Chapter 142: I’d Like To See My Brother
Ceicei cackled, amused.
"The last time we spoke, I told you that she has seven nights, but there is a probability that she might die due to the unbearable pain she would go through each night. Probably, my lady. I specified the probability in my words to you."
"I do not know why you have barged into my house like a mad woman. It is not my fault that your hearing is damaged. Please get out."
Natasha’s hands balled into a tight fist. It was obvious that she wanted to retaliate due to her quivering lips, but as though holding herself back, she was not uttering a word.
She smiled. "Fine! My apologies."
She turned around to leave, but Ceicei stopped her.
"Since you have troubled yourself to come all the way here, I guess I could give you some little help," Ceicei said.
Natasha glanced at her. "Help? What do you mean?"
"Are you not patient enough to wait till the seventh night?" Ceicei asked.
"No," Natasha replied without hesitation.
Ceicei smiled. "Well then, take this." She grabbed a piece of fine, flat wood with carvings and written words and gave it to her.
"Bury it in the compound soil. She will not live to glimpse tomorrow’s daylight," Ceicei explained.
Natasha gazed at the piece of flat wood and lifted her eyes to look at Ceicei. "What...is this?"
"A wooden talisman," Ceicei replied. "It’s not a good one, but a negative one."
"Oh..." Natasha appeared quite surprised. She had never heard of a talisman before, nor did she know what it was. "May I ask why you didn’t give me this right from the beginning?"
Ceicei raised her brows in disdain. "Aren’t you the one who said you want to torture her before she dies?"
"Well yes, but you could have—"
"Do be careful, though, while burying that thing. If you do not succeed with it, that human girl will survive, and the spell will be broken. Meaning, she will no longer complete the seven nights nor have to overcome her fear," Ceicei said, interrupting her.
"For an easy way, the hard way has to be broken off, and for a hard way, the easy way must be tossed aside. If you chose to use this and make her death faster, then the other way has automatically been broken. But if you choose to torture her, there is also a possibility that she may survive and you cannot use this easy way to kill her or speed up her death. It is up to you. Choose wisely." She smiled.
Natasha’s grip on the wooden talisman tightened, and she took a long, deep breath.
"Thank you..." She turned around and left the house.
She shoved the talisman into her pocket and began to stroll towards the car.
Valentine and Adam stepped out of the shadows.
"Young master, did you hear anything?" Adam inquired with furrowed brows. "I couldn’t."
"Mhm." Valentine nodded. "I did. Come, let’s return home."
They left for the car, but this time around, they did not follow Natasha. Valentine wanted to get back first.
From what he had heard, there was indeed a way to save Avelina.
"Pfft, the heavens sure are on my sister-in-law’s side." Valentine cackled to himself.
They finally arrived back at the mansion before Natasha. Adam parked the car, and Valentine stepped down.
"Adam, you know what to do, right? Find out where she is burying the talisman," he said to Adam. "I will go and see my brother. When I return, let me know so that I can dig it out."
"Yes, young master." Adam nodded.
Valentine began to proceed towards Draven’s quarter. He met Santino, who stood by the gate that led into the garden.
Santino slightly bowed to him. "May I know what brings your highness here today?"
"I’d like to see my brother," Valentine responded with a soft smile on his face.
"Allow me to let my young master know first. If he gives his permission, I shall return to you immediately and let you know," Santino said.
Valentine nodded and patiently waited for him.
Santino returned a few minutes later with a polite smile. "He permits you in, your highness."
"Thank you." Valentine walked into the garden.
He sauntered to the pavilion, where he met Draven, who was seated with his legs crossed and his head thrown back in deep thought.
He expected Avelina to be awake, but for some reason, he cannot tell, she was still unconscious. Last night was worse than the last two nights. Could that be the reason why she has yet to wake up?
"Are you okay?" Valentine asked. He has never seen Draven in such a gloomy mood. I mean, not that he is ever in a great mood, but this was just not him.
He looked a bit pale as well.
Draven glanced at him. "What do you want?"
Valentine moved over and sat down on the chair opposite him.
"Well, there is something that I think you should know. It concerns your wife. I heard she is sick."
"Yes, she is. Why?" Draven arched his brow.
"You know who is behind it, right?" Valentine’s eyes were contracted into thin lines. "Or do you not? If you don’t, then I would like to let you know that the person is Nata—"
"Natasha, I know." Draven loured.
"Oh..." Valentine blinked his eyes. "Well, that is not the main thing here. My main reason for coming is to let you know that there is a way we can save your wife without her having to survive through the remaining four nights."
This instantly piqued Draven’s interest. Quickly, he sat up straight on his chair with his intent gaze fixed on Valentine.
"What do you mean?" he questioned.
Valentine folded his arms.
"Earlier this morning, I saw Natasha leaving this house. Her body language and her constant peek from left to right told me something was off. So I followed her and found out who helped her activate that method on your wife."
"I also found out... that there is another alternative at which the spell could be broken, however, it is not as simple as that." He shook his head.
Draven frowned. "You are not getting to the point, Valentine."
