Chapter 132: Aren’t You Mad At Me?

The lady nodded.

"Yes, she has always been afraid of snakes that even just a talk about it has her trembling. I do not understand why she is so afraid of them, but I recall her fainting one time at the sight of them. I have never seen her afraid of something to that extent."

"I see..." Olive stood up to his feet. "Thank you very much for the information." He turned around to leave.

"Please send my regards to her. I hope she stays safe," the woman said.

Olive glanced at her with a barely discernible smile before leaving.

....

Valentine had arrived before Olive.

He sat down on the couch and crossed his legs.

Fears? Sick? What was going on? Was something wrong with Avelina? He was very apprehensive, as he does not recall anything being wrong with her before he left.

But, come to think of it, Draven did mention that Avelina was sick during the family dinner. He just did not state what sort of sickness it was.

He can’t tell what it is, but he could feel that something was seriously wrong. He will have to go home. He needs to know!

——-

Draven threw a piece of candy into his mouth. He was waiting for Avelina, who was still with her maids.

As he chewed on the candy, his phone abruptly rang. He grabbed it and looked at the screen to see that the callee was Olive. He answered.

[Don, I’ve got something]

Draven asked, "Did you find out what her biggest fear is?"

[Yes. I visited the slave house like you told me to and asked. The lady there said that one thing she knows Lady Avelina fears a lot is snakes. She is so afraid of them that she fainted at the sight of one]

"Snakes?" Draven tilted his head.

[Yes. I am not sure if this information is right, but it’s the only thing I was able to find out]

Draven nodded. "It’s alright. Merci."

He hung up the call and raised his eyes to glimpse Avelina, who was walking towards him to the pavilion.

He watched her sit down opposite him at the table and slightly smile.

"How do you feel?"

"Hmmm..." Avelina tapped her chin in thought. "Weird. The maids just said something to me."

"The maids? What did they say?" Draven probed.

Avelina picked up her utensils to eat. "They said that I have been sick for two days now, but I don’t recall falling sick. The last thing I remember was feeling dizzy in the bathroom and collapsing to the floor. I can’t recollect anything after that."

"Do you think something is wrong with me, Draven?" She looked at him with confusion written all over her face.

Draven did not answer, but he simply sat staring intently at her.

Avelina blinked her eyes. She could not understand what was going on. "Draven, is something wrong?"

Draven abruptly extended his hand and gently patted her head before caressing her hair.

"It’s all my fault," he said. His tone was benign.

Avelina crinkled her brows. "What...is your fault?"

"Avelina, please don’t freak out, okay?" Draven was quite worried. He was afraid that he might terrify her with what he had to say.

This caused Avelina to become even more apprehensive. "Draven, what are you talking about? Why would I freak out? Did something happen?"

Draven took a deep breath and began to explain.

"Natasha did something to you."

"Natasha? To me?" Avelina batted her lashes.

Draven gave a nod. "There is a brutal method that witches use to kill. It was "La mort dans le sommeil."

"Like I wanted to tell you before, they use one’s fear to torture them in their sleep for seven nights, and on the last night, if the victim is not able to face his or her biggest fear, they will die."

"Facing one’s awful fear is one of the hardest things to do, so ninety percent of the people that it’s been used on have eventually died."

"Okay...but what does that have to do with me?" Avelina asked. She could already guess, but she was not ready to believe it or even think it may be true.

Draven took a moment before replying, "Natasha is trying to use it to kill you. The maids were right. You were not exactly sick, but you have been in a short temporary coma for two days now. Last night was your first night, and you have only six nights left. If you are not able to overcome what you fear the most, you will die."

The spoon in between Avelina’s fingers slipped and dropped into her food. "What?" She was dormant, slowly trying to process what Draven had just said to her

"I’m really sorry," Draven apologized. "I know she was going to pull something stupid, but I never thought it was going to be like this."

"THAT B*TCH!!" Avelina’s abrupt yell had Draven startled.

He vigorously blinked his eyes and stared at her rising and falling shoulders. "Avelina, are you—"

"So you’re saying she’s trying to kill me?" Avelina questioned. "I see... No wonder I couldn’t remember anything. So, that was why I collapsed."

"Avelina, calm down, okay? You might choke on your—"

"What is her problem? What have I ever done to her?" Avelina looked as though she would lose her mind any moment from then on.

Draven grabbed her hand and patted her head.

"Calm down, Avelina. You are all red from anger."

"As I should be!" Avelina scoffed.

Draven gazed at her. One could tell that something was going through his mind. "Aren’t you mad at me?"

"Huh?" Avelian furrowed her brows. "Why would I be mad at you?"

"Well, I got you into this. I shouldn’t have used you as bait in the beginning. If I hadn’t, none of this would have happened," Draven explained.

Avelina peered at him and abruptly chuckled.

"That is not your fault, Draven, hahaha. It’s not like you used me as bait without my knowledge. We discussed this, and I agreed to it, so it’s not your fault at all. You may be really good here..." She tapped her forehead. "...But you are still not some god or something, so you can’t always see everything coming. I am not mad at you but at Natasha."

"Oh..." Draven was obviously surprised. "So... you are not angry at me?"
