A Game Of Chess With A Vampire
Chapter 131: Snakes?

Chapter 131: Snakes?

Avelina was starting to get heavily confused and apprehensive.

What exactly was going on? Not only can she not understand, but she is baffled as well by Draven’s behavior. What was he talking about earlier? Why was he apologizing to her with such a guilty look on his face?

She took deep breaths and asked, "Camilla, since being sick for two days now, have I ever come out of the room?"

"No, my lady," Camilla responded, shaking her head. "Nobody has seen you, not even the old master."

"Oh..." Avelin slightly nodded her head. Now, she was more than sure that something must have happened—something Draven was trying to talk to her about in there.

She exhaled softly and smiled at Camilla. "Thank you, but I am fine now."

"That’s good to hear, my lady." Camilla beamed charmingly.

Olive zipped up his coat. He wore his gloves and grabbed his umbrella before leaving.

Valentine, who was watching him, furrowed his brows.

"Where are you going?" he probed. It was morning, and non-royal-blooded vampires couldn’t walk in the sun, so... where could he be going, even to the point of troubling himself to wear all that heavy clothing with an umbrella?

Olive replied, "There is something I must do." He left the house before Valentine could ask any further questions.

He peeked at the bright morning sky, and as soon as the sun accidentally shone on the skin above his eyes, a painful hiss fled from him.

"Shit!" he cursed and began to hurry off.

Valentine, who had opened the door, furrowed his brow. Was something wrong? He was curious.

As an individual who liked to satisfy his curiosity, he followed after Olive while making sure to keep his distance as well. If he dares get too close, Olive will surely notice him.

After twenty to thirty minutes of moving at a fast pace, Olive seemed to have arrived at his destination. He wiped off the sweat on his forehead and took a deep breath.

Valentine, who had also stopped a bit far behind him, took quick breaths. He raised his head and glanced at the building before them.

It wasn’t a massive building but was rather moderate and quite fine.

Valentine’s face scrunched. If he wasn’t wrong, this was the vampire slave house. What could Olive be doing there? Was he looking for anything? This left him even more interested.

As he watched Olive proceed into the compound, he followed after him.

Olive walked through the hallway. He stopped at the sight of a young lady who was passing through with a basket of laundry in her arms.

"Excuse me, Mademoiselle." He smiled at the lady.

The young woman halted and glanced at him. "How can I help you, Monsieur?"

"Where can I meet the owner of this place?" Olive queried.

The young miss blinked her eyes. "Owner? Oh, I don’t know who that is. I have never met him or her, but I can take you to the surveillante," she suggested.

"I see. That will be great." Olive offered a charming smile.

The young lady nodded at him. She dropped the basket on the floor and began to lead Olive down the hallway.

"May I ask what brings you here, monsieur? Are you perhaps here to buy a human?" the young lady asked.

Olive glanced at her. "Yes."

"Well, I am not sure you will be able to," the young miss said.

Olive furrowed his brows. "Why not?"

The young miss proceeded to clarify, "There are no humans left here, monsieur. They were all sold off at the last auction."

"Oh..." Olive nodded. He knew what auction she was speaking about. Lady Avelina was one of those who were sold.

"We have arrived, Monsieur." The young woman pointed at the door. "That is her office. Go in, and you will meet her."

Olive looked at the young lady. He beamed at her. "Merci beaucoup, Mademoiselle."

"Je vous en prie." The young miss smiled and turned around to walk back to her duty.

From a distance, Valentine was approaching.

Olive grabbed the handle and opened the door. He entered the cold room. At the table, a middle-aged woman sat while flipping through a textbook with focus.

Olive cleared his throat. "Excuse me, Madame."

The lady ceased what she was doing. She lifted her head and met Olive’s gaze.

"Hmm, have a seat."

Olive strolled to the table and sat down on the chair opposite her.

The woman stared at him. "If you are here to buy a human, monsieur, then I must say you are out of luck. The auction is already over, and we do not have any—"

"I am not here to buy anyone." Olive interrupted her.

The lady raised her brow at him. "If you are not here to buy a human, then... why are you here?"

Olive cleared his throat before explaining.

"My boss bought one of the humans during the auction. She is currently not well, and he would like to find out what her fear is. We believe that someone here must know or at least have an idea."

"Fears? Which of the humans? Can you describe her?" the lady inquired.

Olive nodded. "She is not very tall, petite, and has curly ginger hair. She has hazel eyes and soft freckles on her nose and cheeks."

"Oh, the red-haired one." Olive could instantly see the woman’s face soften and her eyes light up. "My sweet girl. She was my favorite and the only human girl who found a way into my heart. Poor thing, I couldn’t save her."

"How is she doing now? Is she alright?" she asked.

Olive gave a nod. "Yes, she is alright."

"That is such a relief. I have been deeply worried about her. I thought she might have died by now. Hmm, your boss must be a good man." The lady smiled.

Olive beamed in response and waited for her to answer his question.

"Well, as for her fear..." The lady began to think. "...Monsieur, I am honestly not sure, but I think it is snakes."

"Snakes?" Olive was quite surprised.
