Chapter 117: Because...Of Me?
Chapter 117: Because...Of Me?
Adam glanced at him.
"Oh, I got it in case of situations like this occurring. I know you don’t need it, but I just thought it would be a good idea if you had one."
Valentine scowled. "Why didn’t you tell me about it? You shouldn’t do things, Adam, without letting—"
"I didn’t tell you, young master, because I knew you would say no and, even worse, scold me like you are doing now." Adam beamed at him as he taped the adhesive bandage on his nose.
Valentine hissed a bit. "Easy with that. Dammit, it hurts!"
"And you wanted to rest with it?" Adam chuckled. "It’s a broken bone, your highness. Even for royal blood, it will take a day or more to heal. So please, just wear this on your nose for now and avoid touching it, okay?"
Valentine raised his brow at him. "Where did you even learn all these? Are you secretly a doctor or what?"
Adam cackled in amusement. He stood up to his feet and walked over to keep the box.
"No, your highness. But...I learned a little bit."
"Why?" Valentine inquired.
Adam turned around to look at him. "So that I could protect you and take better care of you." He smiled so widely that it left Valentine a bit stunned.
His eyes were slightly broadened. "Because...of me?" he asked.
"Yes," Adam affirmed. "It is my duty."
Valentine flickered his lashes. This was the first time he had seen Adam smile like that. They had known each other since they were little, and Adam had always been with him. He recalled him as a dull child, and never for once had he beamed in such a way. He was the son of one of the maids who had worked beside his mother.
"Young master, are you okay?" Adam was worried by his sudden silence.
Valentine blinked his eyes and cleared his throat before standing up from the chair. He took his bloody shirt off and walked over to plop down on the bed.
Adam approached him and squatted down. He grabbed his legs and took his shoes off.
"Do you not desire to lay in your coffin today, young master?" he inquired.
Valentine responded briefly. "No. I’ll just rest on the bed."
"I see." Adam took his socks off before standing up to his feet. "Rest well, young master."
Valentine nodded. "Mhm. Close the curtains for me, please."
Adam turned around and walked over to the curtain. As he was pulling them down, he couldn’t help but notice Valentine’s phone ringing all of a sudden. He frowned and left to see who the callee was.
The name on the screen was Olive.
Adam could instantly tell who it was. With a deep, agitated grimace plastered on his face, he answered the call.
[Valentine, are you okay? I am just calling to know if you got home quite—]
"Please leave his Highness alone." Adam interrupted him.
[Huh?] From Olive’s tone, one could tell that he was surprised and confused. [Who...is this]
"I am his butler. Please let his highness be. You have caused him enough trouble." Adam was frowning.
[What are you talking about? Is something wrong with Valentine?]
Adam’s eye was twitching at this point. "You are the one that made him drink so much, are you not? Well, good news! He’s hurt because of you. I hope you are happy. Please leave him alone and stay away from him. You’re a bad influence, and he will only get hurt with you around." He hung up the call.
He dropped the phone on the table and glanced at Valentine, who had fallen into a deep sleep due to exhaustion.
"This is for your sake, young master," he muttered and left the room, shutting the door.
As soon as the door was closed, Valentine opened his eyes. He sat up on the bed and stared into emptiness.
Slowly, he got off the bed and walked toward the mirror in his room. He stared at himself, and as though this huge wave of anger had overwhelmed him, he punched the mirror, shattering it into pieces.
"Why? Tell me, why? Why do I have to suffer for your mistake, old man?" he asked as though he were talking to someone.
"I am filled with anger, it feels like it could break me into pieces. I hoped...I hoped you had stopped. I hoped that you would feel even a tiny bit of remorse for what you have done to me, BUT OF COURSE, YOU DON’T!!!!"
He furiously pushed everything, including the glasses on the table off. He gripped the table and flipped it across the room, sending it flying onto the wall. "You have ruined my life! You have broken me into pieces! But you do not feel sorry, not even a little bit. Even if I were worthless, does that mean I should be used? Tell me, does it?!?!!"
"Why did you have to use me for your own gain? You could have apologized to me, but you didn’t feel even an ounce of GUILT!! I wanted you to apologize to me! AHHHHHHH!! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO FEEL? WHY IS IT MY FAULT!"
He yelled so loudly that he felt himself lose his voice for a moment. His screams turned into nothing but painful sobs.
He angrily began to punch the floor so furiously that Adam, who had rushed into the room, halted in horror at the sight of the blood splattered on the floor. He glanced around the wrecked room, unable to comprehend what had gone wrong. Wasn’t his highness fine when he left him?
"DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT!!!" Valentine shouted and began to hit his hands on the floor. The hot tears from his eyes were dropping to the cold ties.
"WHY?! JUST TELL ME WHY!!!"
"Why are you doing this to me? Did you think if I had a choice, I would have chosen to exist?" he questioned.
Adam’s chest was rising and falling in fear. This was the first time he had ever seen his young master this infuriated.
Unable to watch him hurt himself any longer, he rushed towards Valentine to hold him, but Valentine whipped his head and glared at him.
"STOP!!" he shouted at him as though he could kill him if he took a step closer to him. "DON’T YOU DARE COME ANY CLOSER TO ME!"
