Chapter 129: I’m Sorry...
Aedion returned to Mr. Bennet. He shook his head at him.
"I have searched, Sir Bennet, and there really is nobody else in this house except her and her children.
Mr. Bennet’s hands were balled into a tight fist. If Loui was not in that house, and if that woman was telling the truth, then where the fuck was he? He couldn’t have possibly disappeared and hid, right?
That wasn’t possible because the permission for his arrest was not announced or made public, so there was no way he could have possibly known.
"Something is not adding up, sir Bennet," Aedion said.
Mr. Bennet nodded, concurring with him. He took a deep breath to calm himself down and glanced at the lady, who looked terrified. Her children were hiding behind her.
"My apologies, Madame. I shall take my leave now," Mr. Bennet apologized and left the house.
He quickly made a phone call, ordering for the whole town to be searched. They will find Loui. Loui was his trump card, and he was not going to lose the game!
——
Seated on the sofa with his legs crossed, Draven tapped his fingers on the armrest of the sofa. He was deeply in thought.
What was he going to do? He needed to figure out a way to help Avelina. He could not afford to lose her, not after they had come this far.
A deep breath fled his nose, and he blinked his eyes at the sound of someone’s muffled tone.
He turned his head and froze at the sight of Avelina, whose face was contorted in deep fear. Her body was trembling uncontrollably, and she was letting out a piercing scream that echoed through the room.
Draven, paralyzed by the intensity of her nightmare, watched as though he were in a daze. Had it...begun? Was this it?
He shook furiously and quickly stood up from the couch. He hurried to the bed and grabbed Avelina’s hand.
"Avelina, Avelina, wake up! Please!" He attempted to wake her up, but it was not working.
Avelina was still turning from one side to another with deep terror reflecting on her face. She was gripping the bedsheet as though struggling for her life.
Afraid, Draven grabbed his phone and rushed outside.
"Santino, I need you to get the doctor," he said to Santino.
Santino shook his head at him. "It is not necessary, young master. Mr. Jean cannot do anything about it. He said she is the only one that can save herself," he explained.
"Then what should I do? Stand and watch?! She is in pain!" Draven glared at him.
Santino lowered his head.
"There is nothing we can do, young master. Anything that you may do right now will all be in vain. As much as I am troubled as well, there is really nothing that we can do. We can only hope that she can save—"
He halted speaking the moment his phone vibrated in his pocket. He grabbed it and looked at the screen to see that the person calling was Mr. Jean. This surprised Santino a bit, as he could not understand why Mr. Jean was calling. He answered.
[Monsieur, is his highness with you?]
"Yes, he is. Is there a problem?" Santino asked.
[No, of course not. There is a message I wish to relay to him. If he is, please give the phone to him. It is important]
Santino was a bit hesitant before looking at Draven, whose intent gaze was on him. "Your Highness, Mr. Jean wishes to speak to you."
Draven snatched the phone from him.
[Evening, your highness]
"What is it?" Draven was frowning. Avelina’s scream was still reverberating across the room.
[I see it has begun.] Mr. Jean’s sigh could be heard from the other side of the phone. [There is something you can do for her]
Draven was a bit confused. Didn’t he say that there was nothing they could do?
"What?" he probed.
[Her body will begin to turn cold the more this goes on, so it will do well if you could hold her and lend her your warmth. Also, your attention should be on her throughout the night.]
[She will wake up in the morning, and the next night she goes to sleep, it will happen again. This is like a cycle that will repeat itself for seven days, therefore, when she is awake, try to talk to her so she can figure out a way to get over it, please]
Draven was at a loss for words. He fluttered his eyes and immediately turned his head at the sound of Avelina’s high-pitched scream. He threw the phone at Santino and rushed back into the room.
He hurried to the bed and grabbed Avelina, who had tears dropping from her eyes.
"Avelina!" Draven quickly grabbed her hands and lifted her into his arms. He embraced her and gently began to caress her hair.
He was not sure if this would work. I mean, he was clueless and was just instinctively doing this, hoping it would at least calm her down a little bit.
If it continues like this, the whole family will definitely find out that something was wrong with her, and that was something he did not want.
He cradled Avelina in his arms and buried her face in his neck. He gave her tender pats on the head and held onto her, not wanting her to move about anymore.
"It’s okay. You will be fine," he said in a whispering tone, even though he was not sure if she would be okay.
As though Avelina could feel him and his warmth, deep breaths began to exit from her. Slowly and gradually, she calmed down in his arms, even though the deep fear could still be seen in her expression.
Draven took a breath and lowered his head to stare at her face.
"I’m sorry..." he apologized. He believed that he had been reckless, and that had caused Avelina pain. He never should have used her as bait, and he should have been more careful.
