Chapter 140: Why Are You Disappointed?
Chapter 140: Why Are You Disappointed?
Draven shut the door behind him.
He looked over at the bed to see Avelina lying under the duvet. Her attention was fixed on the bedside lamp.
"Are you okay?" Draven inquired.
Avelina turned and glanced at him. She nodded her head.
Draven got into the bed beside her. "Still scared to sleep?" He gently began to brush her hair with his palm.
"Mhm..." Avelina gave a nod. "I’m trying to be tough, but Mr. Tough does not want to cooperate with me."
Draven chuckled softly at her statement, amused.
"Is that so?"
"Yes," Avelina replied.
"Well," Draven pondered. "Do you perhaps want me to hold you? I think you would fall asleep better if I did that, or... no?" He wasn’t sure.
Avelina immediately sprang into a sitting position on the bed. "Will you?" Her large eye had softened so much that it caused Draven’s heart to throb.
He immediately clutched his chest and took deep breaths, confused by what had just happened. He was sure that what he felt at that instant was very unfamiliar, as he could not recognize nor explain it.
Avelina was still staring at him. "Draven..."
Draven blinked his eyes. "Uh...sure. I did suggest it after all."
He could glimpse a wide smile slowly emerging on Avelina’s face. So adorable! He exclaimed inwardly.
"Merci!" Avelina jumped into his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck and hugging him.
Draven embraced her carefully enough not to hurt her. He asked, "Are you learning my language?"
Avelina’s lips were close to his ear, so her response came out more as a whisper. "This is as little as I know, haha."
Draven once again felt his heart thump. He could feel her hot breath fanning his neck and ears. He could not explain how it was making him feel, but the feeling was once again something he had never felt before.
Unbeknownst to him, his face gradually heated up and turned a light reddish color.
Avelina, who was still hugging him with her chin resting on his shoulder, arched her brow at the immediate notice of his reddish ear.
"Draven... Why are your ears so red?"
Draven was confused. "Red? What are you talking about?"
Avelina pulled back from the hug. She looked at his face, only for her pupils to widen and her jaw to fall.
Draven darted his eyes around, not understanding what was going on. "Why...are you staring at me like that? Is there something on my face?" He pointed at himself.
"Draven, your face is red too!" Avelina knelt on the bed.
"Huh?" Draven got even more perplexed. "I don’t understand what you—"
"Wait!" Avelina crawled to the bedside table. She grabbed the small mirror and sat on her knees in front of him. She lifted the mirror to his face so that he could glimpse himself.
"See," she said.
Draven slowly touched his nose. Bewilderment was written all over his face
He peeked at Avelina.
"What is wrong with me?" he asked.
Avelina dropped the mirror and shifted closer to him. She stared into his eyes and smiled so widely, causing her large eyes to narrow into thin lines.
She gasped. "Draven, I think you are blushing!" She giggled, one of her hands covering her mouth.
Draven drew his head back with a frown. "Blushing? What do you mean by that?"
"Well..." Avelina could not stop herself from giggling. "Are you shy? Embarrassed? What is it?"
"What are you feeling in there?" She poked his chest with her finger.
Draven clutched his chest. "I don’t know." He shook his head, baffled. "I cannot explain it, but it sort of feels like tingles. I have never felt it before."
"Oh, hmm." Avelina began to tap her lips in thought. Unable to come up with anything, other than he was probably being shy, embarrassed, or something like that, she sighed, disappointment washing over her. "I don’t really know. I can’t explain it either."
Draven tilted his head. "Why are you disappointed?"
"We can’t figure out what it is you are feeling," Avelina replied. "But you know, that is okay! You felt something new, and that is amazing because this means you are not stuck like you think! There are possibilities after all." She jumped into his arms, hugging him again.
Draven fell to the bed on his back while carefully holding onto her. "I-I guess so," he stuttered.
Avelina yawned and rested properly in his arms. She shut her sleepy eyes and gradually drifted off to sleep.
Draven, on the other hand, was simply gazing at the ceiling, still trying to process what he felt.
Slowly, time progressed.
Draven had no idea when he had slept off, but the next time he woke up, it was already 2 a.m.
Not just that, but he had woken up to Avelina, who was moving about in his arms. Her face was deep red in pain, and she was tightly biting her lips so hard that it had broken her delicate skin.
The blood trickling down her chin onto her clothing was not stopping, thus making Draven, who held her in his arms, very uncomfortable. What was going on? Why was she biting her lips like that?
Draven blinked rapidly and looked around in confusion, not sure what to do. His grip on Avelina tightened, not wanting to let go, as that would leave her tossing around. But something else was the problem. With each passing second, he could feel himself getting drawn to her blood.
He had tasted it before, so he knew exactly how fine and rich it felt to his body, therefore, this made it harder to resist.
Draven swallowed hard and immediately averted his gaze. He vigorously shook his head while still not failing to caress her hair in hope of comforting her.
He took deep breaths to calm himself down and shut his eyes, unwilling to look, however, this was not enough. The smell of her blood was all around him, and for a moment there, he felt himself about to lose his mind.
He has survived days without blood, but there was just something about hers that he could not seem to hold out against. It pulled him so badly to the extent that he was no longer able to control himself.
Draven’s eyes darkened with an intensity that he could not suppress as he watched the blood trickle down her jaw. His fangs involuntarily lengthened and itched uncontrollably, unable to resist any longer.
