. "Is...everything okay?"

Natasha stood up from the bed and walked over to him. "So what are you going to do now?"

"What do you mean?" Ryan frowned.

Natasha folded her arms with a mocking smirk on her lips.

"Ryan, what happened with "I need to be sure first before I act?" It didn’t work with that Bennet of a man, so what are you going to do now? Give up?"

"Natasha, listen, I understand that you are mad at me, but I did not see this coming. It wasn’t just me, everyone had their hopes for him. We were very close," Ryan said in response.

Then he added, "You do not have to worry, I will do this on my own and make sure to punish—"

Natasha raised her hand, stopping and interrupting him. "Please do not bother yourself any longer, Ryan. You have nothing more to do for me."

"What do you mean?" Ryan was confused. Why was she speaking to him in such a way?

Natasha smiled.

"I am over it. I do not need to find the culprit anymore, it’s tiring." She shrugged and walked over to sit down on the bed.

Ryan stared at her, and his eyes gradually contracted into thin lines.

Over it? Tiring? What was going on? There is no way it could be Natasha saying those words. His wife, whom he knows very well, was not the type to give up on something, especially something that upsets her.

Not just that, but her attitude was giving him a bad feeling. What was she smiling about? Why does she look so relaxed and sort of happy, as though she has achieved something? Something was wrong, and he knew it. His instincts were screaming at him.

"Natasha!" His eyes were no longer as soft as they used to be.

Natasha raised her brows at him. "What?"

"What did you do?" Ryan questioned.

Natasha’s expression fell, and she glowered.

"Meaning? Why are you asking me such a question? Do you have something to say?"

Ryan balled his hands into a tight fist and stepped toward her. He leaned in and harshly gripped her jaw.

He said, "I know you very well, Natasha. You are my wife, after all. You would never give up on this case, because I know that estate means a lot to you. Forfeiting means that you have done something behind my back, something that I don’t know of."

"You are hurting me, Rya—"

"What did you do?" Ryan questioned. His tone did not sound nice at all.

Natasha grimaced, irritated by his behavior toward her.

"Ryan, let go of me! You are hurting my—"

"Natasha, do not try me!" Ryan was glaring at her. "I pamper you, and being soft with you does not mean I am stupid! I know very well the sort of woman you are, and you reek of lies! Tell me what you did, because I am very sure that you must have done something behind my back." His tone hinted at his growing vexation.

Natasha vigorously blinked her eyes and swallowed hard. She slapped Ryan’s hand away and stood up from the bed in an attempt to leave, but Ryan gripped her by the arm.

"Natasha, do not try me!" He warned.

Natasha looked at him with teary eyes.

"What is wrong with you, Ryan? Why are you being this way with me? You know me, so what? I have told you, I did nothing, and that is the truth!"

"Why are you hurting me? Do you want to hit me? Fine, then go ahead!" She screamed at him, her shoulders rising and falling in rage.

Ryan pinched between his brows and shook his head. "Your crying will not get to me this time around, Natasha. I have no reason to get physical with you, but you will regret it if I ever find out that you actually did something behind my back."

"I may love you, but going behind my back to do something without my knowledge is one thing that I will not tolerate from you! You said you did not do anything, fine, I will believe you, however, I do hope that is the truth, or else you will not like my bad side. Do not forget that Father has his eyes on you!"

"You are blocking my access to your thoughts, good for you!" He let go of her hand and stormed out of the room.

The second the door slammed shut, Natasha angrily pushed the flower vase on the table to the floor.

"It does not matter! I will finish the job before you even find out, and even if you do, I don’t care what you will do to me. The satisfaction of having gotten rid of that wench is enough." She scoffed.
