Chapter 143: You Cannot Leave Me!

Chapter 143: You Cannot Leave Me!

Valentine smirked.

"It’s simple. Natasha is very impatient and cannot seem to wait till the seventh night, so she wants to kill your wife using a much faster method."

"Which is?" Draven was anticipating an answer from him.

"With the use of a talisman," Valentine said.

"Huh...?" Draven flickered his eyes, perplexed. "A...talisman?"

Valentine nodded. "Mhm. From what I heard during their conversation, Natasha will have to bury the talisman somewhere here in the royal mansion. At night, it will affect your wife and reduce her chances of surviving. No, it will not even lessen her chances of surviving, but it will kill her."

Draven was silent. He blinked his eyes before asking, "How...how is that...wait, I am confused. How is that supposed to save my wife?"

"Oh, well, the witch did say if she does not succeed with the talisman, the spell will be broken. It’s like when two opposites come together and create a negative reaction," Valentine replied.

Draven drew his head back.

"Are you sure about this?"

Valentine nodded. "All you have to do is remove the talisman before it starts to work and destroy it. Find it before dawn, that is, if she has buried it. I did ask Adam to watch her and find out where she is planning on burying it."

Draven let out a soft breath and rubbed his temple with the intent to calm himself down.

Valentine, who was gazing at him, could sense the change in his demeanor. Even the aura around him had gotten stronger, as though he were mad.

"Draven, are you...okay?" he asked, a bit concerned.

Draven glanced at him and stood up from the chair. "I’m fine. Thank you for the information." He began to walk away.

Valentine stared at his disappearing back and sneered.

"Natasha...you are dead. Haha, I hope you make it to heaven though. If not, I pray your soul rests in peace in a good part of hell. May the devil have mercy on you." He began to laugh, heavily amused and entertained. "Hahahhahhaah!"

...

Draven opened the door to the room.

He entered, shut the door, and turned around to see Avelina, who was seated at the table with her head bent and her forehead resting on the table.

She was dressed, so he knew the maids must have already given her a bath. He stepped toward her and squatted down beside her.

"Avelina..." As he whispered her name, he tucked her hair behind her ear. "Are you okay?"

Avelina lifted her head to look at him. Her eyes were puffy, instantly making it obvious that she had been crying.

Draven’s heart dropped to his stomach. "Avelina..."

"My whole body hurts... Draven. I feel so tired, I can’t really move. I feel like I’m going to go crazy." She slowly began to cry again.

Draven was unmoving. He had never seen her cry like that. She was in pain—not just any sort of pain. She was in deep pain.

He could feel his heart hurt at the sight of it. He did not like it! He did not like seeing her cry. Something about it always caused his heart to throb and ache.

Avelina sniffled and lifted her hand to wipe off her eyes. "Isn’t it better to die? I will get worse tomorrow, right? It will be more painful tomorrow and it’s just going to continue like—"

Draven immediately grabbed her, pulling her into his arms and hugging her. "No, please don’t say that. You cannot leave me too. You cannot leave me here alone, please."

Avelina blinked her wet lashes and rested her head on his shoulder. "It’s...painful. I don’t have any appetite either. I feel exhausted, and I feel like I might collapse anytime from now on."

Draven gently caressed her hair. He tightened his hold on her and shook his head at her.

"I know, a-a-and I am really sorry. I wish I could take the pain away from you. I wish I could bear it for you, but I do not have the power to do that. I’m sorry, it is all my fault."

Avelina laughed in a soft, almost whispering tone.

"I told you that it was not your fault, Draven. I concurred with it. It’s nobody’s fault, so stop blaming yourself. I agreed to help you after all."

"Then please don’t leave me. You need to be here, Avelina! Please...you promised!" Draven said. His hands that held onto her were shaking at this point.

Avelina frowned. She pulled away from the hug and looked at him.

"Draven, what is happening to you? Are you okay?"

She grabbed his trembling hands and stared into his eyes with deep worry.

Draven’s shoulder rose and he fell in heavy breathing. He was not saying a word but was simply kneeling on the floor, gazing at her. He snatched his hands from her and covered his face, all scrunched up.

"Draven...?" Avelina whispered his name. She gently removed his hands from his face and cupped his cheek. "Are you... are you afraid?" She knew she could not be wrong. That was definitely fear she was seeing in his eyes.

Draven slowly nodded his head at her. "Please don’t leave me too. You cannot die. You said you will try, we agreed you would. I know it’s painful, and I may not completely understand how you feel, but I am trying. I wish to comprehend and I wish to know, but... all I am aware of is that you are in pain."

"I do not know what to do, and I am figuring it out, so please... just hold on. J-just give me a little bit more time. I will save you, and I will not let you die. I promised you that I would keep you safe, but if you give up, I will not have the chance to do that. I am afraid to let you down, so please, just give me a little chance. I will save you! I really will and—"

"Draven!" Avelina interrupted him with a sadistic smile on her face.

Draven immediately went silent, his soft gaze fixed on her.
