Chapter 108: You Must Really Trust Her Alot!

Valentine shrugged.

"Your behavior and words."

"Meaning?" Draven questioned.

Valentine relaxed on the swing and crossed his slender legs. "We were a bit closer to each other when we were little, remember? You are extremely distant now."

"Do you know that this is the only proper conversation you and I have ever had in so many years?"

Draven did not reply.

Valentine could not make out what he was thinking. There was no expression on his face, and therefore, he could not tell if he was processing, annoyed, or maybe a bit vexed by his statement. He could only pinch his forehead.

"What was I even thinking? It’s obvious you would not talk. Ah, it is starting to get so annoying. What have I ever done to you?" he asked. He didn’t like it at all and he wanted an answer. He wanted to know why Draven became so distant.

Draven was the only one who shared a slight similarity with him, and he wanted to be close to him, but over the past few years, that seemed so impossible. In his eyes, Draven seemed like a locked room he had no keys to.

"Nothing," was Draven’s response. "You have not done anything wrong, have you?"

"Of course not," Valentine replied.

"Then leave me alone. You are sort of obnoxious, and you disturb me. I don’t like it." Draven was direct with his blunt words.

Valentine drew his head back. "Obnoxious? What do you mean by that? I annoy you?"

"Yes," Draven replied.

Valentine further probed, "How do you mean? What have I done to annoy you?"

"You talk a lot." Draven did not hesitate with his words.

Valentine’s expression fell. "You are so mean. Can’t you at least sugarcoat your words a little bit?"

Draven looked at him. "Sugar...coat my words? I do not understand." He seemed genuinely confused.

"Of course, you don’t." Valentine rolled his eyes. "To sugarcoat your words means to say something more acceptably and pleasantly than it barely is," he clarified.

"I see." Draven gave a nod. "But I am sorry because I do not see a reason why I would want to sugarcoat my words. Whatever I tell you, take it or leave it. It is up to you how you want to react to it."

Valentine crossed his arms and cackled. "I bet you sugarcoat your words for your wife."

Draven glanced at him. He thought for a moment before saying, "I do not necessarily sugarcoat my words for her, however, I do hold back when it comes to her."

"She is a human, and she has a fragile heart. I cannot afford to make her cry, at least not with my words. I do not have the desire to hurt her," he explained.

"Oh..." That was not the reply Valentine expected. "So you really do care for her."

"Of course I do," Draven affirmed. "She is my wife. It is my responsibility to take care of her."

Valentine was gazing at him with a smile on his face.

"You never fail to fascinate me with your words, Frère." He chuckled. "I have been meaning to ask. Why did you marry a human? You could have chosen a vampire and saved yourself the trouble of infuriating our father more."

Draven shrugged. "Because I wanted to. Besides, no female would be willing to marry me."

"No, brother, we both know that is a lie." Valentine shook his head at him. "Even if many won’t say yes, one would definitely agree. Not because she wants you, but to be part of the wealthy royal family."

He could instantly glimpse Draven’s face contort in disgust.

"I despise women like that," Draven said with a straight face. "They are the ones who betray you easily. I do not need those. "

Valentine raised his brow. "And your wife is the one who won’t betray you?"

"She will not." Draven nodded.

Valentine smirked. "You must really trust her a lot."

"It is not really trust as you think. I just know she won’t," Draven clarified.

Valentine exhaled deeply and stretched his muscles. "Well, I don’t really care. I like my sister-in-law. She is very interesting and I know you know that too."

Draven did not say a word.

"It feels so nice to have a proper conversation with you for once. I hope it won’t just be today. I have really missed talking to you," Valentine spoke. "I have a lot to say to you, honestly because I have been wanting to for years now."

Draven glanced at him. "If you have something to say, go ahead. Do not burden yourself."

"No," Valentine said, shaking his head. "Now is not the right time. I can wait a little bit longer till you let me in like you used to. For now, I will just try a little bit." He was beaming. "I shall take my leave now, brother."

Draven could only gaze at him. He had no intention of prying, as he believed that if Valentine wanted to speak, he would. He was not one to force words out of people when they were not willing.

Valentine stood up with a smile on his face and started to walk away. Draven did not spare him a glance. He only focused his attention on the bustling town in his sight.

...

Valentine sat down backward on the wooden chair in his room. He rested his hand on his arm and gazed at his phone as he proceeded to dial a number. The phone rang, and as soon as the callee picked it up, a smile appeared on his lips.

[Valentine, what is the meaning of this?]

Valentine asked, "What do you mean? Did I do something wrong?" The callee was Olive.

[What are you calling me for?]

"Well..." Valentine was smiling mischievously. "... I am bored, and you are the only friend I currently have. It took me a lot to pressure you into giving your number to me, so I have to call."

He could hear Olive take a deep breath from the other side of the phone.

[You are very obnoxious, Valentine]

"Ouch! That hurt!" Valentine exclaimed.

[Why? What do you mean?]
