Chapter 128: Do You Know This Man?

Santino shook his head at him.

"I cannot do that, young master. Please, you have to stay with Lady Avelina."

"I know that, but I have something important to do right now. You look after—"

"No." Santino interrupted him. "If anything begins to go wrong, I do not think that I can handle it. Please stay back, young master. If there is any errand that you may desire to run, I will do it for you."

Draven’s face crumpled. He wanted to say something to Santino, but he could not seem to do so. Anyone staring at him could tell that he was heavily stressed.

Without saying a word to Santino, he turned around and stepped back into the room. He grabbed his phone and dialed Olive’s number.

[Don] Olive answered.

"Olive, have you heard of "La mort dans le sommeil?" Draven inquired.

[Huh? La mort dans le Sommeil?]

"Yes," Draven confirmed. "You have lived with some sort of witch before, right? Surely you must know what it is."

[Mhm, I do. But why do you ask? Is everything okay, Don?]

"No. It has been used on my wife, and she is currently in a short-term coma," Draven clarified.

Olive’s silence hinted at his shock. [But who would do that?]

Draven’s expression darkened. "Natasha!"

[Huh? Lady... Natasha ?]

Draven gave a nod. "Yes. I told you that she would do something stupid, but I didn’t think she would go this far. I messed up! I should never have used Avelina as bait. I fucking messed up!"

[Don, I think you should calm down]

"I am calm, Olive," Draven said. "There is something that I want you to do for me."

[What is it?]

"I don’t know what my wife’s biggest fear is. I want information on it," Draven clarified.

Olive took a few moments before speaking. [But, Don, how am I to find that sort of information? I cannot go into the human world to procure information on her]

Draven shook his head. "No, you do not need to do that. I want you to visit the slave house she lived in before I met her. There is sure to be information on her there. Find out every bit of it, but especially what she fears the most. I need to know! I have to, or else I won’t know what to do."

[Yes, Don. But...doesn’t she have only six days left? Will I be able to...]

"Don’t fail me, Olive. I want that information in under forty-eight hours, please." Draven’s tone was softer.

[Alright. I will do my best]

Draven hung up the call. He moved over to the bed and sat down beside Avelina, who was still unconscious. He did not say anything but just sat, gazing at her.

The certain neighborhood was bustling quite a lot.

A black jeep suddenly packed. The door opened, and someone stepped down. This person was Mr. Bennet, and of course, beside him was Aedion.

"This should be fun." Mr. Bennet smirked.

He began to approach the so-called Loui’s apartment. Getting information on the house was quite easy, as he had sources that did all this for him.

Mr. Bennet came to a stop in front of the door of a well-built house. He lifted his hand and placed three light knocks on the door.

No one answered the door.

Aedion, who stood beside him, resisted the urge to cackle.

"Sir Bennet...the doorbell...um, the doorbell, i-it’s right there. You can just ring it."

Mr. Bennet arched his brow. He took a moment before turning his head to look at Aedion. "You didn’t have to tell me, Aedion. I knew, so do not be faster than your shadow, boy."

"Was I? Oh okay, sure, you saw it." Aedion looked away, not wanting to laugh.

Mr. Bennet rang the doorbell.

A few seconds later, the door opened. A woman with a baby cradled in her arm came into view.

Mr. Bennet blinked his eyes. "Bonjour...dame"

"Hi," the lady replied. "Who are you?" Her hair was quite sweaty and latching onto her forehead, instantly giving Mr. Bennet the idea that she had been doing something before he knocked on the door.

Mr. Bennet smiled. He pulled out his ID card and showed it to her. "Detective Bennet, Madame."

"Oh..." The woman frowned. "What...are you doing at my house?"

"I am here for someone." Mr. Bennet showed her Loui’s photo.

"Do you know this man?"

The woman glanced at the photo. It was a photo of the human that Loui had impersonated.

"Yes, I do," she replied.

This made Mr. Bennet smile. "Do you mind letting me in? There is a royal arrest warrant for him."

The woman vigorously blinked her eyes before saying, "I wish I could do that, but I have not seen this man for a while now. The last time I saw him was when I bought this house from him."

"What?!" Mr. Bennet’s expression instantly fell. "What do you mean by that? My sources confirmed that he lives here."

"He used to live here, sir, but not anymore. I bought this house from him, and I have never seen him since then," the woman explained.

Mr. Bennet shook his head and glanced at Aedion. "That is impossible. My source never fails or has the wrong information. This is definitely the house!"

Then he went ahead to add, "I am sorry, Madame, but under the orders of the king, I will have to search your house."

Before the woman could even retaliate, Mr. Bennet stormed into the house with Aedion. They began to search every inch of the house with the conclusion that the woman must be hiding Loui somewhere in the house. But what they were met with were two cute little toddlers and the woman who had her baby in her arms.

There was no sign of a man. He could not say that Loui may possibly be married because there was no such information sent to him. The lady didn’t have a ring on her finger either, not even a red thread. And if to assume she took it off, there has to be some sort of ring mark on her finger.
